This tea room is a British delight! The decor screams old world charm from the high backed "throne" chairs, to the pictures of the Queen, to the hats hanging all over the ceiling. The tea service and selection are delicious. We had the Windsor tea with all the trimmings. The scone was delicious and the strawberry jam was the perfect compliment. The sandwiches were traditional perfection. A slice of cake and a pastry finished our scrumptious spread. We had a pot of herbal maple spice and it was phenomenal. Service was attentive and friendly. I would recommend this tea house heartily. Happy Sipping!

There is something enjoyable about going out and having a nice teapot and beautiful cups placed before you. But then it is so disappointing to find a Twinings tea bag in the pot. I had a nice meal, but if you are a looking for a real good cup of tea, I can’t recommend.

Love this place! My girl friends and I stop here every time we go anteing in Mount Dora. Sometimes we drive over some St. Petersburg just to have have tea! We've always enjoyed the comfortable and laid back atmosphere and the food never disappoints. (Especially the scones!)

While Twinings makes some good tea, I expect more from a tea room then a tea bag dangling in a pot. As a luncheon place in Mt. Dora, the Windsor is probably a good choice with its menu variety. As a tea experience it was a disappointment. The finger sandwiches lacked enough filling to taste the flavors that had sounded lovely in description, and the grocery store bread had sat out too long. The scone was huge but without any Devonshire cream it was just a dry biscuit. The sweet portion of the tray completed the disappointing experience with some bland pastries and a slice of cake from a box. Our waitress was not attentive and having made our reservations weeks in advance, I would have expected the staff to be welcoming rather then bothered by our arrival. Sadly, as a tea room this place is a disappointment.

I was so looking forward to authentic English tea when my friend and I decided to visit this tearoom. REALLY???? Is this real English tea? Grocery store tea bags? Dry crumbly scones? Stale bread on skimpy sandwiches? Not to mention our tea came AFTER our food and our server visited our table only once in passing and never offered to refresh our tiny pots of tea. I have to say, given the reviews of this tearoom, I was sadly disappointed.

This tea room was a lovely reminder of our years living in England with it’s typical pub-like atmosphere and array of not only British teas but foods and accessories as well. See my blog post for pictures - http://herbalblessing.blogspot.com/2012/08/today-is-my-tomorrowaugust-2012.html

A friend introduced me to this restaurant about 20 yrs. ago. It's just lovely. Had lunch there on 6/11/11 and as usual, service was excellent, the tea sandwiches, cream cake and tea of my choosing very, very nice. It's a lovely place to have a leisurely meal. I love visiting this restaurant.

This is in reply to the post by Gigi. First of all this is AMERICA where we are given the Freedom of Speech and we should be able to write HONEST reviews without being attacked by Gigi or anyone else that does not agree with the comments of the reviewer. NO ONE is trying to put any owner out of business. A business will do that themselves!! And as far as the BAD REVIEWERS not having lives & are spiteful- we actually are not as lonely & bored as the reviewer that is reading all the reviews on all the tearooms to see where this person she claims has STRUCK!! I had to comment on a past comment from 'Unsatisfied'.....For all you tea lovers, this bitter and mean spirited person is going from tea room to tea room and leaving cruel posts and does not have the politeness to leave her name! As I have said in other posts on other tea room sites where she has 'struck'....she is a snob, cruel and you couldn't please them no matter what you did! Don't pay anymind to these posts! I am wondering if she is on some mission to boost someone eles' tea room or just has not other life but to ruin small business tea rooms....FYI...I do not know or am I friends of this tea room!

The Windsor has quite a bit of history and we love to visit every year when we come to Florida. Once again, we were exceptionally pleased. We came on a busy Saturday and although there was a small wait time, it was worth it! Our service was wonderful and the atmosphere quite lovely. I spoke with Paul the Owner and enjoyed learning my family was near where he grew up. The scones were wonderful! We had the salmon special and it was amazing!

This used to be really good but something has happened in the past couple of years- & it' losing it's feel. The same old furniture is dirty now & needs to be replaced or the wood on the chairs & tables needs to be seriously cleaned. we ordered the tea tray with sandwiches & scones & was only given strawberry jam for the scones-& when we asked the waitress where the devonshire cream was- she said that they told her that it did not come with it but she would give us some- which at the end of the bill we received a charge of $1.75 for less than a teaspoon full. How petty is that? We know that is the last time we will visit the Windsor since it must be going down hill!!

A group of 5 of us went to the Windsor for Afternoon Tea. The service was very good. The choices of teas or other drinks were very good. The sandwiches, scones and desserts were good, and extremely plentiful. We enjoyed the photos and memorabilia relating to the royal family scattered around the wallls. However, the overall atmosphere [decor, table settings, etc.] was less elegant/pampering than we generally expect when trating ourselves to Tea.

This tea room has authentic english tea and traditional afternoon tea food. I loved the tea sandwiches and the puff pastry with rasberry jam inside. The Queen Victoria sponge cake is especially yummy. You get plenty of good food. The presentation is perfect. The only downside was how noisy it is. They also serve other English style lunch foods. Overall, I would probably go back for the tea and the food.

The Windsor has become a tradition for us around the time of the Christmas Lighting. We have been to the Windsor 4 times out of the last five years and the food and service has been impeccable. The Cottage Pie is to kill for...especially with a good hard apple cider!

I was in a party of 6 meeting for tea and lunch, each of us from a different part of Florida. We accidentally met on the day Mt. Dora was having a large antique street fair, and were surprised to get a decent parking spot after driving around a bit, and had no longer than a half hour wait to be seated in this fine tea room. Our food was excellent, 4 of us ordered the 'special'- chicken breast topped with apples and melted cheese on toast. Everyone raved over how good it was. The other 2 orders looked very good as well. I was the only one having hot tea, served in a proper teapot with a proper teacup and a cozy. My only 'complaint' was that while there was a large tea flavor selection, there weren't more 'exotics' and other brands offered. The Florida orange cake was pure heaven, and the berry and 'maid of honour' desserts were delicious as well, served warm. One girl ordered the chocolate cake but said it wasn't as good as a different chocolate dessert she had previously ordered and was no longer available.

The service was excellent, considering how busy they were this particular day, and a crying child was quickly soothed by the hostess. We were not rushed to finish our meals, and we were happily accommodated when we asked for separate checks. This was my first tea room visit, and it was a real treat! Please, those who give this place a bad review, try it again, and if you still feel it isn't good, then perhaps you need to examine yourselves.

The Windsor Rose is a beautiful room. The tea sandwiches and scones were delicious. The tea was hot and tasty. I loved the presentation. I would suggest that the pastry portion of the tea be upgraded or revamped-we were served 2 mini-danish (cinnamon and cheese) and sponge cake that was filled with cream and jam-too much like the scone and fixings-The server was attentive. Overall-a wonderful experience-we will be back!

Every year my mother takes me to this location for my birthday. Why? Because it is consistently tasty, pleasant, and a haven away from the ordinary and everyday. It transports you back to a different time when life wasn't so harried and what better way to celebrate a birthday than to go to a place where time slows down just a bit. Enjoy!

If I could come to the Windsor Rose everyday for afternoon tea I would! The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are always very curtious. I am on the search for a tea room just as good, having moved from Florida a couple of months ago, but I have a feeling I may be out of luck. I believe it is the Queen Elizabeth I like to get off of the menu. It includes a variety of tea sandwiches, pastry, scones, and cakes. Give it a try! This tea room is one of my finest memories of my time in Florida. Thank you for all that you do!

My family and I have visited the Windsor Rose several times over the years and each time we visit, we are delighted as to the lovely food presented! I visited again today and ordered the Cornish Pasty--absolutely delicious! The Cottage Pie, Ploughman's Lunch, Quiches...all wonderful; I've tried them all! The ambiance is lovely...the service is just fine--friendly and courteous waitstaff. In response to the poster named Holly, I do understand about the waitress who did not come back after serving your food (as I have experienced); however, I do not take offense. Having worked in management in the food service industry, I do not condone it, but I DO understand when the place starts getting busy!! There's only so many ladies there to cover the many tables! I go with a positive mindset, am NOT looking to find fault with everything (and the SCONES ARE DELICIOUS!), and understand things happen and do not take it personally. I've visited several tearooms in the area as I live in Orlando (notably in Sanford, FL and Celebration, FL) and CONTINUALLY RETURN to the lovely Windsor Rose!

My daughter and I visited 8/9/2008 while we were on our yearly road trip we have visited many tea rooms and this has to be the absolute worst one we have ever visited. The service was not good the waitress took our order left it and never returned not even to leave the check. And I guess she was embarassed to return because the scones she service were like 2 day old biscuits with fruit. This is not any kind of attack on this tea room I was angry when I left but they never knew a thing and even if they did I dont think they would have cared. This was our first stop on this road trip and it will be the last time we ever visit this tea room again. I am not quite sure what the problem was because the place looked to be a very nice place I guess our waitress was having a bad day or that she didnt like the fact that at lunch time all we wanted was tea and scones, I guess that was my Visit here at your own risk it looks like it is the luck of the draw.

My husband and I had tea here on our anniversary in February. Everything was fabulous, and I have been trying to make the egg salad that was on one of the sandwiches! Since we live in Brandon, we aren't able to just pop in, but anytime we are even close, we will definitely take a worth while detour to have some more of the wonderful scones and sandwiches we were served last time!

Located in the older part of Mt. Dora with both street and free lot parking. Beautiful old English interior.

Great presentation. The first most perfect pot of tea i have had to date. Great sandwiches, scones and sweets. The sponge cake was a treat.

This was a fine while i was on vacation. I would (and have) told

everyone about it. I have now been twice while down here for convention. The first on my own and the second with family and cake friends. It was perfect both times.

Go and enjoy and when you are done walk around the rest of the downtown Mt. Dora area it is also very nice.

I'm not sure what's going on in Mt. Dora but it is unpleasant and unfortunate. Instead of using this website for the intended purpose of providing reviews about the tea experience, the caddy females of Mt. Dora have used it to lodge personal insults. I frequent tea rooms in many states and have found Florida to be the only state to abuse the teamap website in this manner. I have visited the Windsor Rose five times and have always had a pleasant experience, outstanding food and excellent service. Who checks the public records when visiting tea rooms? I am a corporate paralegal and I do not visit sunbiz.org before having tea. Keep the reviews in line with the intended purpose of this website - or tea rooms will start removing their names from this site (like Sherlock's did).

I'd like to add to Patty Wood's comment. Its a shame how people make nasty and rude comments about the Tea Rooms in Central Florida. The Windor Rose just as others is a very fine establishment! Great staff and owners. Each tea room in Central Florida offer a different touch. What I find interesting is that customers always find a way to complain about the food and prices of small biz owners, but have not problem or complaints with the food and prices for Afternoon tea at Disney and Peabody hotels....Windor Rose thank you and keep up the great service you offer!

My family and I have been to the Windsor Rose on many occasions while visiting Mt. Dora. We visited quite a few tea rooms in Florida before opening our second tea room in October. The food here has always been delicious and the service outstanding. Sue, the owner was always very friendly and took the time to walk all the tables and talk with all the guests. If you want tasty, filling food in a relaxing atmosphere, then this is the tea room for you. I realize that each review on this site is according to customer experience on that day, and some days are better than others, but to insult the owner's appearance the way that Madisson did is, in my opinion, totally tasteless and rude.

I have found the Windsor Rose tea room to be quite simply, 'English', and not as some expect, English with a twist of American. Some of the comments made by other's are quite bizarre, ie, I looked in the tea pot and saw tea bags, hmmm, strange that, maybe you shouls have gone one step further and looked inside the bag, what do you think you would have found?!.

My first time at the Windsor Rose was several years ago when I was just a boy that had gone with his mother and grandmother to the Windsor Rose. I thought the idea of a man being in an english tea room to be a bit well.... un-manly. But I was taken in by their rich pasties and their fine teas. I haven't been in nearly 5 years now, but the Windsor Rose is one of my fondest childhood memories. Thanks to this website I have found its previously forgotten location and I plan on paying a long-awaited visit there this Friday. I do hope that the reviews here are a bit exaggerated, because I don't know what I would do if the Windsor Rose has become what they say it has.

Having traveled to England on many occasion, I was very disappointed with the Windsor Rose. The servers were great, the atmosphere quaint, but the food and the owners have little to be desired. The scones tasted like a very dry bisquick biscuit. The owner told me that the pot roast was her mothers recipe and that she cooked it all day until it fell off the bone, later to be discovered it was from Sysco and microwaved in it's little plastic bag to perfection, need less to say I was disappointed. And to top that off I ordered a glass of the homemade lemonaide to discovered that it was from Publics, premade in a jug. Summary: Over priced and very dissapointing!!

We visited this quiant tearoom 6-9-07 and was having a lovely time, the food was wonderful, the service was great and then the unthinkable happened the owner Sue came to our table while we were having dessert and asked us to move, much to the horror and embarrassment of our server, so she could push the tables together for a party of six. We moved, we felt pressured by Sue to do this and this is after she had come by not a half hour before saying they never rushed anyone out the door maybe she should rethink asking people to move or not tell people she doesn't rush people unless there is a large party waiting in the wings.

What a lovely lunch experience for us! A dear friend and I enjoyed our mothers' company at the tea room as we spent a day in Mount Dora. The four of us sampled a variety of the lunch menu items including soup, salad, tea sandwiches, quiche, lemon curd, and refreshing raspberry tea. We thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable, charming atmosphere as well as the food and service. The sandwiches that we were unable to finish at lunch were boxed, and they offered to save it for us in their refrigerator so we could shop and return for them later. I've visited this tea room a half dozen times or so now, and I've never been disappointed. DO try the lemon curd!

However, the last time I visted Sue had left for the day and the scone was cold and dry! She needs to make sure that the good food and friendly atmosphere are always in place even when she is away. I had toasted scones when I was in London and I wish that the Windsor Rose would start doing that. A cold, dry scone is totally unappealing!

I've been to this tea room four times, always during the Mt. Dora art festivals, and I've been delighted every time. The high tea foods and various English dishes were all delicious, and I've drug 6 people with me at various times and they all enjoyed it as well. I did see a sevice improvement with the new ownership, and even though they are extremely busy during the festival she has made us feel special each time.

I agree with the previous review about Mt.Dora being a lovely town to visit, and the Windsor Rose Old English Tea Room is the perfect spot for a respite, as you visit the galleries and shops. For ten years I have been visiting the Windsor Rose English Tea Room for its excellent tea, delicious food, reasonable prices, ambiance, and service. The new management has not only kept up with all of the above but has also improved the recipes and added new teas to their selections. I had a lovely experience again, and must come back for dessert and more tea.

Mount Dora’s Windsor Rose Old English Tea Room and Restaurant

Mount Dora is one of those towns that offers all the conveniences sought after by business along with the comfort and charm that a resort community strives to achieve. Located up highway 441 (Orange Blossom Trail) just over the Lake County line from Orange County, the town is filled with interesting sites including antique shops, jewelry stores, Art Studios, and restaurants…all worth the trouble of getting there.

It’s an easy drive, about 45 minutes from Orlando, and in fact I have used the drive out to Mount Dora to establish business relationships, sealing the deal with a memorable visit to one of my favorite locations, the Windsor Rose Old English Tea Room and Restaurant on Mt. Dora’s West 4th Avenue.

Paul and Sue Goodale, the proprietors, hail from Essex in England and have owned the Windsor Rose for about a year now. They were looking for a solid business opportunity in the Mount Dora area when they discovered that this well established Tea Room was available, and as they had experience in restaurant management they jumped in and took it over. Now their decidedly English accents add to the authenticity of this British bastion in Mount Dora’s shopping district.

As you walk through the doors you feel as though you have been transported back to England and its traditional commitment to the Royals. The restaurant can accommodate 50 or so patrons comfortably in broad backed chairs at well spaced tables. Plastered walls and dark wood beams and trim mark a distinctively different atmosphere further enhanced by high ceilings and wide windows on the front and side walls, making the dining room light and airy while allowing ample wall space for hundreds of pictures, plates and plaques celebrating the Royal Family from present day back to Queen Victoria.

The Windsor Rose offers both traditional English Tea House fare, and two guests could easily order The Full English Tea for Two (under $25 with tax) as their lunch. It comes served on a two tier cake stand with cakes and biscuits along with finger sandwiches and tea, setting the stage for you to take your leisure talking and enjoying your visit. The menu also includes a variety of English standards worthy of your attention including Lunch Pies, Cornish Pastry, Salads, Quiche and an array of soups and specials offered by the House.

On this visit I enjoyed the Quiche and salad, and considered a Bass Ale...though as a business lunch I chose tea instead. My guest chose the Chicken and Leak Pie and couldn’t praise it enough. Each lunch totaled about ten dollars, an excellent value based on quality, atmosphere, and the friendly and efficient service provided during our visit.

As a lunchtime destination I highly recommend the Windsor Rose Old English Tea Room and Mount Dora as a place to create both business and personal memories. I have enjoyed it several times and have never found fault.

My Husband and I love this tea room. We live in Sanford and drive to Mt. Dora just to have tea here. Their tea, food, and service is excellent and you can't beat the quaint ambiance of downtown Mt. Dora. All the staff are nice and helpful. If you go, don't leave without dessert it's to die for.

I wouldn't worry about the negative comment from Marquerte. She's to busy bashing all the tea rooms in Central Florida. I found the Windsor to be very warming charming and the food/tea to be very excellant.

I have just been to the Windsor Rose Tea Room with my sister. I would like to thank the English owners for providing a proper cup of tea in a beautiful china cup, (not a disgusting mug) with the largest and most delightful carrot cake I have ever eaten. My Sister had the home baked scones with fresh cream and jam....delicious.

Please note that all negative reviews are always followed by an extremely positive review. I find that interesting and quite revealing.

Like many others I am dismayed at some of the negative reports about this restaurant. I visted this restaurant yesterday and found the service to be excellent and the food simply wonderful. I overheard all of the other customers around me making similar complimenatry comments. This restaurant has obviously set itself up to 'An English Room in Florida' - and succeeds do so on every count. I can only assume that some of the negative comments have been made from folk who visited expecting 5* restaurant food at 1* prices - these folk would therefore always find fault! A big thank you to the owners and staff for all your hard work, superb service and excellent food. I will be back!

Yesterday was my first and LAST lunch in this tea room. The taste and quality of the food was terrible. The cottage pie was loaded with salt and tasted something like cheap dogfood. The quiche had a crust that was soggy.

When the owner was told, she gave excuses about microwaves and bacteria and was not intrested in addressing the complaint. I have visited many tearooms in England and the States and this one is not even close to the quality of most English tearooms.

Upon entering the tearoom we were greeted by no one. When seated and placed our order we asked what teas were available and we were told 'Well what do you like and I will let you know if we serve it.' Not exatly what we were asking! When we received our tea the strings and all were in our teapot and when we poured our tea the strings came out the spout. Not very attractive. The portions were VERY small!! Our server was not at all knowledgable about what she was serving. After we finished and went to the counter to pay the check no one would wait on us to take our money and we finally placed the check and the money on the counter and left without a thank you or a hope to see you again..

I have read over some of the negative reviews and I just don't know what happens when I'm not around! Really, I love this tea room and recommend it to all my friends. The tea for two was wonderful, much more than any other place I've been and everything was very tasty. They are also very accomodating to vegetarians, tea is served in a cozy and the pot was refilled without any hesitation. I felt like royalty and my friend told me there is a sword to play with in the men's bathroom!

My sister and I just came back from Mount Dora and the Windsor Rose was one of the highlights from our weekend. We had a wonderful experience there. Our server was very friendly and charming, and extremely accomodating. Someone in our party was a very picky eater, and the restaurant adapted items on their menu so that we could eat there. The chicken pot pies and Scottish pies are outstanding. We went at about 3:30 PM and did not have to wait for a table. We would have liked for them to stay open for dinner but like most places in Mount Dora, they close at 5:30 PM

This tea room seems to be an Icon in Mount Dora. It is British owned and operated so, you know they are truly authentic. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that they close at 5:30pm. If you have never experienced a tea room and you are in Mt.Dora, you must visit the Winsidor Tea room.Warning,,This place gets crowded so come early or be prepaired to wait for a table

My daughter and I make it a point to go to high tea whenever and wherever we can. Sadly, we chose to go to the Windsor Rose in Mt. Dora. The sandwiches fillings were very skimpy, they were unattractively arranged and not very flavorful. Also, the server had no idea what was in them. There was an odd number of sandwiches and dessert which was confusing. There was only 1 small cup of each of the cream and the jelly and our request for more was met with cold compliance. It was neither a fun nor a tasty experience and we would never go back.

My mother-in-law and my sisters-in-law and I took my daughter here for her 13th birthday. Although the tables are a bit small for a large party, the food was excellent with an extensive menu and the tea presentation very charming. The atmosphere of the room, with its painted beams and prints of English royalty on the walls, really makes you feel like you're in jolly old England. My mother-in-law was born and raised in England, so she knows a good high tea when she sees it! I would definitely visit again. I was very impressed.
