For nearly 15 years we have had the pleasure of serving our guests in our cozy tea cottage in Historic Downtown Dunedin and for that privilege, we thank you.
We are now venturing out to concentrate on an opportunity that focus on our catering side of the business and offerings for larger groups, who we had to turn away in the previous years. Though, I struggled with this decision for a long time and have decided it is best to expand our catering business and large group tea luncheons. We will, however, be offering two days a month, regular tea seatings for our guests who wish to have smaller seatings for individuals.
Reservations are still required and we look forward to serving you in our usual style at our new production and tea service location in the La Belle Maison Event Venue Bldg. at 461 Grant Street in Historic Downtown Dunedin. Let's chat soon!

I came to this cute little place with a few friends, to catch up during the holiday season...WOW! I had not been here before and was so impressed with the atmosphere, food and owner Ailean! We had such a good time. We wnjoyed a blackberry tea, a chocolate espresso scone that was to die for and a crab bisque that just made me want more, so I have already made another reservation! Wonderful little piece of heaven! We enjoyed ourselves so much....it was a beautiful place with all the little extras you would expect in a real tearoom. Service was good, but a little slow. I think our server looked tired from the day, but the food was scrumptious and the tea flavorful. The owner came and talked with us, she really makes the place special. A must try and we will be back!

This was my first time trying Moffat's Cup of Tea and I thought it was excellent! The waiter was very nice, the food was great, and the decor was what you would imagine a tea room would be like! :)
I would definitely go back to Moffat's.

This was my second visit to Moffitts Tea Room. The first time I visited with my granddaughter and her friend.
May 2014 I went with my sister-in-law
(for her Birthday)
Both visits were wonderful! As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted and shown to our seats in the darling tea room.
Both visits, we were welcomed and treated as old friends.
The food was delicious!
We are very fortunate to have this treat in Dunedin, FL!

My best friend hosted a tea party for my baby shower. It was a memorable experience that I will always cherish. The atmosphere, tea and the 'Victorian Tiered Tea Luncheon' was absolutely delightful! Though I am not a tea connoisseur, I would recommend Moffat's to gurus and novices alike.

The atmosphere alone is spectacular, but the food and tea, we had a blackberry vanilla, was wonderful and the service, excellent!!! Best Scones ever!!!! The chicken salad was very delicious and the homemade pimento sandwich with the fresh chopped tomato and watercress was delicious, very unique menu:) We will be back soon!

My mother, daughter and I had a wonderful experience there celebrating Mom's birthday. This was by far the best food I have had at any tea room. The scones were the best I have ever eaten in my life. The crab bisque soup was fantastic and the raspberry tea was most delicious! We had excellent service and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I am already planning my next visit! Thank you for a great time!

Things have been a little on wild side in my personal life--my husband is in the hospital. Add this to family coming in (non-refundable tickets). I wanted to do something really special for my sisters and found Moffat's Cup of Tea. Even though my reservation was last minute, we were treated beautifully. We were looking for someplace to just relax away from all the swirling. This was it. Beautifully prepared food, lovely service. Barbara and the owner/cook (sorry, your name escapes me--the jumble in my life has returned) were very kind to us. It was the right place at the right time. I will be back. Thank you!

My two sisters and I had tea today at this wonderfully charming tea room. Lovely decor amid soothing color scheme made for a calming mid-day experience. Tea was served perfectly and food service was supreme. Totally fresh and every bite so tasty. Dont' miss this one ladies (gentlemen also!).

Elegant and fabulous food served in a quaint and homey tea house was coupled with a bottomless teacup. Everything was amazing but I have to make special mention of the scones served with clotted cream. We loved being pampered by Barb and Aileen. All these ingredients added up to a perfect day out!

My daughter, granddaughter and i visited Moffat's teahouse to celebrate my birthday which falls later in the month. I've been to many tea rooms over the years and this one ranks right up there with the best for ambience, food and presentation.
I highly recommend it if you find yourself in this area of Florida.

A good friend took me here for my birthday. I highly recommend this tea house.
We started with mimosas and raspberry hot tea which was delicious. Then we had crab bisque-which was some of the best crab bisque I have ever had. Next they served an individual spinach quiche with a homemade crust to die for. Then they gave us chicken salad on a croissant with cranberries. This was my favorite. Also other tea sandwiches, scones, banana bread, chocolate covered strawberries etc. The food was more than enough. As a matter of fact we even took some home because we were so full. It was all more delicious than the next. And you could tell that everything was made fresh. The owner Ailean who came out to greet us was very personable and told us stories about her hometown. Very enjoyable lunch.
I’ve already bought a groupon so that I can take my Aunt there. I know she will love it. Please be aware that they have moved locations so the picture is not really a picture of the restaurant. It is actually behind a Scottish restaurant that is also part of the Tea House. Would highly recommend this restaurant for a girl’s lunch, brunch, baby shower, bridal shower etc. You won’t be disappointed.

** This is a must do! ** Don't let the quaint exterior fool you, because this tea service will exceed your expectations. I purchased $60 for $30 High Tea for 2 on Groupon, which was accepted without question.
Our server Barbara welcomed us with 2 mimosas and our choice of hot tea (Jasmine tea was very good!). Next was the seasonal soup (crab bisque-excellent!) and a savory mini spinach quiche. This was followed by a 3-tiered plate which included assorted tea sandwiches, the most delicious chocolate scones and banana bread and a top tier filled with chocolate covered strawberries, cream puffs and mini blackberry tarts. Everything was flavorful and yummy!
Barbara was a very attentive server and explained all the courses, ingredients and differences between tea offerings. Setting is cheerful, yet intimate and a reservation is a MUST. The owner (and chef-I believe) Ailean is a hoot and not only welcomed us guests but talked with us, as if we were old friends. When making your reservation let Ailean know if you have special dietary restrictions-and she will do her absolute best to accommodate you.
I will definitely be back and this will be a reliable go-to when family and friends visit. I highly recommend Moffat's Cup of Tea in Dunedin, FL

I love tearooms and I have visited many in several different States. I've been to bigger and more elaborate ones, but none can surpass the graciousness of the owner and server, nor the quality and quantity of the food. Not only did we receive a cup of crab bisque before the sandwiches and sweets, but also an individual quiche! Run, don't walk to Moffatt's Cup of Tea'

We were in Dunedin during Xmas week with our children who came form London and Chicago to celebrate our 40th anniversary. What a delightful afternoon we had at Moffat's Cup of Tea. The tea, soup, sandwiches and deserts were delicious. We loved our server Barbara, who had a great sense of humor, which our family very much appreciated. We will definitely return!

Moffat's Cup of Tea may be small in size, but they live up to the old addage - 'Good things come in small packages'. Our Tea Party was made more enjoyable by our knowledgeable and attentive servers Barbara and Jordan. From the homemade soup and kisch, to the bottomless pots of tea, it was evident that everything was prepared from scratch, and fresh for us that day - it was all delicious. I highly recommend Moffat's Cup of Tea. Thank you, Ailean!

Moffat's is the perfect place to celebrate a Red Hat Chapter's Anniversary. The presentation of the Apricot Melba Soup, Spinach Quiche and goodies on the tier tray were beautiful and very flavorful. The Raspberry Tea was delicious and plentiful. A nice selection of gifts and a wonderful collection of teapots create a calm and pleasant Tea Room. Miss Barbara and Miss Jordan took very good care of us and we appreciate their attentiveness. Can't wait to return.

The presentation really made our tea even more lovely with fresh flowers, and a beautifully quaint decor. Sam our server was attentive and considerate and our guests agreed the afternoon couldn't have been nicer. We feel the many extras and friendly capable staff make Moffat's the perfect choice! My mom and I had an absolutely lovely afternoon tea. The hostess, Barb, was incredibly charming and attentive. The food is prepared daily from scratch, gourmet and delicious. The blueberry scones are an old family receipe, and to-die-for awesome. The tea room is small, decorations are simple and beautiful. The shop doesn't offer a large variety but all the gifts are charming. I plan to return again and again. My Mom and I felt very appreciated. Two pinkies up to this tea room!!!

It was four weeks ago yesterday that my daughter and I went to tea at Moffat's. I've been to a number of tea rooms. This one is quite small, but very friendly, and the food was delectable. The only thing that rather surprised me was that we were not offered a choice of teas. That wasn't a problem, however, since we were both happy with the tea of the day.
What I especially appreciated was that this was my first tea after needing to eat gluten-free. My daughter had told them this when making the reservations, so Moffat's was prepared. No, I didn't get to have a scone, but what I did get to have was SO GOOD! Thank you, Moffat's, that I don't have to give up High Tea just because I need to eat gluten-free!
-
Curious consumer
I was looking for a teahouse to take my daughter, and I'm always leery of going to place where the reviews are all perfect which means that I believe the owner cook the reviews. Really what are the odds of perfect reviews week after week, 61 or so reviews and other tearooms barely have a handful on this site - little suspicious to me. Consider when you look at a more reputable place like urban spoon and all the reviews are negative except for one which is actually done by the teahouse itself.

My Aunt and I visited Moffat's recently at the new facility. Everything was great. The food, tea, atmosphere, and the pampering. We really enjoyed ourselves.

This was our first visit to this tearoom and we were very impressed. From the linens, to the china and all the delightful details, it was beautiful. The food was very good, excellent presentation, but the soup and the scones, the pastries and fruit were yummy. You deserve a stop at this tearoom:)

This is the best tearoom in Florida! My husband and I recently visited and it was the most wonderful place, a real tearoom! We are both British and have found the so called 'tearooms' in America lacking in several areas, but Moffat's is wonderful and a must for true tea lovers:) The food is so good and the the tea was always hot, as it ALWAYS should be! So happy we found this little gem:) They aslo happen to have the best scone this side of the pond!!!

Beautiful place to spend an afternoon. Yummy food, perfect tea, just lovely. Enjoyed our chat with the owner, too!
-

I visited this tearoom with some friends and was disappointed. While the tea itself was wonderful and the food was good, the service and ambiance was lacking. In order to visit the ladies room, you have to walk through the kitchen, making it less than appealing. The service was hurried and we felt that we were being rushed. I've been to other tea houses and never felt like I wasn't welcome to stay a reasonable length of time. The saving grace was the tea and food. I'm sure that the owner will respond to this and somehow blame me for my complaint, but that's ok. Probably won't be returning.
-
Joanna Cobb
Absolutely wonderful tearoom. I have been to many and this is the first time I really felt like I was in a 'tearoom' not a restaurant. The owner was witty and personable and her staff follows her lead:) Charming spot for a good cup of tea and friendly conversation. A must if you are a tea lover!

Moffat's Cup of Tea is an amazing tea room with a wonderful chef/owner, Ailean, and staff! We just returned from having a surprise birthday party for my mother-in-law and it was even more perfect than I hoped it would be! The decor, the service, and the food were all extraordinary! The guests at our party raved about how wonderful the entire experience was! We are absolutely satisfied and are happy we chose Moffat's Cup of Tea as our venue for this very special occasion. The owner is very kind and very efficient as well as the wonderful young lady who was waiting on us. I can't say enough about this Tea Room! Thank you Ailean for everything!

I went with my sister and Mother for a celebration. And we could not have been happier. The staff was very friendly and informative. The food was excellent, and our teacup was never empty. The tea room atmosphere was so inviting that we didn't want to leave. The owner/chef even came to our table to greet us. If you are anywhere in the area make sure you make reservations. The staff made sure this wasn't just tea...it was an event. We will definately be back.

Firstly, I am properly English, I moved here in 2006 so I know about afternoon tea! Ailean ALSO knows about afternoon tea and the edibles are simply delicious! Everything is clearly baked on site, and this is a feast for the eyes as well as the tummy. I have a good appetite but could not finish all the wonderfully varied offerings so I took them home to my husband who is now upset that he didn't come with us!
My greatest recommendation is that I would take visitors there AND I will be going again!
The service was also extremely attentive. My friend and I had a lovely time!

I was at this tearoom yesterday and we had a wonderful time! The table settings are beautiful, the service staff was friendly and warm and the food is exceptional, all handmade. The soup is to die for and the fresh blueberry scones are yummy. The owner and chef took time to visit with us and made sure we were well taken care of. We will definately be back as regulars:)

I'm not sure what the previous person was talking about, your new place is fabulous! The bathroom is beautiful all the way up to the chandalier:) And the staff waits on everyones wish, tea cups are ALWAYS full and the food delicious. As for calling, they answer evertime I've called. The place is charming and the owner an absolute treat. And it is not a restaurant, maybe that is your mistake, it is a tearoom and a perfect one at that!
-
Laura E
Service in the resturant was okay. The room was a bit crowded, bathroom was dirty, no soap. Calling for reservations is a hassle. They NEVER answer the phone, it takes days for them to call you back, then when I called to confirm, I found they had the date of the reservation wrong! Then, on our 2nd visit, when I called to cancel, the owner called me back to chastise me (for cancelling with 4 days notice) because they had 'held our table' for two weeks. Ridiculous.

I attended a gals lunch here last week and was very impressed at the entire place. The gift shop and a huge assortment of teas, china cups, scottie items and shabby chic accents. The tearoom is elegant, but cozy and warm:) The food was exceptional! The soup was wonderful and the fresh blueberry scones were lucious. I really think if you enjoy tea you should visit soon!

My sister and I took our mother there on 5/7/11 in celebration of Mothers Day. The whole experience was horrible. It stated with not being allowed to choose our own tea. Rather the owner chooses for you. If a quest wishes to a refill one must wait for the waitress, as quest are not provided with they own teapot. During dessert my mother found a piece of bone china in bedded in her dessert. When I reported this to the waitress she brought it to the attention of the, who failed to come to our table and apologize personally. I would not recommend this tea house to anyone. Save your money.

Our visit to Dunedin this March was a chance to enjoy once more the company of our hostess, Aileen, and her lovely daughter who served us this time. Our first visit ever was in March 2010 and we knew we'd want to go back each year. The tomato bisque, as so many have mentioned, is wonderful, and the sandwiches and sweets offered never fail to please. And no matter what the iced tea afficionados say, a cup of hot tea is the best beverage to cool you off in the summer time! You'll never fail to get an excellent, refreshing cup at Moffat's.
See you in 2012, God willing,
Violet and Alex Kravitz

Took my daughter to her very first tea time with her very own Nana and had the best time ever. Excellent food. She loved the tomato bisque soup (mommy did too). Did I mention Katherine is only 10 months old?? Mommy loved the scones & clotted cream, the cucumber dill sandwiches & the chicken salad on croissant. We had a wonderful time chatting with ladies at the other table who were visiting all the way from Toronto. The hostess was lovely, cheerful & informative. Aileen knew that my mom can't have nuts so she prepared a cucumber croissant in place of the chicken salad for her. Wonderfully attentive to details and cooperative to peoples special dietary needs. Can't thank Aileen enough for making it a lovely day.

Shirley Neylin
We had the most beautiful shower at this tearoom.
Gorgeous flowers, tulle on all the chairs, rose petals, it was all so delicate and pretty. Perfect food and service. My daughter was thrilled. You can't know how happy you made me. Many thanks to all the staff!

'Moffat's Cup of Tea' is such a jem in the Dunedin area. When we was visiting my husband's family last year I had the luck to bring a dear friend to celebrate the life of my English Mum who had passed away. Joy and I passed a lovely afternoon having tea and getting to know Ailean Lyttle, the remarkable lady behind the delightful tearoom with pastel colours, pretty china and facinating collections all around. I meant to come home and write a glowing review but life got in the way.
A year has passed and my father is now gone and we are back visiting Fl. My husband and I had tea today at Moffat's in honour of Mum's passing 3 years ago yesterday and I was delighted that everything is better than ever. Libby served a delicious crab bisque to start. We then enjoyed the tiered cake stand of egg salad, cucumber and chicken salad sandwiches, banana bread and strawberry scones with homemade special cream, and ended with tiramisu squares, chocolate brownie with fruit, a peanut butter delight and petite choix. All of these served with a wonderful strawberry blend tea. The milk was served from a fun cat milk jug!
Libby was so attentive, we couldn't have had better service. My only sadness was that I didn't get to chat with Aileen and hear more wonderful stories about her Mum and her heritage. But I understand she is busy with a new venture, The Gaelic Dish Restaurant, that she hopes to have open by Mother's Day. I wish her much success and can't wait to try it's fare.
This really is the most charming and welcoming tearoom, like sharing a good chat and smile with a friend in their home. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
-

My friend and I had a wonderful experience at Moffat's last February but this year what a disappointment. We had reservations and when we got there no one was there. We waited and waited but no one showed up. We tried calling but to no avail. This is not the way to run a business. I hope no one else has this experience with Moffat's. Not my favorite tea room any more.

My husband and I took two of our granddaughters, Erin and Lauren to celebrate Lauren's 6th birthday. Both girls love tea parties and Nana has a teapot collection. So we thought this would be a wonderful memory for them. Well, it was more than we could have hoped for! Both girls were just enthralled with all the teapots on display and the wonderful food! There favorite was the children's tea. They had 3 pots and loved it. I can't thank you enough! This was one time the image of how I wanted it to be became a reality! Patty Fitts

I consider this tearoom a golden find by my daughter. The cute and calming decor was wonderful. Tea kept flowing and was complimented by the food that was served. The 3 of us had an outstanding time and left considering Ailean (owner) a friend. It is a small, quaint building with charm and friendliness from its owner. You need to experience this teahouse! Fun for everyone.
-
Carol Hixenbaugh
My sister and I try to have tea when ever we travel. Our visit to Moffat's Cup of Tea definitely met our expectations of a quality Tea Room. Ailean served our choice of tea along with a beautiful tea luncheon. Each of the selections on the 3 tier tray was excellent. There wasn't any question that everything had been made fresh that day. We also enjoyed the tomato soup served in a tea cup as a first course. We will definitely go back to this quaint tea room in a beautiful Florida town on the Gulf of Mexico.

Can I tell you, I was at this tearoom about a month ago and had a wonderful time, but I am really excited about sharing my experience with the catering end of this lovely tea room. Tiffanie
Absolutely wonderful experience. I called very last minute to see if we could have a spot and she was so kind to squeeze us in! When we walked in their was a very active 80th (I think) birthday party going on and to say that every one was having a good time, would be an understatement! After the party left we were surrounded by soft music and we were able to take in all of the decor. The food and tea were all fantastic! I have to admit that the soup was my favorite!! GREAT JOB!
-
Alicia and friends

My bridesmaids and I had an amazing time at this tea house. I hosted a tea party as a thank you for my girls. The owner is beyond fun and friendly, and it was so much fun interacting with her.
The food is amazing. I am an incredibly picky eater, and I loved everything she put on the table. I also am not a tea drinker at all, but she had so many amazing fruit flavors, that I found two that I loved.
The place is adorable and charming, and the overall experience was wonderful.
Prices are excellent as well!!
We had an amazing time, and we cannot thank you enough!
-
Heidi
I am so lucky my friend shared this tea house with me! The experience was charming from beginning to end. My special request of raspberry tea, the delicious tomato bisque, the sandwiches and desserts all made for a relaxing afternoon. I appreciated learning that all items were made fresh that day and that in-season and local produce is used. It was a pleasure meeting the owner and being able to enjoy her hospitality. I can't wait to return!

Moffat's Cup of Tea has the perfect setting in your charming cottage that fits in so well with the Scottish traditions of Dunedin. It was a pleasure to meet you, Aileen, and we enjoyed your hospitality along with the delicious food. Starting with the tomato bisque, then the tiered plates of sandwiches and variety of sweet treats that you prepared for us was so filling that we came away with a box of leftover goodies to eat later. My mother always prescribed a good cup of tea as the remedy for anything that ailed us, and the perfectly prepared pot of tea you set out for us was just what we needed to relax. We look forward to coming back again on our next visit to Dunedin so we can enjoy the chicken salad on a croissant, the egg salad and cucumber sandwiches on homemade bread and the endless cups of hot, soul-refrshing tea!

Every February I make my way down to Florida for 6 weeks. The first place I call is Moffat's Cup of Tea. I look forward to the freshest of ingredients in every food item on the tiered server. Everything they make is wonderfully tasty with the seasonal fruits and vegetables they use. I love to try new places as I travel. I like to sample everyone's version of 'Afternoon Tea.' Through Europe, Canada and the US, Moffat's is always one of the best. The tea service at the Ritz in London is quite lovely, but the food will never compare to Moffat's. Do yourself a favor and make your own pilgrimage to Moffat's Cup of Tea. You will enjoy the charm of your entire experience, from the hostess to the atmosphere to the incredible food. I guarantee you will love it as much as I do, and be very sad when it is time to leave.

We really enjoyed our time at Moffat's. It was a calm, relaxing time. The food was all very good, but I particularly enjoyed the chicken salad sandwiches. This was the first tea we had where soup was served. The tomato bisque was very good, and now we are thinking of incorporating a soup in our teas. It was also nice to find a fellow Badger fan.
Thank you, Ailean

My sister and I are visiting Dunedin and I came upon this tearoom in my search. Just based on the Tearoom responses to reviewers, I will not go there. First, I suspect the tearoom of inputting rave reviews...this place is just too small for so many reviews. And, if the reviews are genuine, I find the proprietor extremely demeaning in her comments and just plain rude. I have tea elsewhere. Joellen

She too is a delight and very funny:) We will be back!

Wow! If you want a true tearoom experience, this is the place for you. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful table settings and the food is authentic and ever so tastey! Tea selections are perfect...best butternut squash soup I have ever had!

Delightful is the word that comes to mind to describe the luncheon my two friends and I had in September at Moffat's. The service was great and the atmosphere was very friendly. The food was superb and many of the recipes have been handed down in the owner's family. The three of us definitely plan to go back!

Nice tea room, good food. I loved the small house - and the fact that all 7 of us were alone. Staff is wonderful and very friendly. Price is a little on the high side , but that's to be expected in downtown Dunedin. I expected to have a variety of teas to try, versus just one flavor. Only thing I would caution, is to ensure you bring enough cash in case on or more of your guests does not show. If I would have known ahead of time that I needed to pay for those not showing, I would have been more prepared. Other than that, the bride to be had a wonderful time and that is all that matters.

We enjoyed an afternoon at this adorable tea house. The food was especially tasty, the scones were the best I have ever had (and most authentic, I was raised in Wales)the sanwiches and pastries wee fresh and unique. Thank you for having this establishment, you are the best!

My family and I discovered Tea Houses a few years back and have been trying to visit a different venue every time. Well, I have to say with Moffat's we are repeat offenders!! Ooooh, so yummy. We are going back for our third visit this weekend and I can't wait! I adore Downtown Dunedin and this splendid little place adds that much more to the area. The food is fantasic, I have loved every soup, scone, sandwich and dessert! I am drooling just thinking about it!Always surprises me what is on the menu and I am always left wanting more. The decor is adorable! The staff is pleasant and a joy to talk to. I definitely recommend this tea house to everyone!

The perfect spot for tea! Relaxing, refreshing and fabulous food. The owner visited our table and was a delight! She was very god at helping us choose our tea and explained the differences in the types of tea that were available. A wonderful experience was had by all.

What a charming place! I recently attended a luncheon at this tearoom and was so impressed with its cozy atmosphere and relaxing ways. The food is outstanding and the owner was so attentive. We loved the place and will be back again and again! You haven't been to a 'tearoom' until you have been here, ladies!

From the moment that my mother and I arrived for our tea luncheon to the moment we left we were treated to a tea experience that we truly enjoyed. It was wonderful and relaxing. We were enchanted by the ambiance of the little tea cottage – so cozy! The food was incredibly delicious! The Melba peach soup, the fresh baked scones, the wonderful array of tea sandwiches and the delicate sweets were beautiful and tempting. The charming owner, who never allowed our teacups to remain empty, served us. There was effort, time and thought given to our tea luncheon preparations – from the beautiful presentation of the tea service that included perfectly brewed raspberry tea (my favorite), to the artful packaging of the teatime goodies that we took home. As we left Moffat’s my mother and I knew that we had found a little treasure of a tea cottage in Dunedin, and knew that we would return to it time and time again.

What a wonderful time I had visiting your charming tea house not once but twice in two weeks. The ambiance of the lovely little cottage was only enhanced by the warmth of the tea, the special cold peach melba soup, the beautiful and delicious sandwiches, breads, and desserts on the tea server, and the hostess giving us her expertise on what was being served. I have recommended it to others after enjoying such special afternoons.

I brought my 5 year old granddaughter Kyrsten for tea today and we had a wonderful time. She has a new favorite, cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. We came home and she prepared a tea party for her dolls. she asked me for a tablecloth and those 'nice' napkins and I even found a small silver tray for her. The service and the food was excellent.

We had a very special time here for a Mother-Daughter Tea Party. The food was excellent and very fresh. Loved those freshly baked strawberry scones!

What a treasure Dunedin has with this tearoom. It is so cozy and quaint and definetly scottish in its decor and flavor. The food is wonderful, scones are perfection and the chicken salad superb. Lots of hot tea, lots of smiles and terrific service. The owner is a gem, as well and made sure ou every need was taken care of without skipping a step! A must go to by any tea lover. Thanks ladies!!

I really would be hard pressed to come up with enough adjectives to describe how much we love this place! Our second visit was last weekend and we've already made reservations for our next visit in September. My daughter and I took my vacationing Mom there in March for our first visit. It was wonderful! They were so attentive and friendly. One of our party was almost an hour late but they never gave it a second thought and kept us entertained and the tea coming until she arrived. We went again on Saturday with someone who had never been there and she cannot wait to go back. She has a huge sweet tooth and was very impressed with the blueberry tarts and lemon cakes. I loved the chicken salad (just like mine!) and the banana date bread was so moist and yummy!! By the way, we had chocolate chip scones in March and last weekend, the blueberry ones and they were perfect; done the way all scones should be! My Mom visits us at least 4 times a year and she's got her favorites to dine at each visit and Moffat's is now part of that list!

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at Moffat's Cup of Tea. The food was good and the hostess was very attentive. It was a cozy atmospheric place and I would consider visiting it again.

my friends and I had tea here this weekend. we have been to several tea rooms together. the service was fine. the food was average. we have had better. the chicken salad was fine. the scones seemed like they were stale they broke apart in many pieces. did not care for the devonshire cream it tasted like sour cream. the same creme seemed to be used in the cream puffs. the tart with blueberries was very good. however, no one cared for the lemon pastry. the atomsphere is nice. the shocking part was that we were given one bill for all of us. we have been to other tea houses and they always asked how we wanted to pay. some of us were going to pay with cash and the others had debit cards. when the server came to take our check we were told that we could only use cash or checks. how absurd! what business does not take credit cards. one of my party told the woman, who I assume was the owner, and she stated that she tells everyone they have to use cash. my friend told her that in fact she had not been told this. you should tell people your policy when they arrive before they have their tea. i don't know what people do who don't have any cash.. i guess they have to wash tea cups to pay off the debt.

My sister and I have visisted many 'tearooms' in the area and I must say, Moffat's is one of the few I would actually call a Tearomm. The focus is definately on the pleasure of having tea! The hospitality is over the top, but the food is certainly the higlight of the experience. The chicken salad is unbelievable and the scones are the best I have ever had!!! What a wonderful, inviting place to spend time. If anyone wants to spoil themselves, this is the spot.

I enjoyed my visit to the tea room so much that I suggested good friends of my parents and I go to your tea room unfortunately they did not want to go out with me.I will be back at the end of October and I am looking forward to going to with my dear friend. Thanks so much for taking the time to phone them and make arrangements for them to visit your tea room.

A friend and I took my daughter to this tearoom. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. Although the atmosphere could be charming in a whimsical sort of way, the quality of the tea was low, and the food was disappointing at best. There was no selection of teas. Teapots were not left at the tables for the guests to serve themselves, and I was annoyed by the constant interuptions to pour tea and or for the staff to talk about other parties held there and their stint on Bridezilla. The Tampa Bay area has some outstounding tea rooms, this is not one of them.

I was just on this site, reading reviews, trying to see which teahouse I'd like to go to... After reading how the owner has responded to a few customers, I am completely turned off by this teahouse! I don't like the way you have responded to the few people who said something negitively...it was just rude! I also have to suspect that the owner is pretended to be other people... On the 3 negative reviews i've seen on this page, someone right away comes jumping to your defense?? Weird. Ifyour only sign is the one posted on your picture, then I can totally see how that one lady kept missing it, espically since it's a house! That sign looks tiny! And who doesn't take credit card these days?? Esp if a meal per person cost (assuming) about $20? Not everybody carrys cash! Anyways, glad I read these reviews before I went! Owner- you shouldn't be so rude to customers!! Thats such a pet peeve of mine(which is why you won't be getting my business)
-
Response to reviewer
I apologize to the tea room owner for again responding to this last response again!
I can assure you I AM NOT THE OWNER OF THIS TEA ROOM.' While it may not have been taught in CULINERY SCHOOL' to come to the defense of other businessess because of competition....I am not close to this tea room at all and felt your review was silly. Again, if you want to drink lots of tea and do not want to wait on a server...why don't you ask for the Tea to be left on your table?
I think you have other issues apparently and to write this much over my response to you, is a bit over the top! It is an honor to pour a guest their tea...I wasn't there and if the server had a piercing or whatever, I would not especially like that or let my servers dress like that.
But please, don't imply THAT THIS IS THE OWNER OF THIS TEA ROOM because it is not!
Like I said, you have so much opinions and have been to culinery school...you really ought to open your own tea room in that area with a large sign too!
Maybe this owner has enough repeat business...maybe she can't afford another sign....maybe she wants it to look quaint instead of commercial appearing...what ever....but just get over it and move on. But don't blame the owner for this review and response as she doesn't know me or responsible for it.

In response to 'Tea Lover' on 5-4, who felt the need to write after my posting: I honestly find it very hard to believe that you have no connection to this tearoom. You say you actually own a tearoom in this area. If so, they why would you defend this tearoom? Isn’t this tearoom competition? From the few pages of reviews I have seen, it looks like this teahouse has only received good reviews and that the owner responds back to thank them. She hasn’t responded yet to my review. I’m sure it came as a shock to her to not have something perfect written about her place. (By the way, I have a feeling you are the owner of this tearoom)
“Nit picking”—was this not a teahouse review page I wrote this on? Isn’t that what reviews are for? To point out your experience? The good and the bad? I did both.
No, I had not been there before. I went once (back in Sep of 08.) I drove up and down the same road for 15 mins. I past the tearoom numerous times. It’s a house. So while, yes, I saw it, I thought it was a home, since I didn’t see a sign. From the road, the tiny sign was totally hidden by trees. Not a smart move for a business.
“Its an honor to have your tea poured” Why is that? Please explain how it is an “honor” to have my tea poured by a teenager dressed in jeans (and I believe I remember her having some sort of weird body piercing—I think I remember it was a nose ring…) I'd so love to know where the 'honor' in that is!
When I go to a tea house, I want to drink lots of tea. When I “have the honor to have my tea poured” that means that I cannot drink as much tea as I would like because I have to wait around for it. The thing that is so nice, relaxing and enjoyable about a teahouse, is the once the food and tea has been served, you are left alone. Unlike a restaurant, you can have private time to relax and chat without being bothered. But when you are anxiously sitting around, waiting for more tea and are constantly bothered by a server pouring you tea and serving you sugar, it really takes away the “teahouse” feel to it. It was defiantly the least relaxing teahouse visit I’ve experienced.
I have been to almost every teahouse in the Tampa Bay area (so probably yours too! If you actually are the owner of another teahouse). This and the one in Hyde Park were the only ones that took the tea away. All others either had a candle teapot burner or just left it there. The tea is so boiling hot when it’s served! I’ve never had cold tea from a pot that was just left at the table, at a teahouse.
I know tea leaves are expensive. I buy my tea from Teavana. I’m not stupid. But I do know that you can reuse the same tea leaves for a few pots. And I do know that some, if not all, of the teahouses in this area do that. That is why I pointed out the fact that you can just refill the pot with hot water..
While 2 bowls of sugar for 2 people does sounds like a lot. So what? You didn't metion how long they were there or how much tea they drank. If they were there for hours and drink numerous pots, whats the problem if thats how much it takes to make each cup of tea to their liking. The few costumers who do that will not throw you out of business. To each there own---some people like their tea very sweet, while others, bitter.
I went to culinary school. I’ve worked in a restaurant before. I’ve worked for a caterer. I know all about the difficulty of preparing and serving food. So, except for me actually owning a restaurant/teahouse, I’ve “walked in their shoes.” Notice, I did not complain about the food. I said it was delicious! It was just the teapots and sugar I wrote negatively about. For me, it took away the “teahouse” feel. It felt more like a restaurant than the teahouses I’ve been use to going to. I know that all businesses, small and large, struggle. And I am in NO way hoping they go out of business. (On a side note, The best teahouse I’ve been to was the Main Street Tea House in Safety Harbor . The original owners ended up selling it, then the quality of the food when down, the started having male servers, they changed some recipes, and they eventually went out of business. I was SOOOO upset when I heard that!)
So again, “Nit picking”??— I was writing my experience, my opinion on this review page. Again, Isn’t that what reviews are for? So sorry it upset you.
Anyways, if you are the owner of this teahouse, I'm not writing to bring you down. I'd like to see you succeed, which is why I'm being honest about a few aspects of my visit that I feel could be improved. I'm a big fan of teahouses and I'd like to see you do well. Don't worry about skimping out on a dollar's worth of sugar if it risks customer satisfaction. A more comfortable environment will surely bring repeat business and make up your profit margin in no time. Also, a more clearly marked location will likely bring you more business from the locals who have not yet experienced the joys of a tea house. That is why large companies spend MILLIONS of dollars per year for billboards that people only see from the corner of their eye. The fact is, it works. You don't need an expensive billboard, but it wouldn't break the bank to have a larger and more visible sign.
If you are the owner of another teahouse, I don’t understand why you’d jump to the defensive of another teahouse---that was defiantly not something they taught us to do in culinary school! Lol.
Question to the owner: Do you mind telling us why don’t you leave the teapots and sugar on the table?
Now that I see your resonse to TeaLover--I find it very rude and ridiculous that you only expect to have people who truly understand tea write on here. What makes you think I don't understand tea and teahouses?? Because I didn't write a wonderful review? How rude and disrespectful of you! It was you, after all, who asked me to write a review on this site as I waa leaving! (bit you in the butt, huh?! lol!)

I took my Mom and her guest to this tearoom for the Mother's Day Tea yesterday, and I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed ourselves. The food was fabulous and the Crab Bisque soup, THE BEST! The owner was charming and made us feel right at home. Keep it going ladies you are a jewel in Dunedin!

Responging the the Sherry who wrote the previous post. I frequent tea rooms frequently and why would you critisize a tea room when YOU WERE GIVEN A SPECIFIC TIME AND THEN EXPECTED THEM TO SEAT YOU EARLY! Just because they had an open table, doesn't mean they can seat you early. That is very selfish to expect to be seated when they are probably trying to finish with their other parties and this is a busy time. I know their food is not premade and very delicious. Quit critisizing when you probably couldn't do have the work.

While this was my first time at this tea house, it is not my first time to any tea house. I will not be going back to this one as my experience was less than satisfying. It is very very small and the only window air conditioner in the room kept going off as the Circuit Breaker kept tripping--thus making for an uncomfortable experience. Also, they brought out the 3 tier tray with dessert on it then brought out the quiche which they 'forgot'. I arrived 15 minutes early and even though 3 of their 5 tables were open, I was told I could not be sat until 1 pm--even though no one else was going to occupying those tables. It was a less then enjoyable experience. I definitely did not get what I paid for nor what their menu states for their 'most expensive' tea. Also if you use the ladies room, note that they keep all the dirty dishes in there...Think before going her.

I love tea rooms and was excited to go to a birthday party for one of my daughter's friends at this one. Many of the food items looked & tasted premade. No sugar cubes or fun things for the girls to do with the tea. They put the cupcakes out first thing...it was such a distraction for the girls (and they wouldn't give them any drinks or eats until everyone got there - hard for little ones to be so patient). A lady working there (manager/owner?) was loud & grumpy and was in the kids' faces taking pictures - weird. The story time wasn't a fun girly, tea party or princess book, but plain old boring Cat in the Hat. Pics out front came out cute, though there weren't enough hats for all the girls. Definitely wouldn't recommend. Emma's Rose in St. Pete is much better in every respect.

Tea Lover
I am responding to this post as I was reading the reviews. I have no agenda and no connection to this tea room. In fact, I have a tea room and been in the tea business for a long time. I feel that this customer needs some education in the art of taking tea. First of all, it is an honor to have your tea poured. I am sure they are not trying to 'save on water'. It is important to keep the tea hot and perhaps they want to have a servants heart and pour your tea for you and keep it hot too! We do both depending on the situation. If it is a busy time and the table is crowded, we sometimes keep the tea in a cozy on a table close by and refill cups often. There have been guests burned if the pot is left on the table, especially with children in a group. A lot of times people are so busy talking they don't watch their children and also, sometimes people have spilled the tea and can burn themselves. As far as it being 'only water'. Please....good tea leaves are very expensive by the pound. It is not just water. You mentioned she brought different kinds of sugar....have you thought she might have been bringing you something to try that was different or new? We do leave our cubes on the table, but I have had a table for 2 use 2 bowls of sugar cubes. How they would have used that much sugar along with all of the other sweet items is a mystery to me. Also, you got lost? If you have been there before, that is quite a mystery too. I have spoken to a lot of different customers who have enjoyed this tea room and I feel this is a bit nit-picking. I am sure if you had asked, they would have left it on the table. Don't ruin the tea experience by this complaining when small businesses are trying to keep their head above water. For food to be delicious, it is very expensive to buy top ingredients and the labor involved in all of it...set up, service, cooking, clean up and much more. If you go to let's say applebee's, you will spend as much or more and not have near the experience and quality of food. Food prep on tea food takes twice as long to prepare as throwing a burger on the grill or making a salad.
Don't gripe until you walk in another's shoes.

I attended a baby shower at your tea room today. It was my first time in a tea room, and my first cup of hot tea and I had a wonderful time. I had wonderful goodies also. I would like to return and purchase the cookbook.

We had a baby shower for my daughter on Saturday afternoon (10/25) and I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful it was. The attention we received was the best. The room was cozy and made us all feel as though we were in our own homes. And then the food.....WOW! Simply put...perfectly delicious with attention to detail unsurpassed. I can't even explain how good it was...you must taste it yourself to believe it. We were very, very happy with our decision to go here. It was a very special moment at a very special time that will not be forgotten.
Thank you, Aileen!!!!

I'm sure this must be a lovely place, but be warned - I just called to make a reservation for tomorrow. I was told that they were completely booked for tomorrow and Saturday, and that 'most people make a reservation 2-3 weeks in advance' in order to get in. Plan accordingly to avoid disappointment!

We had a bridal shower/tea party at Moffat's. It was simply delightful. The tea picked for the party was delicious as were all the 'goodies' that were offered. Aileen is an excellent cook and Jordan is a lovely server. I would go pack here again and again.

Recently hosted a Bridal-Tea Luncheon. The afternoon was quite entertaining. The tea house was cozy, the food wonderful. I was enjoying the special vanilla-cinnamon infused tea until one of my guest demanded the Tea be removed as she had a severe cinnamon allergy! Aileen and Jordan handled this situation with ease, along with the late and lost guests, the special requests and even the need to prepare another tea platter!(someone ate someone else's portion) I can't wait to return for another visit with a my girlfriends. Well worth the calories as the scones are to die for!Give this Tea House a visit...you will not be sorry. Thanks for a wonderful day!

Today we had the pleasure of celebrating my daughter-in-law's baby shower at Moffats Cup of Tea. We all enjoyed the lovely, old fashioned atmosphere, the soothing music, the delicious food, and the gracious service. We are all looking forward to having more celebrations at Moffats.

I so enjoyed my special 'girl' time with my granddaughter, Emma (Vermont)and her cousin, Mary(MA). We had fun getting dressed up and putting on nail polish for our tea party. Emma said it was like being in a doll house! And so calm and relaxing! A wonderful experience for the 'electronic kids' of today. I told the girls that if they were hungry after the tea party, that I would get them more food on the way home. Being hungry was not a problem! Plenty of fine food to enjoy with our wonderful tea and pink lemonade. Thank you for a memory my girls and I will never forget. I am looking forward to my next visit!

This place is enchanting! From the china to the linens to the silver to the decor...all stress was relieved after the first five minutes we entered the door. The owner is wonderful and truly knows her business or should I say her passion. EVERY detail covered!!! The food, extrordinary. The choices of teas, both flavors and types, was amazing. This is officially our spot now...the tearoom no one should miss. Thanks again for such a wonderful experience:)

We enjoyed every minute--an especially visiting with the owner. My friend Sue and I visited Moffat's yesterday. The food was excellent and more than we had expected. The tea was delicious and Aileen serving us made us feel even more special. We had a wonderful time and learned so much about Scotland's traditions of serving tea. Our first visit to Moffat's was a joy. We felt as if we were in a dear friend's home and will definitely return again. Thanks so much Ailean!

Aileen,
Thank you for the memories! Emma..aka..' Mrs. Phats', grammy and Aunt Mary 'Bubbles' and I had the most woderful time at your place. We all felt so warm and welcomed, and although we had just met, it was like coming home to an old friend.
My mother often talks about our special day out at Moffat's and ranks at it as one of her fondest memories. Does it get any better than sharing in your grand-daughters firt tea party? Thank you for all you did to make it an extra special day for all of us! Who knew that Squash soup was Emma's favorite! The food was excellent, and although I have made your chicken salad, Heinz salad cream and all, it will never be as good at yours!
Thank you also, for your support of All Children's Hospital, through your generous donation, I have found 'OUR TEA PLACE!'. We all look forward to seeing you again! Sue, Emma, Grammy, and Aunt Mary Bubbles!
P.S. I promise the pictures are coming!

I am sorry, but I have to agree with Lesley. We have been to a couple of tearooms and the service at other places are WAY better than Moffat's. I have been to Moffat's 3 times and each time I was not completely satisfied. I will not be returning to Moffat's for the same reasons Lesley will not.
-
lesley
I've been to many of the tea rooms in the Tampa Bay area and found that Moffat's service and quality was lacking. Neither the tea pot, nor the comdiments (sugar, sugar substitutes and cream) were never left on the table and we were left with empty cups for minutes at a time which seems like forever when you've just bitten into a piece of 5 day old crusty cholocate cake. It was 62 outside and even colder inside with no working heat. The scones are not authentic the cream is sour cream based (also not authentic) I notice that there were no tea bags hanging from the pots they poured with, which was curious to me especially when I found a tea in the box at Publix that shared the same name and flavor as the tea I was served at Moffats. Premium tea doesn't have a square piece of paper on a string. I would not suggest this tea house to anyone.

Moffat's Cup of Tea is just my cup of tea! This was perhaps the most enjoyable experience I have ever had at a tea room. Aileen is so accommodating, friendly, and an absolute wizard in the kitchen. The food was exquisite---and so plentiful and varied. My friend who joined me there plans on bringing her neighbors, and I can't wait to have my daughter's bridal shower at Aileen's place. I know we will all feel welcomed and will treasure this very special day.

After a first class initial visit to Moffat's Cup of Tea we took a larger group for afternoon tea, everyone without fail had a great time. The food, service and atmosphere is excellent and we look forward to many happy monthly teas. Aileen's attention to special dietary needs within our group is outstanding. Thank you.

My teacher friends and I recently visited Moffat's Tea Room for the Victorian 'High Tea' at 4 pm. We had the little front room to ourselves and our server's undivided attention. While the room was small, it had a comfortable, 'homey' feeling and was decorated with beautiful teacups and table linens. What a pleasant sight to a group of exhausted teachers at the end of a stressful day! We found the food to be excellent and our teacups were never empty. We will return again soon to this lovely little place.

This was the second time I went with our church group and this time I was very disappointed. Room was hot and tea was cold. Sandwiches were made from 'scratch', but we could all tell where each of the sweets had been purchased. Our tea group meets once a month and we have all voted to not go here again.

I took my sister from Chicago to Moffat's as a way of saying 'Thank you' for her love and support during a very difficult time in my life. We arrived about 30 minutes early and had the opportunity to look around and admire the various tea sets and decor. I felt very comfortable in both rooms and enjoyed the peaceful setting and tastefully decorated rooms. I was thoroughly enchanted with Moffat's and will be returning with others that were instrumental in helping me with my fight with cancer. The atmosphere was delightful; extremely quaint and heart warming. The food...OMG!!!! All I can say is I am glad I have my taste buds back as I truly enjoyed every morsel offered. Ailean and her wait staff were a pleasure to chat with and our tea cups were never empty! Thank you for a truly memorable afternoon. I can't wait for the ENCORE! Again, THANK YOU for a wonderful afternoon!

Cute little tea cottage. However, I was visiting my daughter, she brought me here with my friend, the atmosphere was uncomfortable because it was hot inside. And, we had to keep asking for refills on our tea. Cramped atmosphere because it is so small inside and tables are squished into a small space. Food was delicious, would like to see improvement on service and atmosphere.

Very charming and cozy. If you are more interested in food, this is the best food I have ever found in a tea room. Everything is made from scratch, and you will enjoy some of the best pastries you will ever put in your mouth. Truly an English tea experience and very well worth your time.

Moffat's is the best tearoom I have ever been to. Exactly what what a tearoom should be and have, including tea of all kinds, delicious home made food, including soup, bite size sandwiches, not to mention the selection of desserts! The ambience is intimate and very friendly. No wonder it it listed in the top 10 in Florida. Friendships will be made there, and what better place to take a girlfriend or a group. My congratulations to them. You will always leave feeling wonderful and relaxed. Try it, I promise you won't be disappointed.

I loved this place. We came here for my mother-in-law's 50th birthday. The food was awesome. the place is very quaint. My only complaint would be that the tea was never left on the table. I'm a big tea drinker and I felt like I had to wait for the server to come by to fill my cup. I would have rather have had it on the table to refill as much as I wanted to.

I had a get together with girfriends at this tearoom. We had the best time. Everything was so quaint and lovely. The tea service was superb and the food, DELICIOUS!!! The Butternut Squash soup was yummy and the chicken coissant, excellent. All the pastries were wonderful to look at and to eat. The owner, Ailean, was sweet and very friendly. She certainly made our day and WEEK!!!
This little place is a must for any tea lover. A++++

My duaghter and three of her friends, and I went to this tearoom last month, in September. I cannot put into words how extrodinary the experience was for us. We had the best of the best...service, hospitality and the best food I have enjoyed in years. Hats (and gloves) off to the owner, Ailean, and her staff. We will be back many times. An absolute 'gem' for the City of Dunedin!

My friend and I had the most delightful lunch at this charming little tea house today. Everything from the decor to the soup and dessert was absolutely wonderful. The hostess was warm and friendly, and she presented me with a special goodie for my birthday. I am planning on bringing my Red Hat Ladies for afternoon tea here soon. Thank you again Ailean.

My girlfriends and I attended Afternoon Tea at the quaint little cottage tearoom and WOW what a delight! We were overwhelmed with the cute interior and lovely linens that graced the tables, but most enjoyable was the food and the hostess. The presentation was so beautiful that we hated to dismantel the trays, but we did and enjoyed every bite from the scones to the sandwiches and fresh pastries. We will be back for more. Thanks again for a wonderful afternoon!

I brought my mother and my sister here on August 11th. It was our last outting as the three of us for awhile, since my sister is leaving for college in New Haven. I wanted us to have a special time and get memories. I did not tell my mom or sister where we were going. When we got to Moffat's Cup of Tea, we were greated by Ailean and a cozy little room full of memories and beautifully decorated tables. We were the only ones there and the time was awesome. My mother kept saying she felt like we were in a doll house having a tea party. The tea houseis beautiful and peaceful. We had a relaxing and memorable time. The food was fabulous and Ailean was wonderful. She talked and laughed with us and shared her own memories with us. We will be back often!! We LOVED this place.

Oh my, what a charming little place with a gourmet flair! I have been to several tea rooms in Florida and this one is the best! An impressive tea selection and the hostess is so good about educating her guests on the types and flavors. The food, too die for...absolutely the BEST scones I have ever eaten and the fresh fruit tarlettes, scumptious:) I was also impressed with the fruit soup for summer. the entire experience was a delight. A thoughtful and enviting spot for tea. I'll be back again and again.

The front room of this cottage-y house is set up for 'formal' afternoon tea -- floral china, linens, flowers, etc. The teas are your choice, she has a fine variety. The food is beautifully prepared and served -- and delicious, and almost too much! The room is full of interesting and decorative teatime memorabilia and flowers. We'll return.

What a treat! We had my sister-in-laws Bridal Shower here. Pure perfection down to the smallest detail, including the rose petals on the cakes. She loved it, the whole package and we didin't have to do anything. Ailean and her staff did a beautiful job...I have already booked another shower and girls luncheon...many thanks!

Absolutely CHARMING!!!! I can't say enough. Lovely atmosphere coupled with good food, marvelous tea (the house wild strawberry is divine!) all rolled up into a delightful spot with a warm and friendly owner to boot. She actually understands what 'service' means and so does her staff. A treasure in Downtown Dunedin!!
