Tea Upon Chatsworth
My husband and I visit tea rooms wherever we are and since we live not to far from San Diego we gave this a try. They were kind enough to make a last minute reservation. While the food is excellent it's not generous. We've never been to a tea room that only offered two half sandwiches and the scones were smaller than the mini-vanilla scones at Starbucks. You only get one - they were, however, one of the best I've ever had. No choice of tea - you get their tea of the day and another different one towards the end of the meal. That's a nice touch and it was good but I think some folks may like a choice. Presentation was nice but some pieces were chipped - in my book this is a big no-no. It was, however, bone china and not 'made in China' stuff - another big no-no in my book. The staff could have been friendlier - the only contact we had was when they served the food and it was brief and to the point. We noticed one lady asked a question and was totally ignored. All in all I would rate it a C+ or B- - mainly based on value. A bit more food for the price would have been a plus.
Tearoom response:
Hi Barbara. We strive to provide an A+ experience for everyone who comes to Tea-Upon-Chatsworth. However when guests arrive 1 hour prior to their sitting time, we do our best to accommodate you. Thank you for your positive comments about the quality of our food. I was wondering if you also enjoyed the savories that accompanied the sandwiches namely Baked Caprese, Roasted Green Bean Strata, and Brie & Dried Fruit Pate En Croute? We offer a varied seasonal menu & hope you can come & visit us again soon! Sincerely, Joy

Rose Garden Tea Room
This is an all-you-can-eat-buffet-style tea so ambiance is clearly lacking. It is a very noisy and congested ambiance with folks from the adjoining cafe wandering through with strollers, etc. Only two choices of tea and the scones were bite-size - several varieties of scones in the basket including a chocolate chip scone which was not expected as that would be very untraditional and more for dessert. The food was tasty but they frequently ran out of items and it took as long as 20 minutes to replenish. There are two rooms and in the back room where we got seating only one server for about 10 tables. Very noisy and 'touristy' - although the nearby Rose Garden was beautiful you can't see it from the Tea Room unless you have a window seat in the front room - it too is very crowded. For the price we paid I was very disappointed.

The AubreyRose Tea Room
By far this is the best tea I've ever had and I've been visiting tea rooms for more than 10 years. The service is wonderful, menu excellent and ambiance perfect! The only thing I would change is to serve the scone either before or after instead of after the dessert. The scone was a bit too much of a dessert for my taste and a bit sparse on the jam, curd and Devonshire cream. Next time I would go for the Queen's Tea which was a bit more money but the soup that went by our table looked wonderful! Worth every penny and will definitely be back!
