This was my go to tearoom when I lived in La Mesa. I would visit at least once every couple of weeks. When I happen to be in the area, and have time, I will visit again.

Wow! What an amazing experience! The food was amazing and the service could not have been better! My 81 year old needed the gluten free menu and she said it was excellent. The Potato Leek Soup was exceptional good. Thank you Missy for the amazing service!

I am quite a fan of afternoon tea, and have had the pleasure of visiting several tea rooms. The Aubrey Rose sets very high standards in customer service, food quality, and overall ambience. I would recommend this place for both a large party, or for a quiet afternoon treat with a good book.

This tearoom is a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds! They go the extra mile with little details that impress and make you feel special. It has a quiet, relaxing feeling. My husband & I go here when ever we are in the San Diego area.

Enjoyed a lovely birthday tea today with 3 very special friends. We had the Lady Anne tea and everything was scrumptious and beautifully presented.
Our server, Heather, was friendly and attentive. She is a delight! The Aubrey Rose tea was our favorite of the 5 kinds we tried!!! Thank You to
Lorna and Dave for truly making us feel welcome..... I even found a miniature tea set to bring home. Looking forward to my next visit!!

As always, our expectations were exceeded. My husband really enjoyed sharing the Queen Victoria Tea with me over the Christmas season. Lorna and Dave REALLY know how to turn up the 'wow-factor' for special occasions. There is a clear sense of passion for entertaining and providing a very peaceful atmosphere at The Aubrey Rose. The food is AMAZING! You will not leave hungry, the portions are generously and artfully created. The keys here are hospitality, excellence and consistency. And my favorite server/hostess is Heather. She is lovely. A+++

We love your new website!! The pictures truly tell the story of the AubreyRose...beauty, charm and elegance. You are truly 'hands down' a five star establishment. We so enjoyed our time there in December. This has been a family Christmas tradition for the last three years and each year you out do the last! The food was absolutely yummy-delicious! The excellent service made yet another wonderful memory with you all! Thank you and look forward to seeing you soon!

I am going to be visiting relatives in the San Diego area, and wanted to go to 'Tea'. Looking online, this website is gorgeous! however, it is totally unusable! No address, only a poor google map. The menu is a scroll down, with no ability to look at it all at once, etc.For those locals, it might be great, but for those visiting and trying to find just the right place to go, it does NOT come out favorably in the information department. Try for a more user friendly website, please!

I have been to this tea room on numerous occasions over the past seven years and they have always been consistently excellent in their service, the freshness and presentation of their foods, the attention to every detail and the elegant ambiance! What a wonderful experience & happy memories you have created Aubrey Rose. Thank you so much!

The sweet Fireside table shown in the picture was to be our table. Each table was special and surounded by tresures from all angles. For 2 hours we escaped to peace and perfection which brought tears to our eyes as we left our busy lives behind us. Every detail was thought of from food choice to decore and service. My favorite Teahouse closed and my standards were high. I was not disappointed.

On 08/08/09, I hosted a bridal shower at The AubreyRose Tea Room. I have been to the tea room at least a half dozen other occasions with girlfriends and was so impressed I knew this was the right location. As always, the personal attention to details, attentive servers and the wonderful menu were outstanding. The bride and the bridal party had never been to The AubreyRose and ALL were so impressed, they were excitedly discussing when they would like to come back and who they would bring with them. Words make it hard to express the classic, but whimsical atmosphere and the lengths the entire staff go to to make everyone feel at home and enjoy the entire 'tea room' experience. A HUGE thank you to Dave for helping to coordinate last minute details and charming my little girl...she can't wait to come back for another 'big girl' tea party.

By far this is the best tea I've ever had and I've been visiting tea rooms for more than 10 years. The service is wonderful, menu excellent and ambiance perfect!
The only thing I would change is to serve the scone either before or after instead of after the dessert. The scone was a bit too much of a dessert for my taste and a bit sparse on the jam, curd and Devonshire cream.
Next time I would go for the Queen's Tea which was a bit more money but the soup that went by our table looked wonderful!
Worth every penny and will definitely be back!

We just got back from an excellent first time visiting AubreyRose. This was only our second tea house experience.
The combination of sweets and savory's worked perfectly. The bread pudding was very good. The fresh scones were very fluffy and tasty. The cream and raspberry preserves were an excellent compliment.
The house tea was excellent with milk and sugar.
Our favorite thing: The savories consisting of breads and cheeses. Wonderful.
Not our favorite thing: I enjoyed the soup, but my wife didn't exactly like the consistency. Still good, I say try it for yourself.

I have been to this tea house about five times now and always compare it to others 'inbetween' my visits. We usually go for someone's birthday in the family and are never disappointed. Although one of the more expensive teas it is worth it!! Details such as fresh flowers, dollie under plates, personal service, excellent food and presentation all make it lovely & very enjoyable experience.(10+) The shop itself is darling, very Victorian and 'girly' with frills. We just love it!! Would love for Lorna to make a receipe book of her fabulous scones?

If you haven't tried this tea room, it is a must! Thank you for the absolutely superb Afternoon tea experience!! The food was sooo delicious, the service was excellent, our hot tea was steeped to perfection and the beauty of the tea room definitely carried us away to another era which we need more of today. Thank you all for such a wonderful Christmas memory! Look forward to seeing you soon and Happy New Year

We always look forward to visiting your tea room when we are in San Diego. Everywhere we've been this season we have missed the spirit of Christmas....until we came to the AubreyRose this weekend. Thank you so much for capturing the spirit of Christmas and sharing it with us all. Your hard work and excellent service has been a wonderful gift to us! Thank you again!

I went to Aubrey Rose Tea Room (ARTR) for the first time exactly one week ago. I loved it so much I returned with my daughter today. The service is exceptional. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The room itself is such a delight! I sat at the Veranda table the first time and today the Fireside seating was reserved for us. The dessert selection and portions are superior to other tea rooms. My second favorite tea room, TUC, gives you a cookie the size of a quarter. ARTR is such an enchanting place and worth every penny. The scones are warm and delicious; the tea is superb and kept warm at your table. If you enjoy tea, this place is a MUST visit! I drove over 30 miles two weeks in a row to visit this tea room – that should say something!

I would like to first preface this by saying that my friend and I visit tea rooms throughout in various counties at least once a year (for the past 10 years) and the AubreyRose is 'hands down' the best thus far. My friend and I host our own Christmas Tea (in a similar fashion as the AubreyRose) every year. I commented to my friend that it is so great to continue to be pleasantly surprised when we discover an even better tea room in our travels. The table and food presentation was beautiful, fresh, delightful and creative. We had the two sandwiches and three what some would refer as appetizer like tea sandwiches. We were having fun trying to disect the incredible flavors. The bread pudding was outstanding, and the other two desserts were very good as well. The scone was fresh, flavorable, warm and moist and the devonshire cream and lemon curd were one of the best we had. The owner is charming, inviting and so appreciative. You can tell she takes pride in everyone's enjoyment and I was very happy to share with her our delight. I only wish it was closer so I could recommend it to my local friends and family.

Aubrey Rose is a lovely Tea Room. For the most part the food is very good and our service is usually excellent. Our server this time was Heather and she was a breath of fresh air. She saw to our every need and was very cheerful and pleasant. There was a large group of us dining today and as expected the 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. Apparently this establishment calculates the gratuity on the total of the bill after the tax has been added. I questioned the owner about this practice and he explained that it was his policy to do so and there were other merchants in town that had the same policy. That raised the price for our group by several dollars. I feel that $22.95 is on the “high side of fair” for tea, even though the presentation is lovely. To artificially inflate the price without posting it on the website or noting it on the bill is disrespectful to the customer. I really liked this place and am disappointed in this policy.

On way to Los Alamitos, Ca from Phoenix we decided to go through San Diego & stop for tea at your teahouse I had heard so much about. I made reservations for the 3 of us to have the Queen Victoria tea. It was fabulous from the greeting all the way through to the end. Food & presentation by Heather was excellent. We tried 2 different teas, the asparagus soup & savories & desserts were great, my niece really enjoyed the scone. This time for us made a wonderful stop on our trip to spend time together in a wonderful surroundings & great food. Next time we are in the San Diego rest assure we will be back.

My cousin brought me here for my birthday and what a wonderful treat that was! Food was excellent, from the soup to savories to scones to dessert. The owner and waitress were very attentive and charming. They presented me with a beautiful aubrey rose for my birthday as well. The tearoom is lovely and elegant, not overdone or gaudy. They house a great selection of teapots, accessories, and home decorations. This is one of the best high teas I've been to.

The AubreyRose is such a sanctuary for me. Everything about it nurtures my feminie soul! What a respite from this hectic, harrying world. My sisters and I went there for MOTHER'S DAY and it was an absolutely lovely and memorable experience; the menu was the best ever and all the attention to details and the service made our afternoon such a joyful memory and we cherish our keepsake! I also went to their CELTIC Afternoon Tea with ELIZABETH KNIGHT! I thoroughly enjoyed the entire presentation! The Irish Soda bread with Hazelnut Cream was sooo delicious..it was all delicious and fresh! It was so exciting to meet Elizabeth Knight! What a treat! It was so fascinating to learn so much more about teatime, I didn't want her to stop(: Thank you Lorna and Dave and Staff for providing such a special place of elegance and graciousness! Leah Windsor

I believe I learned about Aubrey Rose Tea Room from an article in a publication. I have tried just about every tea room in San Diego once. Few deserve a second visit, but Aubrey Rose is a tea room I try very hard to find an excuse to visit. I have been many times and they always have something new on the menu. The food is creative and tastes great. The savories are especially good. The warm seasonal scones are also a treat. The presentation is beautiful with fresh flowers at every course. The tea selection is also varied. My very favorite part of having tea at Aubrey Rose is that each teapot has its very own warmer. Nothing worse that lukewarm tea. Always a pleasure. My favorite place for tea.

Excellent tea party!! My daughter had a tea party for her 4th birthday and it turned out great. Everyone was impressed with the different tea flavors, food, and the display with fresh flowers, the beautiful cups, pots, decor everything was beautiful and very dainty. There aren't many tea rooms in San Diego this by far the best one.

I am from Green Bay and was at the Aubrey Rose on May 1st, 2008, with my daughters. I had never been to a tea room before and I am still raving about it! What a calm, ralaxing way to have fun with my girls and eat the most scrumptious food! Perhaps the gal who is looking for a sausage roll would find one in Green Bay; they are called brats!

My four year-old son and I met some friends for high tea today. It was our first tea together. Warmly greeted, we waited for our friends to arrive and enjoyed peeking at all of the beautiful china and antiques. We were seated at a very compfortable table, and my son had a special place just for him with perfectly sized china and utensils. My food and tea were excellent, by the way we tried about 6 or 7 teas! I loved the attention to detail, garnishes and all. A special thanks to Pat and Lourna for your graciousness and pampering! Thank you for making us feel welcome and at home!

The Aubrey Rose is by far the most delightful tea house I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing!! Absolutely everything is..in a word..PERFECT! Every little detail is top notch from the personalized Welcome Card on your table, to the fresh flowers on the table and on every serving plate, to the unique way the bill is presented. The food and teas are wonderful, the presentation is unsurpassed, and the service is totally professional and caring. You have to visit the Aubrey Rose to fully be able to appreciate the detail, the artistry, the uniqueness, the warmth, the privacy, and the intimacy of this charming and relaxing tea room. Plus, there are so many lovely items for sale tucked in and around the room. Lorna, the owner, is just adorabe. You can tell from the moment you walk in the door that truly her heart is in everything that she does and hers is definitely a labor of love. It was my friend's birthday and she was presented with a lovely rose corsage as well. On a scale of one to ten, in my opinion, the Aubrey Rose just tipped the scale over on the high end. I can't wait to go back again, and if you enjoy this sort of ritual as an afternoon tea, then call today to make your reservation....you'll be glad you did. Thank you to everyone...you just made my heart happy today.

I have visited them all and The Aubrey Rose is the absolute best in every way. The attention to detail is unsurpassed. The food is delicious, the presentation is gorgeous, the staff is expert, and the tearoom is the most delightful place to be! For a top drawer tea experience, make The Aubrey Rose your next choice.

My husband and I just want to congratulate Lorna and Dave for such a first class tea room. The atmosphere is SO inviting, the food was spectacular...on a par with any hotel I have ever had tea at (and I'm an English girl so I know my teas!) The presentation for Valentine's day was photographic, Thonya our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the teas and food and the owners understand the value of excellent customer service. Next time we are in La Mesa we will be back!! Thank you for a wonderfully romantic tea!
-
Lesley
My friend and I were so disappointed! We had read the reviews and were looking forward to something special. The tearoom is very highly feminine but smelling STRONGLY of garlic. The tea itself was excellent. However, the food was sickly sweet - even a sweet croissant with a chicken salad that tasted sugary. Only a couple of triangular sandwiches - I was looking forward to at least four and perhaps a sausage roll! More traditional fare! Do not go unless you want a nasty sweet taste in the back of your throat all day!

My sister and I are residents of La Mesa, and we often pass by the Aubrey Rose Tea Room as we are walking our dogs. We finally asked if it would be possible to have tea at their outside table so that we could sit with our dogs. They were happy to allow us to do so, and the entire experience was wonderful. The Queen Victoria Tea menu was outstanding, and the service was very pleasant. I highly recommend the Aubrey Rose Tea Room, and if you are like us and enjoy having your small, well-behaved dogs with you, request the outside table. Your dog will love it!

The Aubrey Rose is the best tea room I have ever been to. I have gone to other tea rooms and I always find myself compairing them to The Aubrey Rose. My friends who have come with me find themselves doing the same thing as well. We love love the food and everything about it. We just wish we could go more often. Thank you for always making our experience so wonderful.

I went to this tea parlor for an X-mas tea, with a group of 48 ladies. As always, it is just tops!!!! The service is A-1. The food is wonderful and best of all is the relaxing time away from everyday worries. This parlor is truly the best tea room in San Diego County. This parlor is lovely!

I have had tea in many different places, from London to Victoria and The Aubrey Rose Tea Room surpasses my tea expectations. Your friends and family will thoroughly enjoy the comforting and pleasurable atmosphere, along with the succulent food. If you want to experience tea then you have to go to The Aubrey Rose Tea Room.

While I have enjoyed many tea rooms throughout California, The Aubrey Rose Tea Room remains my favorite!! The service is outstanding, the food is scrumptious, and the environment is enchanting. I look forward to a special afternoon tea with my mom each time I'm in San Diego. Thank you for such a beautiful tea experience!

This is a REALLY delightful tea service... Actually, my husband and I did Afternoon Tea at Aubrey shortly before High Tea at the Ritz (in London) and found Aubrey's to be of similar quality (though, of course, lacking the pomp & circumstance) - Very Delightful!

We celebrated my mother's 72 birthday at The Aubrey Rose Tea Room. We had a wonderful time. The service was outstanding, the other guests were very polite and even volunteered to take our pictures (with our cameras). It is always hard to remember that you have to relax in this environment and not get in a hurry. After we relaxed, we were able to enjoy the beautiful ambience (they have a huuuuuggge collection of beautiful gifts and decorator items).
Lunch arrived and it was beautifully presented. None of us went away hungry. The food was good. We were surprised at the amount of sweets we were served. We didn't even need the fresh scones that were served for dessert with curd, jam and cream. We were also surprised at the variety of savory fare we received.
Thank you Aubrey Rose for the beautiful rose you presented to mother. (It was grown in one of the owners' garden).
You made the day special and we will be back to celebrate another mile stone. Thank you...

I couldn't think of a better place to go for a special occasion or for just lunch. The Princess Sophia menu was extremely small. All I got for the first course was two tiny heart PBJ sandwiches, and a cookie. I'm not a very big eater, but I thought 'I'll still be full'. I had to take some of my sister's food. If you're 5 and under the Princess Sophia meal is perfect for you, but if you're 6 and up you should get an adult meal. Everything else was perfect. You got to try on hats, boas and scarves. I really liked the chocolate vanilla mint tea. It was delicious.

I went to this place last week with one of my friend and we had a such a wonderful tea time for our first time. Because this was our first experience having an English style tea time, we were unsure if there had been certain rules that we had had to know. But a lovely server kindly told us to relax and enjoy their tea so we did. Their tea had amazing flavor and food was excellent. We ere very happy having our very first afternoon tea experience at Aubrey Rose Tea Room. Thank you^^

We held my doughters' Bridesmaid Luncheon at the Aubrey Rose Tea Room. We had a party of fifteen. This afternoon was a complete joy. Lorna dressed each table with rose bouquets from her own garden. The melon soup was to die for, the savories and sweets, teas and scones were superb. The best part is I still close my eyes and see the quests enjoying a wonderfully romantic afternoon. This was a very special day, thank you Lorna.
You tea room is why tea has become an important part of our daily and celebratory lives. Karen Ortman 3/15/07

I look forward to many more visits.

Though we have had tea at many places, there are none that can match the Aubreyrose. We are three retired teachers who love to spend our afternoons enjoying afternoon tea. The owners, staff and the elegance of this tea room is the best we have ever found.

a unhappy customer
We were referred to try this tearoom. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed by the quality of the food and the service. It made us feel we were in a warehouse and afraid we were going to knock things down. Sorry to say we will not be returning to this tearoom again.

This place is amazing- I bring everyone here when we want a beautiful, relaxing, special day. Birthday's retirements, and just because- any reason is a great one to visit The Aubrey Rose!

I was so thrilled with the tea we had today. The whole experience was lovely. The atmosphere felt warm and inviting, yet there was plenty of room to browse the exceptional gift shop. The desserts were yummy especially the bread pudding! I wish the scones had been served prior to the desserts because I did not have room to eat it all. All of the teas tasted so good -- loved the Christmas tea! The sandwiches were fresh (no stale bread). The pricing was affordable, too! I plan on returning very soon.

My family experienced a wonderful and delightful afternoon in this cozy tea room. The service and food was fantastic. The corn bisque soup was the best ever! The owners, servers and the chefs should be commended for the outstanding quality.

My 10-year-old daughter and I enjoyed a delightful afternoon at this deliciously decorated tearoom! The gracious owner, Lorna, and her attentive staff created an elegant tea experience. I'm eager to return for another taste!

My sisters and friends took me there for my birthday and we had a wonderful time. We tried three teas and each one was fantastic, the food was delicious and the ambience was very relaxing. The only thing I was disappointed in is that they forgot about our fresh baked scones at the end and we had to ask for it, other than that it was an enjoyable experience overall.
-

There is not a lovlier way to spend an afternoon than at the Aubrey Rose tea room. I have had tea in London's Savoy and also London's Ritz Hotel; and honestly enjoy the experience more at the Aubrey Rose because of the warm atmosphere and wonderful, friendly service. They encourage relaxing and enjoying the experience and any opportunity I get to visit them I take it!
They have wonderful items for sale and believe me, you want to buy all of it!

My daughter and I just recently had tea at Aubrey Rose. The retail products in the shop made it a bit over crowded...encrouching on chair usage space. The staff seemed to be short...could have used at least one more service staff. Over all I enjoyed this tea room and will return when I am in San Diego visiting.
-

My sister-in-law and I had the pleasure of taking tea here for the first time. The shop is charming, the service is excellent and the food is scrumptious! Their presentation is so lovely, it's just as pleasing to the eye as the food is to the palate. I highly recommend doing the Queen Victoria Tea. It's a little higher priced than the other menus, but well worth it. We tried the AubreyRose special blend tea and really enjoyed it. Thank you AubreyRose for a delightful afternoon!
-
Christy
My sisters & I were there for the Saturday 4:00 pm sitting. We loved the food and service. All the servers wore black with white aprons! We were surprised to hear that our server was on her 3rd day. She was excellent. The only disappointment we had was the scones. We prefer the plain ones so we can enjoy the lemon curd and cream. We found out that we could have requested them before hand. Now we know to ask.

My friend and I treated ourselves to a weekend get away and of course 'Going to Tea'. The Aubrey Rose is beautifully decorated and we enjoyed our table being in a private corner. We were warmly greeted with gracious service and smiles. The Queen Victoria Tea was delicious, beautifully presented in detail, and most filling. Our entire expierence was beyond our expectations. We look forward to our next visit.

I went to this tea room for my first Christmas Tea. I have had many teas here before but this was the first Christmas one I had been to. Everything was perfect! The food, the ambience the staff. I felt like I had melted away into Christmas and I finally got the spirit. Unfortunately I had to leave and face reality. If it hadn't been for having to leave it was perfection!!!!

As a special surprise, my 19-year-old grand niece treated me to the Queen Victoria afternoon tea. We can now share the most beautiful memories of a special time together before she is deployed to Iraq in the National Guard. We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly, charming, gracious service and most delicious food. The choices of tea were outstanding. The best part of all is the attention to every detail by the host and hostesses, and of course the warm, charming decor. Thank you to all who make this tea room a place of the heart.

I have been to this tearoom many times and I must say it's the best!! This is where I really learned to love tea! I feel like family every time I step foot in the door. The owners, Lorna and Dave, are one of a kind and my favorite. Thank you for all the memories: past, present and future.

What a delightful way to reminisce our trip to England 10 years ago. The charming atmosphere and endearing staff brought warmth and laughter from the time we put on our hats and boas to the time we nibbled our final scones. We cannot wait to return with our mothers as we celebrate Mother's Day with them next year.
-
Joanne
After reading all the wonderful reviews about this Tea Room we decided to try it for ourselves. So glad we did! A wonderful variety of teas. You get your own large tea pot full and it sits on a silver candle-lit warmer to keep it hot. The food in the full tea was delicious and they accomodated my nut allergies with fine substitutes. The servers were very professional and gave lots of information since it was our first time. The place was full, but not crowded. There were even a few men there and they seemed to be having a great time! A+ all the way. We will be back the next time we're in San Diego!

I was recently in the San Diego area visiting my friend. We were wanting to enjoy an afternoon tea and she said this tea room was just the perfect place! We had been to tea many times before but this experience was by far one of the best. If in the area, this is a must! We shopped, relaxed and ate! The owner called us by our names as if we were old friends! she was a sweet kindred spirit! I will definitely be back. The attention to detail in every sandwich was amazing! every course was amazingly delicious! Thanks for making our time so special!

A friend took me here for a birthday celebration on Saturday & it was lovely! Even with a full house the service was attentive, unharried & gracious. The fresh mixed berry scones were delicious as was the savory portion of the tea (goat cheese & mushroom turnover & melon soup)! Amazing variety of tea choices & they are listed by type & caffeine content with brief descriptions of each, so this was especially helpful; I chose a white tea infused with rose petals & was very pleased. Enjoy!

A prospective Tearoom owner
What an enchanting experience! This is by far the best Tea Room I have visited in California. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the tantalizing aroma of Tea and freshly baked goods. This is what a tea room should feel, smell and taste like. Highly recommend - hope you all enjoy as much as my friend and I did.

Today was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing afternoon tea's I have engaged in in quite a while. This tea room is every woman's dream of a pleasing, enchanting experience! Many tea's to choose from, delicious cuisine to envelope the palate and one your senses will remember. I recommend this establishment to all whom love the fine womanly things and a relaxing get away with friends, groups or loved-ones. Bon-Appetite!

Our experience with the Aubrey Rose Tea Room was excellent from the beginning. I had to postpone our reservation twice and it was done with a smile and no complaint.
When we finally made it, they welcomed us like royalty, the decor was delightful, the food was excellent and to our delight, they had Rooibos African red bush tea. As fans of Mma Ramotswe, we just had to taste it, and to our delight (that word again) it smelled and tasted just as we thought it would!
Our granddaughters spent a half-hour trying on hats and feather boas and admiring the various dolls and toys scattered around the room.
I highly recommend this tearoom, it beats all the other ones I've experienced in San Diego by a mile.
for an added bonus, The Yellow Book Road bookstore is just across the street.

I have been to every tea room in San Diego, and even quite a few in orange county and riverside. This place was phenominal, even better than places like the Ritz Carlton and 4 Seasons!
My two best friends and I have been going to tea for birthdays and Christmas for over 5 years and this was truly a jewel!
Food was incredible, service attentive and friendly, decor was delightful and charming, a rare find! If you live within driving distance, you must try this place!
