I have been to many Tea Parlors. None compare to The Victorian Lady of Academy Hill. Carol, the owner, creates an atmosphere that is absorbing. Before you know it, you yourself begin to feel gracious and beautiful...just like Carol and the wonderful people with her. Her loose teas are delicious and brewed to piping-hot perfection. All of her foods are very good, but none more so than her scones, made by Vivian her baker, who we sometimes see when she chooses to leave the kitchen. Vivian's sconses are served directly from the oven and are second to none. They are the standard by which every scone should be compared. But what prompted this writing is this. Yesterday was one of Carol's special events where she does things a little differently and yet a little more elaborate. The event was A Sparkling Wedding Tea. Carol was serving a berry Fruit Punch on the sun porch. On a table nearby her two ornate Tea urns held Darjeeling and Royal Wedding teas. Behind them were hat boxes fashioned like wedding cake tiers which added to the gaity of the wedding theme. In addition to the foods Carol typically serves for her Teas, Vivian had baked and decorated for each a white almond wedding cake cupcake with Raspberry filling. We all felt like Brides. What's more, we also were treated to a presentation of vintage wedding gowns fromt the 1890's to the 1960's by Vintage Fashions Collector Patti Peer. What an afternoon!
