English Rose
The English Rose seems to have a wonderful variety of teas and good food, but I am unable to judge, having been informed after driving 25 miles that we would be unable to eat there due to lack of reservations. I was informed that the webpage did suggest making reservations. Upon returning home, I verified that reservations were 'strongly suggested,' but only on the 'contact us' link, not on the main page, menu, or location links. Three different staff members suggested that we move while they moved furniture and spread tablecloths before the fourth asked us if we had reservations and then apologized curtly for our inability to be seated that day. The website/reservation issue aside, I was less than impressed.
Tearoom response:
I was suprised to read your email as I have already corresponded with you on this matter and sent you a complimentary Gift Certificate, value $50.00. As I have already pointed out, today was a very unusual day in Carefree, as, as you will recall it snowed! Unfortunately that meant that any remaining tables that I did have available for 'walk-ins' (no reservation) were taken up by people who had previously reserved seats on the patio...you can imagine they did not want to sit outside today. We even had to improvise by putting a table in my gift shop...the furniture removal that you referred to.
Under normal circumstances, the fact that you did not have a reservation would not have mattered as usually in Carefree it's about 75 degrees and lovely on our patio. So I am sorry that the weather was against us all today, and I know Glendale is quite a drive as my Chef lives there.
Please feel free to come back to the tea room at your leisure and bring the gift certificate I had previously sent you and I would be happy to offer you Afternoon Tea as my guests...the Tea Room is a lovely place for tea and on a nicer day I think you would enjoy it!
