The Lobby Lounge, Ritz-Carlton
The best time to visit the Ritz-Carlton for tea is at Christmas, where the beautiful rooms are truly done up. But what you can feast upon with your eyes will have to make up for what you don't feast upon with your mouth. This is a tea run by a hotel, and it tastes like it. You get four tiny 'sandwiches' that are fresh out of the refrigerator and still chilled. This is followed by an assortment of rather bland pastries, though the scones are very good. The wait staff has to be flagged down for every aspect of service, but the live pianist made the wait worthwhile. Still, you get real china and the teapots sit on small chafing dish-style burners--a nice touch.
