Harney & Sons
Although we thoroughly enjoy stopping at tearooms whenever the opportunity arises, we do not consider ourselves experts. When we came across the Harney & Sons website quite by accident, we decided to take a ride one Monday afternoon in April. It turned out to be one of the best afternoons ever! Millerton itself is a quaint little village where you would never expect to find the quality and variety of shops and activities which are there. What started out to be an hour at most to taste some teas, turned into an entire afternoon. The teahouse is a find! The menu offers a variety of luncheon suggestions which were just different enough to be interesting without being outlandish and a variety to appeal to everyone's liking. We enjoyed two iced tea specials and shared a pot of piping hot Earl Grey served with the best scones we ever recall eating. After lunch, we enjoyed a visit to the giftshop which, again, offered a variety of items including some fantastic books on travel. We topped the afternoon off with a free sampling in the teahouse served by one of the most knowledgeable and pleasant 'bartenders' ever. The walls are full of all types of teas - far too many to list - any of which you are invited to try. After our fantastic day, we walked across the street to a glassblowing factory which encourages visitors to watch the craftsmen at work. What a day. Anyone who is into tea or just wants a low-keyed, enjoyable afternoon should visit this wonderful teahouse. Harney & Sons ships their products and you can see the list of world-reknown restaurants and hotels that serve their teas. We left totally amazed to find such a gem.
