Higinbotham's Bed & Breakfast and Tea Room
My friend and I had a wonderful experience at the Higinbotham's Tea Room! Our gracious hosts welcomed us into their beautiful home. During our leisurely 5 course tea our hosts were attentive to our needs and anxious to please us. A wide variety of tea was available. We each had our own pot of tea which was refreshed as needed to keep it hot. Each course:scones, soup, salad, tea sandwiches and dessert was delicious and beautifully presented. We departed feeling that we had a very special experience and looking forward to a return trip.

Tea On The Tiber
After hearing many glowing reviews of Tea on the Tiber I finally had the opportunity to take tea there. The friendly hostess welcomed us at the door and seated my friend and I on the first floor. The Victorian decor is lovely. After reviewing the tea menu we selected 2 different teas. Each tea was prepared with a tea bag. At no time did our server check on our tea's temperature or offer to bring a hot pot. This was disappointing. Ice tea was available upon request. Our sweets and savorys were presented on a 3 tiered server: A scone, 2 bites of cheese and some fresh fruit for each of us, 3 or 4 finger sandwiches and lastly dessert. The food presentation was lovely. The fresh fruit and cheese with the scones was a pleasant change. We were served approx. 1 Tablespoon of clotted cream, a Tbls of lemon curd and a Tbls of mixed berry jam for the 2 of us. We requested a refill of each and we were too embarrassed to request more. THe finger sandwiches were adequate: a roast beef, the traditional cucumber, and a tomato. Nothing to get excited about ... but they looked pretty. A large slice of cake, a shortbread cookie dipped in chocolate and an unidentifiable tartlet were offered for dessert. I would have preferred less sweets and larger servings of the other items. Visitng this teahouse was a pleasant experience however it did not live up to my expectations. The ambiance was lovely and plesant. THe food presentation was pretty and inviting. Service and attention to our needs wss lacking. I will think twice before making the 1 1/2 hr drive to EllicottCity just to take tea on the Tiber however I may return.
