Marlene's Tea & Cakes
BEST IN SAN DIEGO! This gem is located in the lovely Santa Luz area minutes from 56 freeway. Marlene's Tea & Cakes serves delectable savories, scones and desserts in a perfectly beautiful 3-tier presentation. They serve a variety of loose leaf teas in fine china. The 5 course high tea is $29.95 which includes all house made items such as soup, savories, sandwiches, fruit, scone and desserts. The food is delicious and plentiful and the menu changes monthly. The atmosphere can be casual or dressy, depending on your mood and party. The decor is elegant and modern. Baked goods and beverages are also available in the cafe to go or dine in. There is also plenty of street parking if the lot is full.

Tea Upon Chatsworth
It is a grand compliment to this establishment that I would chose to celebrate my birthday at TUC. My daughter asked if I wanted to try another tea room especially since I didn’t know what to expect with TUC’s Summer Islands Menu. I’m used to the more “traditional” afternoon tea menus. I was in for a delightful surprise. Our server, Anna, was very pleasant and attentive. My daughter and I loved the savories. Her favorite was the green tea and rice cuplet. I found it to be delectable as well. EVERYTHING was so fresh and tasty, which is essential for a tea room. The only thing that was not fresh was the wilted bougainvillea at our table but that didn’t matter since we weren’t planning to eat it. The presentation and artistry was exceptional, as always. The ambrosia cream was good but nothing compares to TUC’s Chatsworth Cream and Rose Petal Jam! My craving for the scones, cream and jam has not subsided. They are the finest ever! Paris tea is my favorite and I find myself always ordering the same thing. We were pleased to find out that all teas are available in decaf (for my daughter). She always orders the Almond Cookie tea. The owner, Joy, greeted us and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. TUC is a charming tea room and still one of my favorites.
