Very elegant, but also very self-impressed and pretentious - and with pretentious pricing to match! The 'sandwiches' are actually canapes. The waitstaff are not friendly. We had to ask for milk with our tea (!) There are other and better options in the metro DC area - choose them.

I have been going to this tea room for more than five years, and have always been pleased with the service, the presentation, the selection, and the price. The servers are most accommodating to children, offering to substitute sandwiches and biscuits to the child's liking. To the comment regarding 'a long time in the kitchen,' I say that the food is always prepared as requested and not in advance, so stale or mushy sandwiches or biscuits are never a problem, nor is oversteeped tea! If you can't afford the trip to Devon but live in or visit the metro DC area, go here!
