Caffe dell'Amore
From the owners of Caffè dell’Amore: It is, of course, distressing to hear someone left our cafe less than completely satisfied. I would like to speak to this guest, to find out what happened, to learn from any mistake made, and to do whatever it takes to make it up to them. However I have been unable to find the guest check with this name and/or fitting this description (with ours being a small space, and both owners always in house, we know every person who walks in the door and every order that leaves the kitchen). I tried calling the only listing in the phone book under this name, but the person stated she had not been in the café. Whether this is an actual review or the result of a continued grudge, I would like the opportunity to clarify a few inaccuracies in the review: A] Our breads and desserts are made fresh at the cafe daily, and we sell enough volume of these to actually be listed as a bakery. The former editor of Gourmet magazine was in the café this week, and raved about the desserts and the overall freshness of our items. As we donate leftovers to the nearby homeless shelter, it is not possible that the bread served would be white around the edges, nor the desserts to be ‘store bought’, let alone cold or hard. B] Our teas, including such leading teas as Margaret’s Hope Darjeeling FTGFOP1 Muscatel and Japanese Gyokuro are the best-not by my opinion but by the tea boards that label them as such. Inferior teas cannot carry the markings that these have. Insult me if you must, but not my teas! Yet despite the higher cost of these teas, we sell them at the comparable market rate of other tea rooms in Naples. We believe in quality, and it is reflected in our menu. C] The interpretation of what is a tea room is relative: We are styled after such tea rooms as Angelina’s in Paris, Demel in Vienna and Florian in Venice, all in operation for about 100 years. Few cafes anywhere list 10 top-quality and rare loose teas on their menu nor have afternoon tea service. The three-course afternoon tea includes items such as dill crepes with salmon and crème fraiche (to best compliment the above referenced Margarets Hope), chicken salad with seasonal fruit in a phyllo cup, earl grey panna cotta, linzer tarts and more, made specifically to bring out the nuances of the teas. We chose our tea as we do our wine, and recommend specific teas to go with items on the menu. If perhaps this reviewer was from out of town, and therefore not listed in Naples, I hope when she visits Naples again she will come in, and give us a chance to make her happy. If instead it is said grudge-bearer, shame on them for ruining the spirit of this site, and the spirit in which the tea experience is shared.
