With Flair Tea Room
I had not been to this tea room for a number of years, but decided to come back for afternoon tea using the Groupon offer. I brought a longtime friend who had never been to tea with me today. Our servers were pleasant and the tea and food were delivered promptly. Unfortunately, I found the food to be of average preparation and of standard assortment. There is nothing wrong with having a standard of egg, chicken, cucumber and pimiento cheese, but if that is what you offer regularly, then I would think you would have the opportunity (and desire)to bring it up several notches in presentation and taste. Especially if you call yourself 'With Flair'! The scone was tasty, of the cakey variety and of good portion, but the devon cream provided was far less than even one person would need for a scone, let alone that of two people. There were two desserts on the tray that were good in flavor, but, they were no more than the size of a quarter. A third 'dessert', presented along side the other 2, was no more than a tiny commercial phyllo tart shell with a dab of plain cream cheese and a grape plopped on top. Not sure how that was even considered a dessert. Even if it was a substitute for some other miniature that they had run out of for the day surely Pamela had a small piece of tea bread or tiny scoops of her peach cobbler (that she has on the menu) to make a real dessert for our tray. I can only wonder if this had anything to do with it being a 'Groupon' tea? I can honestly and confidently say this was in no way a $49 tea service as my Groupon deal indicated. I would say that if you have never been to tea, then do come and try this tea room. It is a lovely setting and the service was pleasant. If, like me, you have been to many tea rooms and feel the food is just as important as the setting, you may want to skip the afternoon tea, save your money and just have lunch.
Tearoom response:
Thank you for writing such an extensive review. We have tried different sandwiches & such on our tea trays, but we always revert back to traditional assortments simple because most guests seem to enjoy them best. Pam

Oh my gosh! Finally a real tea room in Virginia Beach! My friend and I enjoy searching out tea rooms in all the places we visit. We had no idea it was here until we went down Pleasure House Road one day. And much to our pleasure we found Butterfly Garden. It is so pretty with china and fresh flowers. We took our mothers for the Butterfly Tea last Saturday and it was terrific. The food was great and not the same old chicken salad or cucumber sands we find at some places, our tea was brewed perfectly and the scones are to die for! I am going to schedule a holiday tea party for all the ladies in our office in December.

Victorian Station
My friends and I went there early in the summer. We were quite disappointed. The outside of the house looks inviting and the hostess was friendly. The decor was quite sparse. Nothing that would make you think you were in a Victorian Tea Room. We were not given a choice of tea and a pot of Earl Grey was brought to the table. Finally, when we pressed to try another variey we were presented with a variey of tea bags. The food was not very creative or tasty. It was obvious the miniture muffins presented as one of the desserts were from a package. Even dressed up with a sqirt of spray whipped cream they were dry. I'd say that with some expert advice from those in the know about tea and menu planning this could become a good place to visit, but for now it has a long way to go.
