My mother and I go here every year for my birthday. If we lived closer, I'd spend all my time (and money) here! Everyone is so kind and conversational. The setting is elegant and the environment quiet and joyful. The tea is AMAZING! I love the house blends (Hot Cross Buns is a MUST if you haven't tried it) and I always go home with large quantities of it (and a couple of tea cups and tea pots and other tea accessories). The food is perfectly dainty and I look forward to each course. Especially the scones! Its an understatement to say that our visit is the day I look forward to most each year. Wish I were closer to it!

Had my first experience at the Shady Gable, and so enjoyed the atmosphere and the wonderful food and tea.

Had a lovely visit with a good friend here. Enjoyed the Queen's Tea--excellent food, every bite was delicious from the quiche through the taste of sherbet at the end. The tea was delicious with many options to choose from, and I brought home several varieties to enjoy. This is my favorite tea room by far--for the food, tea, ambiance and for the wonderful customer service.

Our party of seven visited the tea room on a Friday afternoon. We had an amazing time! There were over 100 teas to choose from. Some of our favorites were the special, summer love, hazelnut vanilla, and peach cobbler. The perfect amount of food was served, and it was incredible. Our server, Kelsie, was fantastic and very attentive. We highly recommend a visit to the Shoppe at Shady Gables!

The setting is lovely. All components have been thoughtfully appointed and rendered beautifully. The teas were complex, each providing delightful aromas. We were especially delighted to discover a Lapsang Souchong smoky tea. The Queen's Choice provided savory and sweet foods to satisfy every appetite. For an overall unique and authentic experience, Shady Gables is an outstanding destination.

I invited eleven friends to attend a tea party for my sister's birthday. We had the Queen's Tea. Everything was lovely. The staff was courteous and efficient. Our meal was well-prepared and served promptly. Everyone was very happy with the wide selection of tasty treats. The quaint charm of the Victorian house and garden added to the fun atmosphere of the party. This was our second visit to Shady Gables and we'll go again.

I enjoyed a wonderful lunch with two different group of lady friends recently. I always count on great food, tea and and service...not to mention all the wonderful treasures I always find to purchase! The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I brought a friend in a motorized wheelchair. Had to provide a small ramp to get up to the porch, but otherwise, the doorways and seating arrangements worked just fine.

Had the Queen's Tea on our 44th wedding anniversary. Have visited several times and everything was great as usual. Can't believe there isn't anything like this in Kansas City but love the trip and experience. We make it an overnight and stay at the Hilty Inn which is great and just around the corner!

Been going to this place for years and haven't been able to fine another one like it. I have moved and yet still come down for their food and services. Shady Gables is the best relaxing place. You won't be disappointed. Food, tea's and services are wonderful and you should never miss this place.

We went to The Shoppe at Shady Gables Tearoom and we were not disappointed. We were there to celebrate a first time mom to be and she loved it! We had the best time trying different tea's and embraced the different hats we were able to use while we were there. If you live in Mid-Mo you must go here, and even if you don't live in Mid-Mo, find a reason to visit!!!

I've hear about this place a lot but never had a chance to go there. Yesterday, I and my husband went there from Columbia, MO. It took us 1.5 hour to get there, but it was all worth it. Upon arrival, we were astonished by the decor and every little detail this tea room had. Every table was unique with a personal touch. We are seated in a cozy nook, which is sort of a secluded place separated from the rest of the area. We loved it. It seemed like we had a whole place to ourselves. The services was amazing, and tea just exceptional. We loved everything we were served and left really satisfied and happy. A must do! I would totally recommend this place to everyone!!!

I have been to this tea room many times over the last several years. The food is excellent. The service is always friendly and very professional . The decor is very Victorian and authentic . The staff is engaging and very informative . Besides those mentioned what really set them apart from all other tea rooms is their amazing and numerous selections of high quality of teas !! Thank you for shipping me a large selection of my favorite teas and doing so promptly and everything about Shady Gables is a pleasant and fun experience !!!

we had a recent birthday party at Shady Gables! The girls were made to feel very special and all grown up. Besides the normal delicious teas and food, they were treated to a tea pot shaped birthday cake that was both delicious and life like. My daughter expressed this was her favorite birthday ever and couldn't wait to come back again soon and definitely for her birthday next year! Thank you so much for making a 9 yr old young girl very happy on her big day!

This is THE place to go in the Kansas City area if you want a true high tea experience. Everything is wonderful, including the Tearoom itself, the decor, and most importantly the tea they serve. The gift shop is the whole house, displayed beautifully. It is a 2 hour drive from Kansas City and well worth every mile. My husband and I have gone several times and I have taken a girlfriend who loves tea as well. Everytime, it has been beautifully done and delicious. Hats off to the Shady Gables!

Sandy
My sister and I had a wonderful time at the Shady Gables Afternoon Tea. We had the Queen's Tea and the scones were the best we have ever had. We have had high tea in London three times, and this was just as good, if not better, than the teas we had there. The owners were friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back the next time we are in the area.

One of our best decision was to attend this fabulous Tea Room. Having been to many across the country I had high expectations and somewhat reserved what we would experience and I can state that we were very pleased and would highly recommend to all to try Shady Gables . Traditional setting. Food was home made and delicious. Wonderful atmosphere The teas were best I have tried. So many different flavors . Gift shop was full of tea related items and tea pots galore. A truly delightful I me had by all

We heard about this Tearoom from friends and brought a large group of ladies from ages 5 to 80! The staff greeted us at the door and welcomed us into their Victorian home and made us feel not only special but but us feel like we were special and appreciated! The Tearoom was complete filled and bustling with activity but it was quaint, service was devine and the food was plentiful, delicious and the presentation was prefect. The tea was so wonderful, i can certainly see now the differences in tea! They have over a 100 different teas, i have been to many tearooms but none had this much selection, served the meals so special and the food was traditional and yet yummy! The staff was so friendly and professional! My daughters in their 30's loved it and my grand daughters cant wait to return! We loved it and already have scheduled our next visit! The gift shoppe had everything you can need dealing with tea, from tea pots to tea selections packaged to cups and saucers! Prefect setting in a turn of the century Victorian home and located in a older small town that was equally interesting! Thank you Shady Gables!

Had a wonderful stop today at Shady Gables with my my sister. We had the full tea experience! The tea, food and atmosphere were first rate. The customer service was excellent. Also picked up tea to bring home and a Christmas gift. We plan to return in the Spring. The Shady Gables website was very helpful in that I could read about the many variety of teas and the food options available. My favorite was Angels Dream and also liked Ozark Autumn Chai.

The Shoppe at Shady Gables rivals tea rooms across the country. Charming tea room with exquisite choices of tea and wonderful food. I make an annual trip from Minnesota to The Shoppe at Shady Gables - do not miss this lovely and inviting tea room!

The most charming and warm and inviting atmosphere. Excellent selection of teas and outstandingly delicious food.

This was our second trip and won't be our last. The afternoon tea is delightful and there are so many choices of tea. The food is fresh and delicious. The small rooms for tea for two are wonderful and feature things you can buy - from tea pots to paintings. What a treat in Versailles, Mo!

Have enjoyed tea parties with family several times. Very nice place with pretty table settings and fancy finger food.

Once again, Shady Gables has been a pleasant, relaxing experience. I always request the Queen's Lunch as the Chicken Salad Croissant is most delicious. Yesterday, our treats included the delectable Red Velvet Cupcakes with a tasty surprise inside...Mmmmm! I always feel welcome and appreciated here. The staff are all friendly and truly service-oriented, intent on making guests feel welcome. My favorite tea is A Fine Romance as I love Vanilla, but my friends enjoy the fruitier teas-Blueberry, Cranberry, Blue Raspberry, Chocolate-Covered Strawberry. We love sharing and experiencing new flavors each time. Am looking forward to my return, which will be #5 for me!

I just visited Shady Gables for the second time. My first visit was with other mothers (group of 5); this last time I took my 18-year old daughter for some mother/daughter quality time and a college send-off. Great atmosphere and refreshments for either occasion. I plan to make it an annual event and have 'threatened' my son that I may even take him since he couldn't resist my bite-sized leftovers he found in the fridge. That's right, the Queen's Tea is so generous, I couldn't eat it all at one sitting. With so many tea choices, be sure to allow time to study the menu. I hope to return to try at least one tea from each category. Also, take time to browse the tea shop; they offer petite tart servers for sale that I've never found elsewhere.

Yes, men are welcome! My husband and I had the pleasure of enjoying the Queen's Tea. The food was delicious! Plenty to satisfy a man and pretty enough to make both of us feel special. We each had a different pot of tea...our favorite was Italian Ameretto. They sell 100 different flavors. Yes, I came home with plenty for us and some for gifts. The service was warm and welcoming. It was well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. We will go back!!!
-
Tami
Excellent atmosphere and service. A truly relaxing and enjoyable lunchtime experience with a huge variety of teas to choose from. We had the Queen's service which was plenty filling and had a delicious assortment of sandwiches, quiche, fruit, and desserts. Highly recommend, but be sure to make reservations.
-
Becky
First time here, and Wow! I never knew there were so many types of teas. The atmosphere was very welcoming, Terry (owner) was very accommodating, the servers knew what they were doing, and everything together made the afternoon much more enjoyable than I thought it could every be. I will return to The Shoppe at Shady Gables, and plan to take more friends with me! Love this place!
-

Excellent service, delicious teas, sandwiches and desserts!
Comfortable atmosphere with a variety of 'tea house' items to look at and/or buy. Lovely outside garden, too!

I've returned here again and again and this is the tea room of my childhood dreams. I came here with my grandma and mother when I was a little girl and I adored it so much that we came back with my other grandma and on several other visits back to Missouri. I'm all grown up now but it's still one of my fondest memories and hopefully I will be able to visit soon and one day bring my children. The Queens tea will make your day!
-
Tricia Volkert
This is my favorite spot to take friends for an afternoon of visiting and sampling. Their Queen's tea menu has generous amounts of food from the savory to the sweet. There are amazing number of tea varieties to choose from. A beautiful setting with small areas for privacy. Such a treat to share with friends.
-
Marjorie Reed
This was my second visit. It was wonderful on all accounts both times. Food is delicious; tea choice is unbelievable; tea server very knowledgeable. We were able to chat and not feel rushed! It's a quaint, old, beautiful house with so much to look at you couldn't possibly be bored. Make sure you purchase their cookbook--so many delicious recipes to try.
-
Laura
My mother-in law and I went here for my 24th birthday. This was the first time I had ever been here, but she has been several times. This place was so adorable, the tea was fabulous, and the man who owns it is so unbelievably nice! Great first experience and I will definitely be back with more people!

I 've been to Shady Gables many times over the last ten years and have always had a wonderful experience. the food is always delicious, Terry and his staff are professional and friendly and I always leave relaxed and in a better frame of mind. I recently went to a tearoom in Chicago. It left a lot to be desired. I didn't feel the ambience and warm feeling that Shady Gables leaves me with. The price was double, they had very few tea selections and the food was just ok. Shady Gables is a true treasure in the little town of Versailles and I look forward to going there often in the years to come. Thanks, Terry, Bev, Julie and the rest of your staff for the pleasure you provide for so many of us.

Outstanding afternoon tea experience. Owner Terry kindly made accommodation for me on a festival weekend - I was treated to wonderful tea, delicious food, and a lovely atmosphere. I was visiting from Minneapolis, MN and found it worth the trip! Thank you!!

My daughter and I went to Shady Gables for the first time today and I could not be more impressed! They made the day so special for us! Everything was incredible, from the endless selection of teas, to the amazingly accommodating staff! In my 4 year old daughter's words 'this is my perfect place.'
-
Ruth
Shady Gables is the best at everything. Atmosphere with beautiful background music, service with a smile and pleasant conversation, food that is scrumptious, and last but not least the tea. I could go there 100 more times and not run out of selections. My Aunt and I had a wonderful, authentic English teatime experience.
-

I have been to many tearooms in the U.S. and England. Shady Gables is still my all-time favorite. The owner/operator is so friendly and professional. Beautiful decor, wear a hat--it makes it so much fun!!!

My sister, niece and I visited Shady Gables on the 6th of July and must say it was a most relaxing and pleasurable experience Terry was so kind and visited with us several times. His granddaughter was fabulous. Our food was wonderful and our different teas were all so delicious. Our experience left us wanting to return very soon.

Had a most enjoyable time at Shady Gables on Saturday, July 6, 2013. The tea, food and service were excellent. Enjoyed our visit with Terry Silvey. Nice selection of tea, tea accessories, curd and clotted cream. We were three ladies that don't have the opportunity to get together as often as we would like because we come from quite a distance. This could not have been more perfect. We are anxious to visit again.

What a gem in this little town. Great food, tea, & service. I bought their cookbook just because the food was so good! I also took home their Peach-Berry Cobbler black tea (so good). Will go again for sure!

I am from St. Louis, but have lived in CA since 1981. I visit my cousin every Christmas in Sedalia, and we always come to Shady Gables - it's one of my all time favorite places to go, and has been for many years. It's a step back in time... so charming and cozy. The tea, food & service make this a wonderful experience. I always take home tea and a treasure - a gift to myself. See you at Christmas 2013!

Yesterday, my mom, daughter, and 2 nieces visited Shady Gables. It was my first time there, as well as both my nieces. My mom had taken my daughter a few years back. We had a WONDERFUL time! Finding the perfect hat and wearing our 'mink stolls' and everything Shady Gables had to offer! The teas we chose were the Cameo Blush, Wild Blackberry, and Peach Cobbler. They were ALL very good, as was our wonderful lunch of Chicken Salad/Croissant and the scones. The lemon curd was fabulous! We will definitely be back- hoping in the spring! We had so much fun- and all spoke with Britich accents!
-
Debbie
What a wondeful experience..Christmas at Shady Gables! As a sat sipping my favorite tea, Southern Belle, my two granddaughters patiently awaited the arrival of Mrs. Claus. Authentic afternoon tea and the variety of teas offered in this lovely Victorian home is always a delight, but the owner and his staff go out of their way to make Christmas at the tearoom an extra special occasion.

This is my favorite place to take my very best friends.I have taken my granddaughter a couple times, she loves dressing up for tea and is always anxious to go back. Luckily, both my children live in Versailles, and we have just moved there too.Now I can go more often. Wonderful atmosphere, great prentation and variety of food and gifts.

Two of my friends and I went to Shady Gables for Tea and had a wonderful relaxing afternoon. The tea, food, service and atmosphere were all perfect! We had the 'Queen's Choice' luncheon. Everything was delicious! I had the Snowberry Bliss tea and it was delightful! It was a very enjoyable experience. We all scrapbook and took several pictures. The staff was very thoughtful and took pictures of the three of us together. All three of us made purchases from the gift shop. I definately plan on returning for another memorable visit!!
-

Truly enjoyed my visit! What a treasure Versailles has in its community! Loved the ambiance and feeling of being pampered! Thanks for a lovely, elegant lunch.
-
Nora
One of the only AUTHENTIC tearooms around! Lots of places call themselves tearooms, but this is the real deal. The tea is simply the best. So many flavors to choose from you could literally try something different at each visit for years! Very charming setting, peaceful atmosphere, and educated staff!

Each time I have been to Shady Gables it has been a wonderful experience. I love that they renovated this older house rather than being faux old. Having all the smaller rooms or nooks within larger rooms ensures each group whether small or large feels like they are in their own place. The whole leaf tea choices are innumerable, I especially like the custom blends of black and green tea like Angel Dream. The food is always consistently good, whether the savories or the sweets. I have gone to the tea at Buchart Gardens in Victoria, Vancouver BC and this surpasses it.

Five of us had a wonderful experience. We have traveled all over the world and found Shady Gables to be one of THE BEST!!!!
-

This was my first trip to Shady Gables and I fell in love with tea! I was with a larger group (15+) and the staff met our needs well. We tried Apple Spice, Mississippi Mud, Strawberry Shortcake, and Lover's Leap from the multitude of tea choices. The croissant and biscuit offerings were delicious. I loved the lemon curd! We enjoyed trying on hats and the wonderful atmosphere to sit, laugh, and visit. I'm planning a trip to take my daughters and granddaughters back in the summer.
-

I have been visiting Shady Gables for approximately 9 years and have taken many of my friends with me to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of gracious service and excellent food.
I make the trip from Harrisonville, Mo and always enjoy my visit and of course shopping for all those beautiful tea pots. I have aquired many from the tea house for my collection. I have been to several tea houses in and around my hometown but Shady Gables is my absolute favorite.
-
Gina Bowman
I visited Shady Gables Tea Room last summer with a couple girlfriends on our way to the Lake. We had such a wonderful experience having 'afternoon tea' in the most charming surroundings! The tea and food were delicious as well! The management and staff were very gracious. All in all, this was a delightful memory made!
-
Julie
One of the most magical places to spend an afternoon! The tea is excellent, most importantly. Loose leaf, no tea bags!!! The food is amazing. And the atmosphere is like no other eatery. Shady Gables is my number one choice when it comes to special occasions and entertaining quests!
-
Karen
I just visited thie tearoom while on vacation and had a WONDERFUL time! I'm not much of a hot tea drinker, but very much enjoyed my Rhapsody! The decor was magnificent! The food was excellent! Was referred by a friend and i was so very impressed, many call themselves a ' tea room ', but this is the real deal> Finally a authenic english tea room, excellent service, wonderful teas and food and great service and the staff and owner took the time, to share the history of the tea room, the lovely victorian house it's set in, a excelelnt experience. We travelled 125 miles to attend the tea room and worth every mile!
-

I have been to Shady Gables so many times I can't count them all. It is always wonderful. Perfectly brewed tea, gracious service, calm surroundings. Simply a perfect tea experience. One of the most unique tea rooms I have ever been to. They are busy, be sure to make a reservation. It is worth the wait.
-

I have been here three years in a row with my young daughter and my mother-in-law. We always have the Queen's Lunch, which is delicious! The food is so scrumptious and the atmosphere is beyond quaint! I love the gifts for sale also - an easy memento of the day or wonderful gift for someone else! We look forward to this special lunch date every fall.
-

I've been to Shady Gables Tea Room countless times with my Great Grandma and Grandma. Its and event that we can all enjoy together. Three summers ago I decided that I had to show my friends this place and now its a tradition to go every summer. We look foreward to the lunch and love the variety of tea. We try a new tea every time we come. We will deffinately be coming for many years to come!
-
Ginger
So enjoyable. The food is always excellent. And where else can you go in Missouri to get a properly brewed pot of tea! With almost 100 to choose from. I highly recommend this Tea Room. The house and gardens are to die for. Like no other. Truly historical, not an imitation like so many others. Spotlessly clean and refreshingly beautiful.

Recently I took a group of senior ladies to the ever-lovely Shady Gables for an elegant and delicious 'tea'. Though I had been to Shady Gables twice previously (and thoroughly enjoyed both visits), it was their first time there. They enjoyed it immensely and discussed their visit as we journeyed home (an hour-long drive). Christa is a sweet and lovely person and Alex (our server) patiently helped us select our teas from the wide selection. Terry, the owner, was very accomodating and welcoming - he made each of us feel at home. The gift shop is filled with reasonably-priced tea items - from tea cozies to doilies - and there is something for everyone. We enjoyed a splendid time together and want to return sometime soon. Things are often so hectic in life, so if you have a chance, I highly recommend a visit to Shady Gables so you too can enjoy a calm, relaxing 'tea'.
-

I have travelled all over the country looking for those authentic tea rooms and how they present themselves , their service, style, food and the ambience and Shady Gables is in a class of it's own, the house is wonderful, the grounds and garden delightful, terrific service and food and blessed tea, the staff was kind and informative and pleasant and Mr. Terry the Tea Man was charming and delightful, made us feel right at home, keep up the blessed work!

My family and I have been sipping the finest of teas in the serene and comfortable Shady Gables for seveal years now. I have tried some of the other 'tea shops' in Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida to which none can stand up to the warmth that you will feel as you enter Shady Gables. The food is delectable and the service is very professional and friendly at Shady Gables. You are always welcomed when you enter and are made to feel as though you belong, you are not just a customer to this unique tea shoppe, you are now part of the tea family, if only for tea time. My very first time at Shady Gables, I did not like hot tea nor did I think I would like the food seeing as how most of the food was prepared with other foods that I did not like. But I was the first one to finish off my pot of Strawberry Shortcake tea, and ordered another pot, and I believe I was the first person to finish off my food. It was DELICIOUS!!! I am convinced that if anybody experiences this remarkable tea shoppe you will find the same outstanding, serene, cozy, welcoming, beauTEAful tea experience that I have had in the past several years. TeaMap has some ideas of what I should place in this review: The menu has a long descriptive list of loose leaf teas available. The food that is served is wonderful, especially the chicken salad sandwich. After your main course you are delivered a three tiered tray with your finger foods and desserts. These vary sometimes but all have been very tasty!! At last you will receive a small portion of sorbet, again the flavor varies. During your visit to Shady Gables, the atmosphere is a Victorian era decor. Perfect for a tea time!! Also almost every decoration you see is for sale. You will have a spledid time walking around the tea shoppe looking for that special decoration that you just must take home and add to your own decor. Thank you so much Reba and the Shady Gables Tea Family for all the extraordinary tea times that I have had and the ones yet to come.

Renee is either a very sad or very stupid person. I have travelled all over the USA, from Coast to Coast and in my travels, I love to visit tea rooms. It is a wonderful break from the usual fair when travelling. Shady Gables is by far the most lovely tea room I have been to. The food is homemade and delicious. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The TEA is simply the best of all. This tea room is well worth the trip from any where! Make a reservation in advance and savor it. This place is very busy. You may think that, because it is in an out of the way small town, you will be able to just walk in. This is just simply not the case, they are very well known and very busy!!! Keep up the good work, Shady Gables. You are a rare jewel!
-
Renee
I think the cooks and wait staff are quite lovely. I believe some of the reviews must have been completed by friends of the owner. In desparate need of an overhaul on the over saturated decoration. Parts were quite charming others just junky. Food was OK but I felt like Ms Reba was just one big dose of fake; especially when you hear how she speaks to the staff. Get some class please better yet let your employees run the business.
-
Donna
What a treat! Reba and her staff provide excellent service and make you feel special. My birthday celebration Friday with my very dear friend will always be special to me. It was such a wonderful experience. And the very personal Happy Birthday Donna wishes from Reba when we left was very gracious. I would recommend Shady Gables to anyone. The food was excellent and the shopping was so affordable. I can't wait to get the recipe book that I just ordered from Reba.
Thanks again for a wonderful afternoon!!!

Excellent in every way, Celebrating my friend Donna's Birthday at Shady Gables was a wonderful experience for both of us.
We will be back!
Thank you for the impecable service and atmosphere and of course the food.

The teas at Shady Gables are incredible. There's such a variety. I have a few favorites and I highly recommend the Southern Bell. Delicious. Any tea will compliment the tasty chicken salad served with scones, cookies, and finger sandwiches. This tea room is a favorite between my girlfriends and I. We go for special occassions and mostly just to catch up and have some laughs. The servers are adorable and are always willing to join in on conversation. The evironment is a bonus. The walls display local art work and shelves are lined with affordable finds that can turn any average Joe into an avid tea drinker. I look forward to taking my mother and sister to Shady Gables and to my next tea party with the girls. It's such a positive experience.
-

Shady Gables is a great place to go with the girls!!! My sister sister-in-law nieces mom daughter & I go quite often. We always enjoy trying new flavors of tea. I have been to Shady Gables more times then I can count! I love the tea, atmosphere, food, and service. Reba is a delight. They have a new gunpowder soup that is absolutly to die for!! It is always a special treat when I come home from school and my mom and I go to 'the tea room' AKA Shady Gables! Keep up the good work Reba and staff!

The experience at Shady Gables is like no other! They make you feel like a queen. Reba and her staff are simply outstanding when it comes to excellent service with a smile. Whether you've ever been to a tea room or not, you won't be disappointed after you visit Shady Gables.

My favorite tea at Shadey Gables is the Peach Apricot. They have a huge variety and I have had a few of the teas. The food is great, I love how they will prepare food for someone who is diabetic so thet they can enjoy dining there where the atmosphere is calming, a very enjoyable place to go.

This is the 4th year in a row that I have chosen to celebrate my birthday at Shady Gables. It is a treat I look forward to year round! The tea is incredible, the atmosphere is perfect, the food is delicious, and the service outstanding!

My first visit to Shady Gables Tea Room was delightful. They have the largest variey of teas of any tea room that I've visited. The food was very good, the tea assortment was outstanding and the gift shop was excellent. The grounds and setting in an old Victorian type home was just the right touch. Oh, and I loved the many hats and dress-up items that were furnished....perfect! Can't wait to visit on my return to Versailles!

Shady Gables is my favorite place to go! The atmosphere is very relaxing and the food is always outstanding. The selection of teas seems almost endless and I keep a large number of them at home to enjoy whenever I want. A day without Shady Gables tea is like a day without sunshine!

This is the most beautiful Tea Room you will ever venture into! It is a fully restored Victorian,(much of the work done by Hnad by the Lovely owner, Reba). She has it decorated beautifully, and every season is changed to reflect the season's mood. Flowers bloom on the property, and once inside, its a sensory overload of abslolutley beautiful Tea related items. The service is excellent, and the Teas are of the finest quality you will find anywhere. It is a little piece oh Heaven on earth! Do something nice for yourself, and your friends, please don't pass up a Queen's Tea here in the heart of the Ozarks! We love you, Reba!

Tea at the Shoppe at Shady Gables is just as Miss Reba boasts on her website. She treated us like Royalty! We planned an entire day around this little corner of God’s creation and we enjoyed every minute of it. We ate, shopped and enjoyed the lush gardens! Thank you Miss Reba for being the perfect Hostess to my family! Sincerely, Mrs G. Stanford, Kansas City

Excellent tea room. Everyone, especially Reba, is a delight to talk to, the food is great, beautiful decor. My niece had a birthday tea party in February and a couple of her friends came back to Shady Gables for their birthday party.

The shoppe at Shady Gables is a bright beam of light in a world consumed by fast food. There is simply no comparison to the constant care and consideration put forth by each and every member of the Shady Gables family. Each pot of tea carefully made just right, each tray put together with utter artistry, and a guaranteed smile each and every time you step through the door. The absolute serene and surreal atmosphere at the shoppe at Shady Gables is one constant you can always count on especially in these trying times. I'm proud to have such a magical place in my hometown.

An opportunity to 'get-away-from-it-all' and spend an afternoon at The Shady Gables Tearoom is a much treasured bit of respite. One my mother and I looked forward to each and every opportunity we can 'wrestle' away from our hectic schedules.
The custom blended loose-leaf teas and appetizing menu Reba and her staff create are delish and a real treat to experience. They are 'always' polite, courteous and pleased to be as accommodating as possible. During each warm, gracious visit we have actually felt as though we were royalty while having Queen’s Tea. The Shady Gable Tearoom is just one of our favorite destinations. Miss Reba has made every endeavor to create a peaceful, soothing ambience for her guests. We wholeheartedly concur that she has made a “brilliant” go of it. Thank you so much Reba for the many pleasant moments.

As a frequent guest at the shoppe at Shady Gables, I just wanted to say how wonderful this place is. It is always a joy to come and have tea here with my family and friends.
The tea here is outstanding, and the food is soo good! The staff is very polite and well educated on the different types of tea.
Reba and her staff has done such a wonderful job in making Shady Gables such a relaxing and comfortable place. Keep up the good work!

Shady Gables is a great tearoom, and it is always a joy to go. They have over 100 hundred different loose-leaf tea selections and the food was very creative and tasted great. As a 17 year old young man i enjoy the trip to the tea house. My family has enjoyed this tea house for over 5 years. The environment is just as an English tearoom is.

On November 1, I took my 5 year old daughter, Emma, to The Shoppe at Shady Gables Tearoom. When asked what she thought of Shady Gables, Emma replied, 'This is the best restaurant ever!' Thank you to the staff at Shady Gables for making our first 'professional' tea time so special.
Shady Gables has inspired me to purchase a tea set, but I cannot make just any tea in them; the tea has to be the loose leaf tea from Shady Gables. They have a wide variety of teas available. Check out Shady Gables website at www.ShadyGables.com to learn more about the variety of teas they sell.

You won't be disappointed. I had afternoon tea with my husband here in September. He doesn't usually 'do' tea, but it was so relaxing & pleasant,he was sold. I've been to tea in other places in the U.S. and this ranks with one of my best experiences. It was worth the 1 hour drive I made to get there. Thanks for providing a lovely, quiet, modestly elegant venue for a highly affordable price here in Mid-MO.

The Mayor
My take on this location is a bit different than most people here have, first i'm a male and second i'm the Mayor of our community. From my own view, these are the most kind, friendly people you can imagine there, always warm, friendly, willing to assist in any manner, the service is impeccable, the food devine and and i was surprised at the more than ample amount of foods offered, if you leave this establishment not fully nourished it's your own fault, a really wonderful place to come with your lady or spouse, i see why so many ladies and young ladies love the place, they are treated like queen's and all ladies need a special place like that, i would encourage both men and women to attend, relax and be pampered beyond belief, great way for us fellows to earn brownie points! As Mayor of our community, i can't express the hard work and awesome good will Reba and her staff brings to our community and how lucky we are to have her in Versailles. Do yourself a treat , and make a trip to our community and visit this unique business and be spoiled, tell her, the Mayor sent you!!!

This place rocks! We have been going there for several years during the Apple Festival and I am amazed every time I go! Everything from the placement of the merchandise to the set up of the tables is amazing! And the princess room…oh my goodness! I’ve never seen anything cuter! She uses her space well and does it very tastefully. Speaking of tasteful, the food is delectable and the service is excellent! I would definitely recommend this establishment even if it were off your beaten path!

If you have never been to Shady Gables to have tea, then quite simply, your missing out. It is a very charming place, the tea and food is fabulous, and I always come out stuffed. The staff is always polite and go the extra mile to accommodate their customers. I have been to many tearooms, but hands down this one is the best. And yes, they do require reservations (advertised right on the website). The town of Versailles is also charming, with great little places to shop downtown.

I have been lucky enough to be able to go to the Shady Gables three times now and I am already looking forward to going again next year. I would most definitely recommend that anyone and everyone go to shady gables. I am thankful that they do require reservations (as mentioned on their website) because it is a small and cozy place with little room for people to wait around to be seated, along with those that are looking around at the different and wonderfully themed tea rooms. If you ever get a chance to go, please go.

Shady Gables is a wonderful place to visit, which we do every year during the Apple Festival. We only had to go there one time to realize what a special place it is and determine that we wanted to make it a family tradition! The owner and staff are so considerate and pleasant, you feel like you are at an old friend's house who will do whatever it takes to make you feel special. I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Reba's sister to cancer. My sister, who comes to Shady Gables with me each year, is a cancer Survivor. Our family works diligently year round to raise funds for The American Cancer Society, to help find a cure for cancer, so that families do not have to lose their loved ones and can look forward to wonderful times together, such as those that we share at Shady Gables. If you've never been, please go...you won't be disappointed!

Myself and several of the girls from my family have been visiting Shady Gables for 5 or 6 years now. I know that it is one place I can go and NEVER leave disappointed. We have always been given the same high level of service and feel very pampered while we are there. The staff and owner have always been very pleasant. I will continue to visit there until I am too old to get there or they close the doors!!!

I recently went to Canada for vacation and went to Victoria to the Empresses Hotel for high tea. It was wonderful. So fun. However, I couldn't help but think and tell the other people with me how very lucky we are to have all this so close to home in Versailles, MO. Shady Gables is certainly as high standard as The Empress. In fact, the food is actually better and we did not get a choice of tea in Victoria, which I think makes Shady Gables unique. By the way, you would never get in the Empresses without reservations and everyone is always more than kind. Keep up the good work Reba. We love coming over! Linda in Tipton

Visiting tea rooms is my hobby and Shady Gables is my all-time favorite. My only complaint is that it isn't closer to where I live! I have a close friend who lives near Versailles and she and I are planning our third visit to Shady Gables next month. I can hardly wait.
The variety of teas available is unsurpassed and the teapots and tea cozies are always so pretty. It is so relaxing to sit and sip tea with a good friend and enjoy all the dainty food and soak up the Victorian atmosphere. A very memorable experience, and it is what sets Shady Gables apart from the rest. Reba has done a wonderful job and I consider it a blessing to have tea at Shady Gables.

I have always found everyone at Shady Gables to be very gracious and the atmosphere exactly what I would expect from a wonderful lady like Reba. As for Judith Taylor who wrote the food was not in the quantity she had expected, perhaps she should stick to the Ryans and other smorgasboard type eateries where she can consume large quantities of ill prepared food. The tea room is not so much about the food but the ambiance afforded genteel ladies who understand that quantity is definitely not quality. I have had the Queen Tea several times and enjoy the visit with family and friends so much. I did see that a reservation was needed for my tea time also. Perhaps Mrs. Taylor needs to read more and eat less!

Dearest Pat, I don't know you and I don't know Reba. I had the fortune to find out about Shady Gables from a friend. I spent a lovely day today having tea with my mother. I have the ability to read and had made the reservation in advance which was a requirement before arriving to savor the plethora of goodies and the honest generosity of the hostess. I had made a reservation for three and one in my party was unable to attend. I had made the decision to go ahead and pay for the meal even though there were only two of us. Reba told me that she wouldn't hear of it and would only charge us for the two people present and that she was so sorry because two of her employees were out sick with the flu. I have been told on more than one occasion that I indeed am rather snobby and have an air of superiority about me. So I suppose that would make me somewhat an expert on snobbery. None of the people that own or help operate the business would I even consider slightly uppity. You Pat on the other hand have shown your hand of cards. You obviously either don't understand or choose to be ignorant of the fact that empty tables doesn't necessarily mean there were available seats. If you would have just made the required reservation, ones of those little tables could have had your name on it. Also if you would do the research you would find the the 'little spot in road' has quite a history. Furthermore, the correct spelling of 'there' should have been 'their'. I do believe you may need some of those manners classes too! I had an enjoyable time today and plan on going back often to enjoy many more special teas with my family and friends. Reba was the perfect hostess even though she was short two employees and when I looked around everyone else seemed to be in the same frame of mind. Please Pat I sincerely hope that you do not come back and ruin it for the rest of us! Tina Reinkemeyer

I LOVE Shady Gables! I use to go there all the time with friends during high school. Reba is the sweetest lady! I always had her surprise me with a different Tea every visit. She always did a great job at picking a tea I would enjoy. Once she changed her menu for my table because of my food allergies. Not only did she not have to do that, but I don't know of any other place that would. She taught my friends and I the correct way to 'have tea'. I wish I lived closer so I could visit more. I look forward to one day taking my daughter to Shady Gables for her first tea party!

I love Shady Gables! It's definitely my favorite place to eat, and it's very reasonably priced for the amount you are served. I was in ninth grade when I went for the first time with two older friends. All three of us were extremely impressed and had a wonderful time. I made my mom and my cousin go with me several months later, and since then I have brought even more of my friends. It seems that everyone that comes to Shady Gables enjoys themselves immensely. I am a picky eater naturally, but I have never eaten anything there that I didn't think was delicious. Everything is so pretty, and the soft music and Victorian decor always put me in a relaxed mood. There are lots of ladies who love Shady Gables, so you need to make reservations, which you can do on the website or by phone. I always have a wonderful time at Shady Gables, and I'm actually going there again in a week, so I'm really excited!

I have been to Shady Gables on several occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed each visit. The staff, surroundings, teas and food are unequaled in my opinion (which is shared by everyone I have taken with me). Reba and staff have created a restful escape among beautiful Victorian surroundings that makes each trip there something to look forward to and savor while you're there. As for reservations, you do need to call ahead due to limited seating and high demand, which is clearly stated on their website.

I have never in my life been to a place as peaceful, relaxing, and welcoming as Shady Gables. On my very first visit I felt like a queen, and I have felt the same way on the dozens of other visits I have made since then. My daughter (who is almost 10) loves it because there is a room where you can pick out a hat, gloves, or fur capes to wear for tea! Reba is a lovely woman who always has a smile on her face. Kelly, her assistant manager, is just at pleasant, and anyone who has ever waited on me or spoken with me on the phone has been wonderful. The tea is amazing, so much so that I buy it and have to have it at home almost every day! The food is delicious, and yes, it is small, but that is not the reason I go. It is the atmosphere! I totally unwind there. It is almost like a visit to a spa. The only thing missing is a massage! And I have filled an area in my home with 'tea things' that I have purchased at the gift shop. My children and I have tea regularly, all thanks to Shady Gables. Yes, they require reservations, but that is not so unusual if you really think about it. You easily spend 2 hours there, you are NOT rushed and that is why it is relaxing. (When you walk in just because you see empty tables that doesn't mean there aren't reservations made for those tables. And, the way I found out you needed to make a reservation is because I read it on the website!)
I intend to visit and revisit Shady Gables as long as Reba has her doors open! It is my number one place to go. If anyone asks me where would you want to be if you could be anywhere right now I always answer 'The tea room.'

A visit to Shady Gables is always a treat for me. I really enjoy the leisurely pace. We never feel rushed. The selection of teas is amazing. It is brewed loose tea, and it has always been very good, and you may have as much as you wish. The food is attractively served. I was surprised my first visit at how small the food looked, almost too cute to eat, but it was completely satisfying. The servers are very polite and competent. I very much enjoy the Victorian house setting. The rooms are filled with items for sale, but everything is arranged in a very pleasant manner, and it is fun to shop there. There is loose tea in bags and tins to purchase for home use. This is great, and with instructions from the Shady Gables website I now know how to brew tea at home for enjoyment when I am not able to go to the tea room. My favorite food at Shady Gables is the 'wonderful' chicken salad croissant sandwiches!
Both of my married daughters also love to go to Shady Gables, as well as all three of my young granddaughters.

Shady Gables is one of my favorite places in the entire world. The staff always makes it feel like a home away from home and I have always had the most fantastic experiences there. I love to go to tea at Shady Gables and look forward to it for weeks ahead of time. I have taken every friend and even my fiance to tea because I love it so much. Reba is an amazing woman who has created the most incredible atmosphere for an afternoon get-away. I would absolutely highly reccomend Shady Gables to anyone!

I Love Shady Gables! I now live in Springfield, MO and wish I was back in high school, so I could go to tea with my girlfriends and just relax, like we did all the time. I have searched all of Springfield and there is no place like this. This place is the true tearoom that offers elegance, true tea brewing, great customer service, and a perfect and quaint atmosphere. I have never been to England, but in this tea room I feel like I am in a different world. I just want to thank all the ladies and gentleman for giving me the best experience every time I visit.

When I was in High School this was my favorite place to go with my friends! We had so many good memories here and the tea and food was never less than delicious!! I always took out of town family and friends here and everyone always enjoyed their experiences. I've had several events here too like bridal tea and before-prom tea with the girls and it's always been such a great, relaxing time. Reba, the owner, also did catering for my wedding and served many of the items on the menu, all my guests raved!! She added her own little decorating touches as well, and I couldn't have asked for a better reception!!

My young daughters and I have been to Shady Gables several times. We absolutely love the atmosphere and the delicious teas and food. I also love the fact that it is a great place to work with my girls on their manners and acting like 'little ladies'. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Shady Gables is a truly wonderful experience. My daughter took me there on my first visit for my birthday. We had so much fun. It was nice to spend some good quality time together in such a lovely and relaxing place. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. I've been back several times since that day and look forward to many more visits.

I just want to let people know how wonderful Shady Gables is to go and have tea. I have been going to Shady Gables since they opened. I have had EXCELLENT service. The people are very polite and kind. I love the variety of tea that they offer. The food is so delightful.
Even my husband enjoyed going with me.He even got plenty to eat. Shady Gables is a peaceful and very relaxing place. I love the variety of items that Reba has for sale. I just wanted to let Pat know that if she went to Shady Gables website it shows at the top of the webpage that reservations are required.
It's nice to have a tea room that you feel very comfortable to be at. To me it's #1 in my book and in God's.

We drove 70 miles only to be told we needed to have reservations. Rather snobby young lady said she would have to see if we could be seated, when it was obvious there were SEVERAL open tables. No where on the website does it say reservations required, which is amusing because this town is a little spot in the road. Maybe there staff needs a little manners training.

I adore Shady Gables, have visited several times since it has opened. Not only do I enjoy the selections of loose tea and food, along with gracious service, I love shopping there. Just visit my home and with every blink of your eyes you will see something purchased from Shady Gables. Of course I am a TEA person through and through. I visit every tearoom I possibly can in every state I visit, and so far Shady Gables is my favorite. This tearoom has etiquete classes for children, also has contests, drawings, events to keep interest of returning again and again. The atmosphere ia all that you mention and then some!

My Red Hat group has been to Shady Gables twice and we had a great time both times. For the price they have a wide varieies of tea and the food is great. The atmosphere is very comfortable and friendly.

I can say the service has truly been excellent each time I've been there. The owner and staff are very gracious. This makes it harder to write of my disappointment with the rest of my experience.
On our first visit (with a reservation for their most costly version of High Tea) I expected, as advertised, an English style high tea... it wasn't.
The tea itself was somewhat weaker than I expected. In England, scones are plain or made with currents, not all these other fillings. And what was supposedly clotted cream was a whipped butter. Yes, there is a very large difference.
A proper high tea is a stout meal with lots of food, and what we were served was small amounts of very daintily (though very well prepared) cut sandwiches and cakes. It's been over a year since that first time, so I don't remember exactly what was served, but I do remember the keen disappointment we felt about the lack of quantity! My suggestion to the shopkeeper is to offer a more expensive version for hearty appetites, not just the dainty ones for ladies who are watching their weight.
The atmosphere is interesting, though rather overcrowded due to the gift shop motif, with the tables shoehorned in amongst the goods for sale.
Overall, charming, but definitely not an authentic English style tea room.

I have been to The Shoppe at Shady Gables several times, and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere, the food, the friendlness, all are wonderful.
