Today I had the most wonderful tea time with my daughter. We had never been to the Johnston house and absolutely loved it. The food was beautifully presented and the staff was welcoming and nice. No rush, take your time attitude.

The Easter tea that we shared with 7 family members was perfect! Delicious English Breakfast tea, lovely tea sandwiches, scrumptious scones with whipped cream and preserves and chocolate dipped strawberries along with other delectable mini pastries. The atmosphere is bar none superior it was perfect service and the ambience so relaxing and elegant! It was worth the 6 hour drive! Of course we stopped in the gift shop afterwords and indulged in some of their many beautiful items! My Easter egg tree is embellished with large glass eggs which will forever remind me of our special tea. We had plenty of photo opportunities outside in the garden and in the gazebo and the arbor! Bravo to the Johnston teahouse!

This tea house has the best gift shop out of all the tea house I've visited. The tea room itself is bright and sunny. The scones and clotted cream are definitely the best I've ever had. If you are looking for a place with a more antique feel or lots of decor, this is not the place. Also, they don't use loof leaf tea, but a few tea bags are placed on the table.

I had my daughter's baby shower here Aug 15th. We had the larger room with the fire place. The room was absolutely beautiful. The tables were very elegantly set. The food was delicious and the presentations were very classy. The table center pieces were lovely. It may a very relaxing day for my daughter. The attention to detail and the services that are offered by the staff is the best quality. I will recommend this for any special occasions. I can not wait to go back.

My fellow teachers decided upon The Johnston House for a retirement tea for myself and another teacher. What a wonderful celebration it was! The food was not only delicious, but it was beautifully presented. Our table setting was lovely. We spent a long afternoon at The Johnston House eating, chatting, and shopping for treasures in the rooms filled with gifts. It certainly was an elegant way to celebrate my retirement with some dear teacher friends. This was my fourth visit to The Johnston House and you can be sure it won't be my last!

My friend and I recently visited The Johnston House to celebrate her birthday. We were greeted warmly by everyone we met, always a welcome experience. We'd arrived a little early to allow for some time to browse in the gift shop before sitting down to tea. Everything there was absolutely beautiful, room after room of lovely, mostly Victorian, gifts...it was a bit like being transported in time to gentler era. When we were seated, we were in for another wonderful experience. There were at least a dozen teas to choose from, from the exotic to the standard Earl Grey. You could have your tea hot, or iced, or both. The food was absolutely scrumptious. There were cold tea sandwiches, warm bruschetta, savory quiches, puffed pastry filled with chicken salad, light as a feather scones with clotted cream and jam. On top of that, there were huge chocolate-dipped strawberries, frosted blueberry bread and tiny squares of some kind of pastry, filled with apricots, that were out of this world. When I mentioned that we were celebrating my friend's birthday, she was given a strawberry shortcake with a lit candle...what a wonderful surprise that was! Everything about our experience at The Johnston House was more than we could have hoped for, from the warm and friendly service and the wonderful atmosphere to the top-notch kitchen staff. All in all, it was just a truly relaxing and memorable afternoon of the best kind.

The service, food and atmosphere supported all of the good things that we had heard. The guest list had contained a wide age range and all enjoyed themselves very much. It was a real treat. The decor is lovely and the service was adequate, but the tea was such a disappointment. They brought you boiling water to accompany the Stash tea bags on the table! We could not believe that a tea room would not serve a variety of loose tea. It ruined an otherwise nice experience.

My family and I went to the Johnston house to enjoy afternoon tea, and see if it would be a possibility to have my bridal shower there. The food and tea selection were tasty no doubt. The staff, in particular the party coordinator, was quite rude. Not to mention a apparent lack of organization and time management. Unfortunatly their poor attitudes ruined what started out to be a really nice afternoon.

My nieces and I travel from the South Hills of Pgh to the Johnston Tea House every year for their respective birthdays. Consequently, I visit the tea house several times during the year. I have never been disappointed. The girls look forward to our day out all year. We love all the lovely little touches that make having lunch and tea a celebration. We have had tea in Istanbul, Japan, Canada, Disney World, and on cruise ships but nothing can compare to high tea at the Johnston House. This adorably quaint setting offers you a wide variety of delectable teas and gourmet foods. The elegant presentation of three tiers of finger sandwiches and desserts seems almost too beautiful to eat, but are absolutely a delicious delight! The sandwiches are scrumptious, especially their croissants filled with tuna salad, while their light and delicate scones provide the perfect preamble to a variety of heavenly desserts. The setting captures a traditional but warm atmosphere of a classic tea house which is embraced by their consummate staff. We are privileged to have this wonderful establishment in our own backyard.

My sister-in-law and I went to tea and enjoyed the afternoon. My sister-in-law has cancer and we were having tea before she went for one of her radiation treatments. We were leaving and she missed the step going from the tea room to the gift shop, she fell down hard, she feel on her knee and hip, The girl who waited on us came running so do the other ladies having tea. They went and got the owner and she came and asked if she should call 911. My sister-in-law said no she felt she could get up herself she told them she is on her way to the hospital anyway she will get checked. After she got up she was crying about her hip and knee but said she could get to the hospital ok. I hung around to buy somethings and to talk to Teri the owner see I am opening a tea room and asked for some advice. But I was dissapointed because the thing Teri never asked is my sister-in-laws name or phone number so she could call and check on her. She had mine from the reservation, but never called or even offered to give her a gift card to her next tea. I don't do business that way if someone gets hurt you should fill out a report if you don't have one aleast take there information so you can check up on them. Maybe put a strip of different color flooring so someone dont fall again.

As Director of Older Adult Ministries at a church, I took 18 seniors to this tea house this past Friday. The decor of the tea rooms is lovely, light-colored with just enough Victorian touches to be attractive but not cluttered and over baring. The food was very good...we all ended up being were stuffed even though we initially wondered if enough food was offered. Each of us (19) bought something in the delightful attached shop!

This past Saturday we had a gorgeous private room for my sister's bridal tea. The food was excellent and the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The room itself was decorated beautifully and the staff was absolutely wonderful. They are very accommodating and will help with centerpieces as well as favors if need be. I took my mother & sister for tea to celebrate mom's birthday. We all loved it. The rooms were lovely, service was wonderful and the food was elegant and delicious.
We left there feeling very pampered and special. They treated us like we were the only patrons that day. We were not, but we felt like we were!

I chose this tea room to surprise my daughter for her 30th birthday celebration. The personnel at The Johnston House were so very helpful and seem to appreciate how important this event was to us. Everyone was so helpful and kind. They even offered us a larger, beautiful room with a gorgeous decorated mantle to pose for a group photo that they took for us! The only element that was higher than the tea, the decorations, and the service, was the food...delicious!! There were rave reviews from all my guests!!

Unmatched tea experience in our area! Always dependable. Beautiful, relaxing atmosphere (and many rooms to shop in when you're finished); pleasant, pampering service. Tea served is bagged tea (typically Stash brand with few exceptions at special times of year) however, many varieties to choose from. The quality and value of the food is unmatched as far as tea goes. That's what sets The Johnston House apart. Truly a treasured experience every time!

The setting and decor is lovely, the service is superb and the food is elegant and delicious! A magnificent tea experience, done to perfection every time I've attended since first coming 10 years ago. I've been to lovely teas at fine local in various cities (Ritz Carleton, etc.), but this is unparalled! The Johnston house is family owned and operated, and their personalized service, artistry and attention to detail is outstanding. The home furnishings and gift shop is beautiful and always offers items you don't see anywhere else. Making a visit here is an unrivaled treat!

The decor, the service and the atmosphere are the best I have found so far. Very tasteful, no detail left to chance. Even the beautuful bathrooms have scented soaps,hand creams as well as scented candles. The tea selections and food preparation are bar none. They are able to accomodate special dietary requirements such a gluten free foods. The owners go to any length to make sure your experience is a beautiful and peaceful one. The selection of foods is presented on a lovely three tiered serving plate stand. Hot tea and iced teas are available.
It is a wonderful location to host a small get together with friends or a shower with larger numbers of guests.
My only critism is the accoustics in some areas make it hard to hear others at your table if you have a larger group (more than 4). They do have smaller private rooms available for your group so nothing is impossible to accomodate.
Their shop privides a tea enthusiaste with a good hour of browsing and inspiration. They have an eye for classic decor as well as selectons for the more whimsical.
Overall I find visitng the Johnson House an all year round magical experience.

I couldn't have made a better selection than the Johnston House for my daughter's bridal shower. The decor was exquisite, the food superb and the staff top notch. Every detail was handled very smoothly by the staff down to maintaining the surprise for my daughter. I have not been to a prettier, more elegant setting than the Johnston House.

It was my first visit to the Johnston House. I took my mother and niece to celebrate her 9th birthday. Because I do not get to spend much time with my niece I wanted to do something that would be memorable. The service and food were excellent and were only surpassed by the grandeur of it all. My niece said the best present she could have ever received was spending the afternoon with Grammy and me at such a beautiful place. I know she will always remember this special day. It truly was perfect!

My mother and I hosted my sister's baby shower at the Johnson House and had a most wonderful experience! I would recommend this darling tea house for any celebration, special event or just a nice afternoon break.
The Johnson House is absolutely charming in design, with plenty of keepsake items to purchase. It has a lovely atmosphere and a surreal feeling of going back in time.
The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant, attending to every detail.
The best part is that when you leave, you leave feeling really good and somewhat pampered! Even my 11 year old son has requested to return for tea!

I've been enjoying tea at The Johnston House for many years, and after trying several other places, I believe it's the best in western PA. The tables are lavished with bone china and many accessories resembling the finest afternoon teas of England. Their food has been so consistently pleasing that all my guests have been delighted. Service is friendly, prompt, and consistent. My one-word summary is 'wonderful!'

The Johnston House is a very special place! We always go to celebrate birthdays or any other reason just to go! Nothing compares to their atmosphere. Everything little detail is perfect, from the personal tea pot, down to the decorative sugar cube. Delicious little tea sandwiches, breads and desserts are served on a three tier tray. The gift shop is charming and unique, so leave time to shop. I don't know why there are so many negative comments about this wonderful tearoom. It really is a fantastic experience!

I recently had my first experience at the Johnston House and found it to be absolutely delightful. I don't understand the negative reviews people have posted here; the food was all very fresh and delicious, right down to huge strawberries dipped in chocolate and scones that melted in your mouth. We had a good variety of tea right on our table and were able to brew it to taste in cute little teapots. The lady who served us was very helpful, attentive, and forthcoming with information about the food variety. She even brought our check on a little heart-shaped doily! The decor is charming with gifts for purchase everywhere. I have recommended the Johnston house to several people in the few days since we went, and I hope to return next time I'm in town!

I have been to the Teahouse several times - once was my Bridal Shower and it was just perfect... Everytime we have been there - it's been just delightful.. We even started a tradition of us going every year in November to start the Christmas season... It's a wonderful way to relax and get caught up on everything. Highly recommmend to everyone!!!

It's been at least three years since I visited the Johnston House for tea. The server was curteous and helpful, but she didn't show up often enough. Two persons in our party were elderly and the bathroom was way upstairs. But most shocking was the 'hot water' delivered to the table and the presence of tea bags. At least in an expensive tea room the tea should be made with properly boiling water and served at table with a cosy over top.
I have discovered a classier, lovelier tearoom much closer where tea comes to the table made properly in pots, the food is fresh and plentiful and the sisters just charming.

I really do not understand all these negative reviews (all the posted ones, except for one). I have been to The Johnston House with my dear friend Patti a few times when we have come down to Penn. to visit. I remember being treated respectfully and having nice food and a pleasant experience. Our server even cheerfully took our picture so we could have a photo memory. I haven't been in a couple of years, but I really hope the service and the food quality have not gone downhill in that time. We plan on going there again the next time we come to Mars!
