Loved it!!! Nice music, food was great, had the tomato pie, wasn't sure if I wanted to order it, but after speaking with the owner I decided to try it. I am so happy I did it was so tasty. I also had scones, orange cranberry and white chocolate raspberry. Carrot soup and fresh fruits. I can't wait to go back.

the quiche and soup both were was lukewarm. the service was rushed with multiple dishes on the small table at the same time crowding us. the order was also wrong. with the owner absent for the day her replacement was a disappointment

What a great find. I went with friends and we had a great time. We decided to get the whole 9 yards and we each got the royal tea, it was great. We had scones, tea sandwiches, fruit, a slice of spinach & swiss quiche with a side cup of spinach & bean soup on a cute little plate, and sweets with tea, it was so pretty. The tea room was real busy but the service was quick, we did have to wait about 10 minutes for everyone to get there then we ordered, once we did everything came out perfect. Considering that Sherry was the only server we didn't have to wait at all really. Can't wait to go back and have something new, great food want to try everything on the menu.

It's a real treat to break away for lunch to this lovely tea room. I just wish it was closer to my location. The food is always pleasing and creative. You need a little extra time, but if you have it, you won't regret your choice.

This tearoom just gets better and better. It is pretty and charming and full of wonderful things to see. The variety of teas provides something new for each visit. The teas and the lunches are delicious. We loved the quiche, the soup, the salad, the fruit and, of course, the yummy scones. We hope to return soon. It's a favorite place of ours.

I am so glad I found this tea room, I didn't think we had anymore tea rooms in Virginia Beach, but here it is. The scones were so soft and wonderful, I loved the homemade soup, everything was great, and then we had dessert, a warm bread pudding with butter sauce, it was great, we will be back.

I really enjoyed the lunch we had at the English Rose Tea Room. We had a wonderful tomato bisque soup, bean & tomato salad and a hot ham & cheese sandwich, and then to top it off we had a slice of pumpkin cake with a creamy filling, and our tea was a cranberry autumn, we had a great time and can't wait to go back. As always the room was decorated up all in fall colors.

Sharri, greeted us warmly, seated us and gave us the tea menu. She promptly took our tea order and within minutes we were enjoying our 'steeped just right' tea selection. My guest was enjoying her first tea time experience. To add icing to the tea cakes Sharri brought out our tier with wonderfully prepared and presented tea treats. The down pour made our tea time more enjoyable. The English Rose Tea Room is small, cozy and comfortable. My observation is: The is NO bottomless pot of tea. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this tea room.

I have to rate all categories as poor because I have nothing upon which to base my review. We checked the website and called prior to visiting. Neither indicated that the tea room would be closed. We drove out there only to see a sign on the door indicating they would be closed for 4 days! This is not the way to run a small business. That information should have been updated on both the website and the answering machine. We then would not have wasted our time or gasoline driving out there - especially with gasoline prices as high as they are. A total disappointment that we will remember well before we try to visit again.

I took my mother to The English Rose as a belated birthday lunch. The selection of teas was so extensive that it was hard to decide; we chose cranberry orange and fireside chai. The food was excellent. We had the broccoli cheddar soup, chicken salad sandwich, shepard's pie and a cranberry orange scone. We had to try the delicious homemade desserts: bread pudding and pumpkin mousse. The service was attentive and the atmosphere and decor were charming. Shari is a perfect hostess and lends a personal touch to everything. Many of her customers seem to be regulars, which is entirely understandable. I will definitely return and will tell my friends about The English Rose.

My granddaughter (16) and I visited the English Rose Tea Room in early July. She is a vegetarian and I called ahead to make sure there wouldn't be a problem with this. When we got there for our tea, Shari had us all fixed up with a charming table, a delightful selection of teas, and a delicious array of soup and savories. It was very reasonably priced making it an even more enjoyable experience.

This was definitely worth the drive from Richmond to Virginia Beach. Everything was superb - from the moment we entered the tea room to the last taste of the chocolate-dipped strawberry. Sprinkled all around were exquisite items for sale enhancing the décor. We thoroughly enjoyed the many courses served, was amazed at the number of teas offered, and relished the individual attention we received. This a must for all tea lovers.

My husband & I attended a dinner event in mid-July. I knew I would love it,as I've been many times before. Here is the male point of view: he was very impressed (particularly since it's hard to find a place that can prepare rare roast & veggies)w/the preparation, quantity & guality of the dinner and said that the scones were the best he'd ever eaten! For once,he was right!
It was a lovely meal at a electic & elegant establishment--we reccommend it! Richard & Lucille Ballahack

For breakfast lovers, try the breakfast that Shari offers now. Recently nine friends meet at the English Rose for breakfast. Some of us had the King Robert, this was a ham and cheese bread pudding with, some had the Lady Hannah, Quiche pie and other offerings on the menu. It was all super delicious. The numerous choices of teas, it was hard to decide which one. I just asked Shari to surprise me, which I like to do, since I tend to stick with the same few selections and was I ever pleased. It was a very good vanilla tea. After a few sips I was hooked. We all enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere of the tea room and the attention that we got plus the friendship with friends for our first and will not be our last tea breakfast. Try breakfast at The English Rose with Shari, it will be nice morning treat. We will definitely be back. Thank you, Shari, you certainly give a warm welcome to all.

As someone who has lived in England it is nice to have a true English tea house in Virginia Beach. The tea service is authentic and the food is delicious! Not to mention the atmosphere/decoration is perfect. Have visited often and the food, tea, and service are always consistent and have thus referred many people and groups. We all agree this is the best tea house in our area. Shari makes you feel at home while offering a truly delightful experience whether for lunch or one of the high teas. Love the English Rose!

Shari:
I came to a breakfast this past Friday morning with some ladies and it was wonderful. The food and the table and the wonderful teas that you served. I have been to several teas at your tea room and they have all been so wonderful. I certainly will be coming back.

I have been to the English Rose Tea Room on multiple occasions. The first time was with my Red Hat group. We had a delightful time. Since then, I have been with the Red Hat group several times and with a small group of friends several other times. It is small and quaint and just a lovely way to spend an afternoon!
Thanks Shari for opening such a delightful establishment!

The English Rose Tea Room is my favorite place for afternoon tea! Shari is so welcoming and so knowledgable. The large selection of teas make it possible for everyone to find something they like, and the tea sandwiches and treats are fabulous. My mother and I go often, and our 'hat ladies' group) STYLE, had a wonderful time there celebrating the graduation of a young lady from our church. The English Rose is really a treasure.

The English Rose Tea Room is my favorite of the tea restaurants in my area. I can purchase my current favorite of loose teas (Mango Indica) there. They serve loose and bag teas and the tastiest of treats. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, fine for groups (even children) or tea for one or two. I love to go with my 11-year-old granddaughter.

My wife and I have been coming here for quite some time now - it is idyllic for a simple couples get-a-way date or even family event like when all the ladies of our family got together there. The food served is delicious and you certainly get more than your monies worth. The full lunches would satisfy any man and a re very reasonably priced. I cannot leave out the teas - I am a coffee drinker, but their teas are satisfying and delicious. A wonderful place to go and just 'be'. Good work and good luck Shari!

I have been going to this tearoom ever since Shari opened, and I have not found a better place to go have a cuppa. I've found more expensive places, places that others have raved about, and places that are 'the best there is' in the Hampton Roads area on both sides of the tunnel. None of them have come close to Shari's tearoom! Also, I have never felt the need to go out and eat after dining there. The portions are generous, the food homemade (not prepurchased, frozen fare from big club stores), and the atmosphere is always welcoming. I can't think of a single reason to get my tearoom fix anywhere else. Great Job, Shari!

Six of us had an absolutely delightful time at the English Rose. Shari is the perfect hostess, aiming to please each of us without hovering. Delicious food, quaint and pleasant decor, unique items for sale. Truly a hidden treasure in Virginia Beach.

My friend was visiting from out of town, and I wanted some place special and quaint to enjoy each others company. We ordered the 'two for tea' menu, everything was delicious! & It was a hot day out, in spite of that & drinking hot tea, the tea parlour was kept very comfortably cool. Shari was the perfect hostess! Courtious and informative, and made this outing feel like a special occassion. BTW, Scones were so delectable, we had to order some to go, so we could enjoy them again! Thanks so much Shari! I look forward to visiting again!

I just went yesterday with my mother who was brought here recently by a friend. What an awesome experience! The food was delicious and the tea wonderful, Shari was very attentive and friendly. Beyond that the experience was such a wonderful mother/daughter treat. I would definately recommend for friends, family, and husbands looking to do something special for their wives. A wonderful time indeed!

I went to the Christmas Tea on 12/20/09. I was disappointed that I could only order one of the Christmas Teas offered. I can not drink caffinated teas so the selection was not very big. I was also disappointed that the tea was just tea, scones and a desert tray. I have been to tea for two several times and is seems to me that it is not much for the price that I paid and my guest was also not happy with what he recieved. When I do come back to visit it will not be for any event. The Mothers day tea was so much better than the Christmas Tea. I did not even get a chance to order the Sheppards Pie or Bread Pudding. I am sorry to say this trip was the first time I wish I had stayed home

I am the Director of The Virginia Tea Society. A group of seventeen of our members visited the The English Rose Tea Room for a Royal Tea on October 17, 2009. Shari and her staff did a superb job. The food was in abundance and was superb. The ambience and charm of the tea room makes for an excellent backdrop for an extraordinary experience. I highly recommend this tea room to everyone that reads this review.

What a wonderful tea room. The tea choices were expansive and the Tea for Two was perfect for my mothers birthday experience. I'm already daydreaming about who I can bring to this delightful and incredibly afforable place. The location is superb in it is in the middle of Hampton Roads; easy access for a meet up with people coming from Norfolk, Chesapeake or the beach!

While my 93 year old mother was visiting from Richmond, my daughter and I took her out to tea. We very much enjoyed the eclectic decor, friendly staff, and yummy lunch selections (especially the onion soup and chicken salad). Shari and Whitney made us feel quite at home! We will certainly be back! Next time we plan to try one of their homemade desserts rather than the plate of assorted pastries.

I attended tea last Saturday with 12 other Red Haters. We where all treated like Queens. When Shari heard my friend had a food alergies she made her special savories. Even though Shari was by herself the service was great. Thanks for a teriffic afternoon. I'm lookin forward to my next visit.

A most wonderful experience shared with my daughter. We were graciously given an early reservation to the Mother's Day Tea for Two (the first of the day). Everything was perfect, the decor, table settings, service, and menu. Will definitely return.

This was my second time to The English Rose for many reasons: The atmosphere is quaint; the food delicious and 'plenty of it' and the service (from the owner) is warm and personable. I'll be back, can't wait to tell more of my friends. Mom, Katie and I enjoyed our lunch which included salad, fruit, soup, sandwich, scone and a full pot of tea and a chocolate treat. Wow, whatever more could you want??

It's so nice to finally have a tea room that's close to home. The tea was delicious and my lunch was tasty and just the right amount. Shari did a great job with the decor. The fireplace added a warm and friendly atmosphere to the comfortable room.

A sweet little tea room with a well rounded selection of loose and bag teas. The lavender tea I chose was loose and was a subtle but pleasant taste. Raisin scones were served with pumpkin butter, freshly made Devonshire Cream and lemon curd. Cream of potato soup was perfectly seasoned, as was the individual size Florentine quiche. A side salad of mixed greens and blue cheese with just the right vinaigrette dressing as well as an attractive mound of fresh fruit and cream rounded out the Shari's Petite Lunch.

My daughter, my friend and I had the pleasure of having lunch at this charming little tea room on the 11th of November. What a nice bonus for the Kempsville area!! I had the Christmas blend tea (delicious). and the Queen Elizabeth lunch. Very tasty!! I'm looking forward to having the afternoon tea, soon. I will recommend this tea room to my friends.
