Wonderful find in San Francisco with a fantastic tea bar that allows you to smell each tea in small tins. I also loved the touch of small business cards that are printed of each type of unique tea to keep as a remembrance of your tea choice. Nice selection of giftware and good tea sandwiches. Service is the best and they enjoy sharing their love of tea. A wonderful find with a contemporary, urban feel.

If you are looking for super friendly service, a great tea selection and a smile...yes, I said smile,(how novel) this is the place. The food was delicious. We had several of the savory sandwiches which were tasty and satisfying. There was just enough variety to keep it interesting. The blueberry scone could use some recipe perfecting, but the fresh fruit, salad, tasty sandwiches and lemon bars did us in! You couldn't ask for more friendly hosts. I would recommend this little gem for the food as well as the interesting and thoughtful interior design.

I absolutely loved this place. The atmosphere was comfortable, the decor was fantastic, especially the mural on the floor. The SMELL of scones, freshly baked! YUM! But what made it extra special was the wonderful owner William! So gracious and kind. He took the time to talk to us and tell us about his tea house. Will definately go again.

After searching TeaMap.com for recommendations, my family and I visited this gem near the end of our San Francisco vacation. What a treat!! My husband and son were reluctant to spend vacation time having tea with me and my daughter. However, this was not the typical frilly tea room they were expecting. We loved the samples available to see and smell before ordering as well as the cards for each tea indicating ingredients. The teas we chose were all superior. William, the owner, was the perfect host. He was warm and friendly and especially generous to us out-of-towners! We returned home with 2 of our favorites and plan to order more when those run out. The atmosphere is charming. I have not doubt this Tea Bar will continue to be successful for years to come. I know we will make it a stop on any future visit to San Francisco.

What a find! This place has the atmosphere of a cafe, but without the overpowering coffee smell...and so many tea choices! There were so many varieties I almost didn't know where to start, but the proprietor is extremely helpful in finding a blend you like based on your current favorites. He blended a decaf black with an orange flavor for me that turned out fabulously!
I brought my friend who lives out of town, who is both an avid tea drinker and familiar with English teas and services from her semesters in London a couple of years ago. She was very impressed, as was I, and I have visited many tearooms throughout California (many in San Francisco that I have also reviewed). We ordered a tea service for two and picked separate blends of tea. We each had four quarters of sandwich, a salad, fruit, scones with orange marmalade and devonshire cream and cookies, all for $18.95 total. The sandwiches were delicious, we tried four of the six selections: Tomato, Brie and Basil (fantastic!), Ham and Gorgonzola (delectable), Turkey and Swiss (tasty as expected), and Cucumber with Cream Cheese (tried and true favorite). We were told that the honey whole wheat bread and marmalade were made in store and they were wonderful. I'm thinking of returning to purchase the bread alone. We had plain scones with the tea which were very buttery in flavor and on the dry side (great for eating with beverage) and I also bought the apple cinnamon scone and bread pudding to go, both were worth trying.
The interior of the place is so warm and interesting...I really loved the entire experience and I plan to return soon with my normal tea going friends for a break from our usual doilie-tabled tea joints. Leland's atmosphere was very laid back, with many people just enjoying a cup of tea while clicking away on laptops or reading a book. This is definitely the place to go for tea and scones without loud baby showers going on in the background. When you factor in a tea service for you and a friend that costs under $10 per person, I can't recommend it enough!

This gem -- open just a few months -- is off to a roaring start with a 1920s theme, great tea selection, delicious pastries baked in house daily, good prices, and the friendliest service you will find anywhere. On a visit from out of state, we stopped by right at opening time one day and got a tour complete with enthusiastic description of how an artist friend painted the wall panels and table tops to resemble vintage postcards, another friend made the copper leaf-shaped wall sconces, and the co-founder sawed the marble for the bar himself. We came back another day in the afternoon, and the joint was filled with people of all ages and sexes enjoying the cool retro atmosphere, cheery calm, and fresh from the oven apple cinnamon scones that were sooo good! Don't forget to take some of that blend you just savored home with you. If you like, they'll even make customized labels for the tea you buy.

This place has more teas than tea's momma! I'll never go elsewhere to look for tea, bagged or loose-leaf. The interior is very hip but does not have that 'estrogen bomb' feeling that a lot of the lady-centered tea rooms have. The prices are very fair, the service is extremely friendly and accommodating and they'll even let you mix your own recipe from loose leaf and then keep it on file so you can remember what you had the next time you come in. With the tired old glut of coffee shops and diners in the Polk Gulch area, Leland Tea Company is EXACTLY what this neighborhood has needed for a long while!
