Just visited this weekend for a friend's birthday. Sandwiches and tea was delicious but the service was slow. We waited 15 minutes at our table before the waiter showed up

I have been going to the Tea Rose Garden for years and I love it. I have always found the food and service to be excellent. I've taken family and friends and they have all been very pleased with everything. One of my friends has had two birthday parties there and everything has always been wonderful. I really don't know why some of these reviews are so negative. Go and find out for yourself what a beautiful and charming place it is.

First off the name is mis-leading as it is confusing with another tearoom in Pasadena, ie: Rose Tree Cottage, which by all accounts has been around for thirty years. A more original name would have been more impressive.
We walked in with a reservation and there were about four tables occupied and all the others, about five of them, were a mess and not bused. We waited for one of the young gals to drag herself over and tidy up a table for us. Service was completely uninspiring. The entire experience was disappionting. I won't go on but really this tearoom should either stick to flower arranging (the floral bouquet on the table was tasteful and modern)or up their standards and atmosphere. It seems all the tearooms in Pasadena are past their sell by date and need major re-work.
Come on don't settle for less than mediocre, start bringing up your standards!

The ambiance is nice, but I suggest smaller parties so you wont be cramped. They served iced tea first (without asking), which I found to be odd when I was looking for the hot tea. The teapots were basic...nothing nostalgic about them. The waitress was rather inexperienced. Several times she reached clear across to the other side of the table to refill a cup. The food was ok. The scones were good, but you can tell they weren't baked on site. The cucumber in the sandwiches were translucent, which means they were either old or made a few days in advance. I also was not impressed with edible flower bits on my salad, in my iced tea, and on top of the clotted creme. To top it off, the parking is inconvenient. Tea is supposed to be relaxing, but you walk through the door annoyed after searching for a metered parking space or the entrance to the parking structure. There is a very slim chance I will be returning to this location.

It has been about ten years now and the experience is still just as refreshing as the first time I walked in...yes the staff is young but te experience is beautiful...you walk inside and are refreahed by the smell of fresh cut flowers...a center fountain and diplays of tea various tea items you can purchase...I am a faithful customer and look forward to each visit with eager anticipation. It has become a tradition for me and my girlfriends.

I have attended this tea house a dozen times with various friends. We love the tea and sandwich assortments. I agree with others that the service lacks. One girl never smiles but good at service and the young men are not service oriented at all - you do have to flag them for refills. It would be 100% excellent if they served with care and attentiveness.

We go to this place when we are in the mood for 'no frills' tea and lunch. Their scones and cream are very good, but they only offer a generic raspberry jam. The sandwiches are okay, but what I do like is that they give you fruit with your meal. The tea selection is pretty good, and the atmosphere is cozy (it is also a flower shop, I believe). One big downside to the place is that they are sometimes understaffed, so you'll have to flag someone down to get what you need. Also, a lot of the servers are young males who don't know much about the teas, so they can't offer recommendations or describe any of them in particular.

I thought everything was perfect except the sandwiches. It might be just the ones I ordered (smoked salmon, turkey basil, and chicken almond) but the salmon I only had one bite of because it was so overwhelmingly fishy, there was way too much basil, and the chicken was average. Again, though, everything else was just great.

i love this place. i'm a regular. not fancy shmancy, just a good place for a time with the girl (my boyfriend even loves it). not frilly, or fru fru, just good. service at times can be a little slow when it's busy cause it's a small place with not many servers. i still go at least a couple times a month.

I love this place. It's yummy and affordable. The ambiance is wonderful - cute and cozy (not posh and formal). It's been painted and decorated to look like you're outside...with an adorable fountain in the middle, & cobble stone floors. They also have a section out doors for larger groups (showers, etc.) I've taken numerous friends and relatives here for a delightful tea experience.

I have loved this tea room for years and especially enjoy how it does double duty as a florist shop. I have always had attentive and friendly service and find the decor charming, food tasty and the whole experience a breath of fresh air. I will continue to return as long as they are around - it's just a delightful little place to relax

I love this tea room! I think that their chicken almond sandwiches are the best. The restaurant is quaint with a fountain in the center. Call for reservations. What I like is that you can get a tea and customize it to what you like- you can choose from a variety of sandwiches and teas. If you're looking for traditional English tea, this isn't the place, but if you want a Victorian tea experience, the decor is great! They even have a beautiful floral shop inside. The waitresses/waiters can be a bit more friendly, but they are all on the young side.

This place is horrid. The service is rude, inattentive, unaccomodating and the place is dingy & dirty. The cucumbers in the sandwiches taste like they are pickled/fermented and are not fresh or authentic at all. If you want an excellent tea experience go to the T Room in Montrose.

Slow service and and the employees seemed overwhelmed. There was no sign of a traditional English tea experience. I've been here many times before, but this last time was not a good experience. Not sure if there was a change of ownership, but the service was awful, espcecially for the price you pay.

I love this place. Great for get togethers and showers. They have a lovely patio in the back to accomodate larger parties. Very casual, but the service needs improvement. The last 2 times i've been there the service has been poor. But the scones are still awesome and I love the sandwiches!

We had tea today and I was very disappointed. The bread didn't seem fresh and the pastries seemed old. The scones were fabulous. My two friends had upset stomaches after lunch. I was fine. I have had tea here many times in the past and it has always been my favorite place but not anymore.

This is a great place to get together with your girlfriends for tea or an afternoon lunch. This is a very casual teahouse in a lovely setting. Reservations are recommended, however we've always been accomodated with a smile when we've just walked in after a day of shopping. They have a good selection of sandwiches, with the chicken salad and cranberry being our favorite. I also attended a baby shower here, where both the guest of honor and guest were pleased.

I went to the Tea Rose garden for the first time perhaps 8 years ago, and it was really wonderful then. However, in the last year I have experienced a steady decline in quality of food and service.Getting good service is like hitting the lottery. The last time that I was there I was told that the owner, Grace, had turned over the running of the Tea section to someone else - Grace is a talented florist and I am sure very busy...but she should know that how the tea room is run will reflect upon her directly for long term patrons such as myself. She is competing with other tea rooms in Pasadena, like the Scarlett Room...

This is my FAVORITE tea place :) I had my baby shower here and it was the best ! the back patio for private parties is soo sweet ..you feel like you are in someones backyard. The tea sandwiches are DELISH !! the best one is the cranberry chicken...the scones are to die for..they are not your typical hard as a rock scone..ohh no...the choc chip is the best..they bring it you warm..ahh i could go on and on.. I am NEVER dissappointed when i come here. Service can be a little slow but they are always friendly. I highly recomend this place

My experience wasn't horrible, but it wasn't that great either. If you're new to tea, then you will probably be satisfied with this place. The sandwiches were ok. I could make better. The deserts were delicious and the fruit was fresh. The tea however was a dissapointment. It looked like they opened a bag of tea and poured it in the pot, calling it 'loose leaf'. I was spitting out little leaves the whole time. The staff was very friendly and prompt. I got full mostly on the scones, which are tasty and quite large.

This was a highly recommended tea room which was extremely disappointing. Although the tea was good, the owner and staff friendly, the sandwiches were not to my taste. There was no chance to request strictly vegetarian offerings so we were stuck with items we did not eat. The shortbread was made with salted butter which was all I could taste, and the other offering was so sweet it was inedible. However, the scone was enjoyable. I will not return nor will I recommend this tearoom to my friends.

I love this place so much I had my small afternoon wedding there and still hear from friends years later about what a wonderful event it was. They did the flowers which were beautiful and knocked themselves out to make the day as stress free as possible. The orange cranberry scones are to die for.

We have been taking friends to Tea Rose for years. The staff is accurate and friendly, greeting us by name when we arrive. The service is the slow side of leasurely, you do not feel rushed.
They are across the street from the free (90 min) parking garage in Old Town Pasadena, so the location is convenient. Their teas and presentation are very good in a more casual atmosphere than at Chado.
The restaruant is at the front of a popular flower shop. Look forward to lots of interesting things to browse as you talk with friends. Don't take your contractor buddies there like I tried. One wouldn't even go in the door!

Tea Rose Garden has an excellent variety of teas (both black and herbal/fruit blends) and an unpretentious atmosphere. The food is de-lish! I thought scones were basically a 'rock like substance' until I went to this place. And while the presentation isn't elaborate, it is truly lovely. My only complaint is that it isn't an overly comfortable place. Tables would be cramped for any more than 2 people and the chairs seem like a torture device if you want to spend any more than an hour there. I still recommend it, I just hope someone from the shop sees this review and maybe invest in some more comfortable furnishings.

I have been to this tearoom many times before and I didn't think I'd ever be disappointed. But today was that day. I held a bridal shower in the garden area and they had only 1 server for ~20 guests. She did what she could but it didn't meet the 18% gratuity that was added to the bill. It's a nice place for a shower/event but make sure they have enough servers to accomodate your guests.

Just tried this place for the first time today. It was OK, but nothing special. The tea was mediocre and not prepared particularly well. The sandwiches were good, but just average, really. The scones were probably the best part of the whole tea service - some of the best I've had - and HUGE. The atmosphere isn't so great. It feels more like a cheesy snack bar than an elegant tea house. I might be back, but probably not for awhile. There are much better tea houses in Pasadena. Scarlet comes to mind, but it is too pricey for more than a special occasion place and the tea selection there is EXTREMELY lacking. Chado has the best tea of anywhere I've been, but their sweets seem store-bought. Too bad I can't find a place that does it ALL right!
