What a great place to celebrate my birthday. Food was plentiful and beautifully presented. Teas we selected were delicious and the young ladies that served us were very informative and helpful.. I even go a birthday present from them. The shopping was like being turned loose in a candy store. Teapots, teacups, tea, books, spoons, everything tea, everything kitchen and that was just on the first floor. Upstairs was more fun.. Hope I get to return to California again and will plan a trip to Julian Tearoom for sure.

My best friend, my mother, and my best friend's mother visited this charming tea room in Julian today. What a great, relaxing atmosphere for afternoon tea. Several options were offered for both afternoon tea and lunch. Food was presented beautifully and very good tastes. Our dessert was strawberry shortcake was outstanding. We tried three different pots of freshly brewed tea. All excellent. The gift shop was so fun - so many wonderful tea-related goodies to purchase!! We all loved the whole experience. I highly recommend this charming tea room.

This small little home has been made into a wonderful tea house. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They will special order items if you need to. The food changes often and the owner will share her recipes usually. Take a break from shopping in Julian and visit this shop.

Small, cozy teahouse with lots of shopping options. We had a reservation for Afternoon Tea but had to wait 15 minutes for the prior party to leave. While there are hundreds of teas for purchase, the selection of tea on the menu was very limited. Two blacks, two decafs, one each herbal, green, white and red. Tea sandwiches & fruit were served on a large plate (not a tiered tray) and were average. Scones seemed more like biscuits but the homemade lemon curd and apple butter were fabulous. Afternoon Tea includes dessert but we were presented with our check and had to remind our server that we did not receive our dessert. Good thing we did, as the homemade pumpkin bread pudding was the highlight of the tea. The teahouse has been in business for 18 years and I’d think they would have these “kinks” worked out after all this time; perhaps they were just having an off day? When the check is presented each member in your party receives a business card with a loose leaf tea sample attached – a very nice touch.

Every time I've come to the Julian Tea Cottage, I've felt warm and cosy, and coddled. The food is always good and filling, and the tea always tastes good. The tearoom is a pleasure to the eyes too, and I can't leave w/o buying something.

Thank you, Edie, for another enjoyable afternoon tea.

This tea room is delightful. Seating is limited, very important to make a reservation! The selection of tea supplies is extensive. I love to shop here! I live up north so whenever I come down to SD my mother and I always come for tea. I love this little tea room. I came once with a larger group and they were very accommodating to the children we brought with us.

Beautiful tea room. The service was fantastic and the scones, cream, and jam were amazing. I bought the little book with the receipes and they came out awesome. Have been back several times. Whenever we go to San Diego, we make it a point to visit Julian, for the pies and tearoom. The china was beautiful - variety of tea and presentation was supurb. Loved the gift shop.

Lovely service and amazing selection! The tea and food were delicious and artfully presented; the service superb and friendly, the setting relaxing and delightful--but what really blew me away was the amazing shop! Wow! They have absolutely everything imaginable for the tea enthusiast. The merchandise selection just goes on and on and on...I couldn't believe it! Someone really did their homework and there doesn't seem to be a single book, tea accessory, or tea related item that they haven't tracked down for their shop. They have an amazingly quantity and diverse selection of teas, wonderful books, tea decor, tea service and related merchandise--it is astonishing. It is worth the drive. I will definitely go back.

I am one of five in our tea group that travel around southern California one a month indulging ourselves with tea rooms. Julian Tea is the best that we have come across as far as food, selection of teas and of course, goodies to shop for.

I cannont say enough about the staff and how accomodating they were! The food was excellent and not overwelmed with spices (could be a little larger portions).

The drive to Julian was beautiful and the town is well worth exploring. We hope to go back soon as it does tend to get hot in the summer.

My husband and I recently visited Edie's tearoom in Julian because we are off on Mondays from our own tearoom. We had a lovely time. Edie wasn't there; but we were waited on by her lovely hostess. The sandwiches are extremely delicious and tea exceptional! I love the coconut white tea. The retail shope is outstanding with so many beautiful things to choose from. My husband and I loved it. We were able to relax and rest from our own tearoom. Thanks, Sandy, for your wonderful service. We highly recommend a trip to Julian to go to this tearoom! We will return, Edie!

The annual Christmas tea is a delightful experiene at The Cottage: quality service, fantastic food and glorious selections of teas. I visit Julian several times a year and always include The Cottage as my lunch stop for the delicious homemade soups and sandwiches--all named for notable Julian historical figures.

We went for a Christmas Time tea. It was a wonderful cozy setting and the ladies who waited on use where very doting. The food was delicious and the teas impeccable. We have been to many other Tea houses and this was one of our better experiences. We will be coming back for tea and items from the store

I have visited this tea room several times, and I must say I never thought it was bad at all. I loved the pumpkin soup, and the portions are exactly what they should be. Tea isnt ment to fill you up. But then again I'm not a high matinance snob like a lot of 'ladies' that go to tea.

The cottage is quaint and Victorian. However the service was poor. The waitress was a teenager who was not versed in serving tea. The tea was warm, not hot and the bread was stale. I've been going to Julian for over 10 years, it was wonderful in the past but in the last three years it has steadly declined. We will check out other areas such as Alpine for better tea cottages such as Cobblestone cottage and Donna Maria's Tea.

My mother and I went to tea here and I was very disappointed. The service was terribly inattentive, but the girl was, like, 12 years old so what do you expect. I know Julian is a small town, but if you are going to employ children in this type of a business at least teach them how to properly serve tea. And the food was not only un-original but it wasn't tasty either. If you are going to serve the same hum-drum offerings, at least find a decent recipe. And the scones! I don't really remember them because I was busy being apalled at the cool-whip they tried to pass off as a derivitive of devon. Get some half-n-half and whip up some clotted cream . . . cool-whip . . .was that the 12 year olds idea? Trust me ladies, just don't bother.

A friend told us about this place in Julian, said it was wonderful. Here's the real scoop. Although the shop is cozy (small) and quaint and the shop manager pleasant our waitresses demonstrated very poor business etiquette. They were just plain rude. Every time our waitresses would enter the ultra-small room where we were seated they made no attempt to say 'excuse me', 'pardon my interruption' as our group was in the middle of conversation. Service was just God-awful. At one point the waitress was bringing in eating utensils and she just dumped them on the table, PLOP. No attempt was made to give each guest a fork or a spoon; they were just PLOPPED in the middle of group. Tea service was different though. The waitress rattled off (muttered) a few tea names as if it were a major inconvenience for her to repeat. Someone asked for decaf in our party and our dear waitress rolled her eyes to the back of her head (as if to think or to check out that rattling noise) then she schlepped off and returned (no 'excuse me') with the display box of teas. No attempt was made to give each guest a peak at the teas inside the box as the lid was snapped shut. Now for the food category, the food was good, value was poor. $18.50 is what we paid, EACH, for ¼ sandwich, one sliver of kiwi, one sliver of orange, cocktail bread with spread, three grapes, and a teacup of pumpkin soup and tea. I’m sure I have forgotten some other tidbit they may have served but I’m sure it’s not worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things. As a final offering each guest is given a small Ziploc bag of loose tea for brewing at home in hopes that one day you’ll return to the little tea cottage of over priced food and poor service.

I hope you found this review helpful because I really hate writing. I just want you all to know before you go. It’s not a bad place, but you can do better. If you go in with low expectations you won’t be disappointed. Jan 2006.

I have been to the Julian Tea and Cottage Arts 4 or 5 times now. I love their scones. However, teh sandwich offerings use some work (one was cheese on a water cracker-what???). The curried chicken salad is delicious! Dessert offerings are homestyle (a bowl of cobbler or something) and not my favorite. However, try this place during Christmas time for a completely different experience! The food is wonderful and the desserts, chocolates, and petit fours are a nice change. 1 months of the year this place gets a 3 star rating, but at Christmas, it is 5 stars all the way!

The food is delicious and served with a lovely presentation, using flowers and herbs. The retail store is outstanding, with something for everyone. The shop is in a 110 year old house and is decorated beautifully. The staff is friendly and helpful. I do not agree with the other reviews. We will definitely go back.

There was 7 of us who went here on july 22,2005. After we had eaten the people who worked there was complaining about us in front of other customers as they was upset about us not using up the small pitcher of milk But only one of us wanted milk for the tea and in no way use all the milk they had brought to the table.Plus was upset about ice cubes that had melted, we did not ask for any ice cubes. This was my third time there and my last. You do not talk about customers in front of other customers , very rude!!!!!

My sisters and I have just started going to 'teas' and this is our second outing. We choose the 'Snack Tea' and added a salad and opted for a scone instead of the cookies. The scone was really a biscuit, but it was delicious. The lemon curd was to die for. We had excellent service and since it was so hot today, my sisters opted for the iced tea. We had a wonderful time. They also have an excellent selection of teas, china, accessories, and a culinary store upstairs. The house was so quaint. We will definitely return.
