The Strathmore Tea Room, paying homage to hundreds of years of High Tea tradition, serves Afternoon Tea on Tuesday and Wednesday (plus additional Monday’s in December) in the beautiful Shapiro Music in The Mansion at Strathmore. As always, the Strathmore Tea Room is staffed with volunteer musicians, servers, and hosts dedicated to preserving the tradition of tea musicales at Strathmore. The sounds of local musicians performing with a wide range of instruments from the piano to the Celtic harp set an elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere. Patrons enjoy sumptuous finger sandwiches, scones and desserts catered by Ridgewells, and Strathmore's own tea specially blended by John Harney of Salisbury, Connecticut. For a schedule of performers please visit our website!

My parents love being invited to play for the teas here because they get to be a part of the action! The light sandwiches and desserts that are served here are great but the star of the show is the professionalism of the staff and the choice of teas available!

My friend and I attended a lovely tea May 24. The volunteer ladies were delightful and witty. We enjoyed bantering with them! Ridge wells, as usual, had delicious sandwiches, very varied assortment and the mini desserts were out of this world. The specialty tea was outstanding. They offer herbal teas for those who cannot drink caffeine. The ambiance was a gorgeous room, very calming as the volunteer piano player and flutist were wonderful! The tables were beautifully set and the clotted cream and jam was outstanding. Strathmore has a terrific gift shop that sells all kinds of giftware, jewellry and their specialty teas that would make wonderful Christmas gifts. We will be returning in the fall to enjoy their tea again! Nice casual attire and bring a smile!!!!

This place is very elegant and gives you a great look at the Strathmore Manion. I went on one of the history tour dates and learned a lot about the Strathmore. There were even a few people that attended that used to live at the Mansion. There was no selection of tea they just served the signature tea of the Strathmore but that was delicious and I even bought some to take home with me. The food was tasty and I didn't leave hungry. The services was all done by volunters who were very friendly and enjoyed being there.

The staff are volunteers present themselves in a professional manner. They are attentive, gracious and go out of their way to assist. I have taken tea at this establishment at least a dozen times, I have always walked away satisfied with the food and service.
The entertainment is most enjoyable and soothing. Thanks!!!

This is one of my very favorite places to go for tea. It's an experience that's very different from a commercial tea shop: there's the lovely historic house, which usually has an art exhibit on display in other rooms; the beautiful tea room itself; and then there's the musical entertainment (I've especially enjoyed piano and harp programs) -- all of which create a special atmosphere. There's only one seating per day, so lingering and enjoying the total experience are encouraged. There's only one type of tea but it's good quality and constantly refilled by cheerful volunteers in crisp aprons. The food is a set menu -- no choices, no changes -- but there's a good variety of savories, sweets, and scones on the plates. The servers are always delightful to talk to.

the strathmore teas have been an island of tranquility in the midst of the tohoubohou of the highly politicized nations capital. i have attended 3-4 with co workers, my poor demented mother, and alone, and the memory of this return to the placid, elegant days of yesteryear is only heightened by the lovely musicales which have provided a backdrop of elevating music. When i feel stressed at work, only a few miles up the pike, i recreate the peace i felt at Strathmore

The setting is nice and the music is a plus but overall I was disappointed in this tea. I gifted this tea to a good friend and felt it was lacking. It seemed that the tea was served by a group of women voluteers. Which could be nice but they didn't know how to serve and it seemed they could have made the food themselves. It was uninspired and not a special experience.

The room is very attractive and the place-settings very lovely. It was very pleasant to have live piano being played during the tea. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there.....the food was very disappointing, the quality was average at best with the portions being very small. Additionally, they serve only one variety of tea. The cost was $18.75. I would not go back.

I've been to the Strathmore Tea Room several times and all were enjoyable. Live instrumental background music is very nice. 'Storytelling' event was boring and I couldn't wait to leave. I wish they would serve Tea on days other than just Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Reservations fill up quickly and often the only free time is when 'storytelling' or some other entertainment is offered that I have no interest in seeing/hearing. In spite of this, I would still rate them 4 stars.

Went with a group of 10 ladies from my office in spring 2005 and had a nice time. Did not appreciate the lack of tea choices, but otherwise, the food was very good and the pianist was a nice touch. Service was good. Everything (food and tea) seems pre-made/arranged before arrival, but we were not rushed. The gift shop is adorable. Will visit again. Hope hours are extended into the weekend.
