The customer service here is truly atrocious. I reached out to them three times inquiring about scheduling a small (<10 person) event that my aunt and I were trying to host. Once we were able to actually reach them and get a response, with the owner who provided guidance via email and talked us through our options. It was out of budget to get a dedicated room for our small group and we instead just wanted to reserve a table or two. This was three months prior to our intended event. She told us that we could only reserve a table 4 weeks in advance and we had to wait. So, we contacted her again 3 days prior to the 4 week advance deadline to inquire about a large table reservation again. She informed us that there were no reservations available as they were booked solid except for the private room and instead tried to sell us on the room reservation we already said we did not want. We followed her instructions exactly as laid out in the email and she said it was too bad for us and if we wanted to book the private room, we could, if not, we were out of luck. It is a cute place and a fun experience, but do not try to plan an event here and have them respect your needs and wishes as a customer or take accountability when they provide you with inaccurate instructions about how to get what you want as a customer. We felt that the staff we spoke to misrepresented what they were willing and able to accommodate and we felt jerked around by this experience. Go elsewhere for your special occasions.

I love the tea here. I've bought the Royal Wedding blend several times and it's great! They have a nice selection that's very tasty. The location is really nice. The rooms are very ornate and fun to explore. I was last here December 2019, so not sure how it's been since then. But, you can order the tea on their website and it's as good as ever.

Nice ambiance, as far as decorations and display. That’s all I can say about going to the Mad Hatter. Our experience was bad, really bad. We were brought those tea timers that have nothing to do with brewing a good cupa. It’s all about the color of the tea and the proportion of water and tea leaves. Just let it sit till you get the perfect color and flavor to your taste. My “tea” looked like colored water. I had to send my dreadful, unsightly tiny teapot back and order a coffee (it was safer). Somebody in the kitchen had no idea how to make tea. People in general were weird and acted weirdly. Some “mad hatters” were giggling as much as the waiters every time they mentioned the word “tea”. First, it was not tea, afternoon tea, that is. Some were drinking tea and having the typical food served during an afternoon tea, but it was done in the morning! (That's odd). The time was off, the tea was bad, and the giggling was driving me nuts. I belong to the traditional afternoon tea culture (British). We seldom miss an afternoon tea at home. We know what a good cup of tea must taste like, we know how to brew it and serve it (we would never use those silly timers and we feel insulted when offered one). We know how to drink tea as a meal and we do it in a natural way, enjoying the tea and the company. No giggling, no silly hats, no silly timers. Just a good cupa is all you need. A good brewed tea is all we want.

The Mad Hatter is a destination to celebrate and enjoy amazing food and tea.
I would recommend the Earl Grey Cream tea, and the Mad Hatter house blend.
I have enjoyed the Queens tea and my niece enjoyed a Childs tea. The presentation was just beautiful to look at and amazing to taste. The menu service is one of kind and delicious.

We visit The Mad Hatter frequently. Absolutely love the creative tea services, the delicious brunch and the amazing dinners! Menus are seasonal and it is always exciting to see the new creative items on each one. The general atmosphere is so comfortable and the decor elegantly maintained. Be sure to grab a bag of Royal Wedding tea on your way out, so good!

By far one of the best tea experiences I have ever had. The location is like being at a charming southern plantation. The service was attentive but not intrusive. I found the menu so unique and the tea selections AMAZING! I had the french caramel and it was one of the best tea blends I have ever had! The decor is really a delight to the eyes - so elegant and charming with a mix of whimsy! I make a point to bring all my family and friends to this treasure trove! I would suggest a reservation for this amazing and relaxing experience!

Not happy with the service. I felt rushed and the waitress was rude.
Not kid friendly the average age here is 50 plus. We were sat in a loud area by the kitchen. The main room and dining room were taken- so they made a mock back room area. It was loud and it felt forgotten. My roommate posted a review just this morning and it was deleted?

Love, love, love The Mad Hatter Tea Room. The atmosphere is historic and elegant. I love the Divine Temple green tea, but I enjoy the Orange Spice also. All the entrees are delicious. I haven't had anything that I didn't absolutely love. My daughters, and grand daughter try to visit often and bring friends!

We had such a lovely tea at this beautiful tea room. The Mad Hatter was honestly the BEST Tea Room we have been to. We've been to tea all across the country. The service, food, and charming shop were all top notch!

While on vacation, I brought my niece to the 'Mad Hatter Tea Room' so that she was able to experience her first cup of tea before leaving for Ireland to study abroad... We found the restaurant positively charming as well as the food being truly scrumptious. More specifically, we enjoyed our pumpkin spiced tea while having a delightful conversation on top of the fact that our waitress was tentatively accommodating. The atmosphere was beyond cozy... providing us with such a pleasant afternoon. To summarize, hats off to the 'Mad Hatter Tea Room'!

Recently enjoyed Queen's Tea with my Mom and sister. It was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was charming, food was excellent, service was great, and overall a pleasant afternoon. As a former tea room owner, I felt this was the closest experience to my own lovely dream come true. Thank you.

This is one of our favorite places to go for a Mommy/Daughter treat. We brought Grandma along today for her second visit and the Mad Hatter provided yet another Queen of Hearts tea.
We always feel like family when we come to visit and the staff at the Mad Hatter spoil their guests with attentive service, smiles and a genuine interest in providing a top notch experience worth coming back for time and time again.
The tea is always perfectly brewed and the sugar cubes never run out. The scones, soup, sandwiches and dessert are all delicious and we've never felt leaving hungry.

I went to this tea room for a special girls' day with my grandmother and aunt last week. I love tea, but this was my first experience with an actual British-style tea. I absolutely loved the experience! We had the Queen of Hearts tea, and I definitely recommend it. The tea (rose marzipan) was the best I had ever tasted. My aunt and I both bought a bag when we left. We all enjoyed the scones, soup, sandwiches, and especially the desserts! The owner was at a conference the day we were there, but her daughter and the other server were outstanding and extremely attentive, despite the fact that all the other tables were full. My aunt travels frequently and has been to tea rooms in many different states, and she said Mad Hatter is one of the best--if not THE best--she has ever had. We loved it so much that next week when my mom is visiting, she, my grandma, and I will be returning for the Queen of Hearts tea again! Thank you so much for your hospitality! Keep up the great work and don't let negative reviews get you down!

I look forward to each opportunity that I get to visit the Mad Hatter Tearoom. There is alway a decaf tea choice which I greatly appreciate (often a rooibos tea which is my favorite tea choice). The food is very tasty and always artfully served. I especially enjoy their soups in season. I couldn't say enough posative about Liz and the staff. They always treat me like a queen and make me feel welcome. The ladies know I love lemon curd, and always make sure I have a little extra. My special tea spot is the garden room. It's a quiet, cozy, feminine space tucked away off to one side. I visit often and bring friends for birthdays and other special occasions. They are always delighted as I am. I will be back again soon ... as always.

In response to the review by Sharon Kelly. I was a guest at the same time as Ms. Kelly and I saw that situation very differently. It was Ms. Kelly that had an air of superiority about her and she played the part of 'Queen Mother' which happens to some people when they enter a tea room...never could figure that one out. Liz did everything she could to accommodate Ms. Kelly but could not seem to please her. It was SHE that was rude to the staff and owner of the Mad Hatter.
I had an excellent experience at the Mad Hatter and have been going to tea there for many years. This place is jewel in the Northern Suburbs of Minneapolis and is always a wonderful experience. Like no other. I would HIGHLY recommend the Mad Hatter Tea Room in Anoka.

My dear friend Pal Myra and I have a tradition that goes back many, many years. We celebrate our birthday's at the Mad Hatter Tea Room . Were were in last Thursday and treated like royalty! The tea was excellent (and they have decaf woo woo!).The food was awesome. The staff was very friendly and attentive. One of them photographed us in about a dozen pics with different hats on. Treasured memories to put in our scrap books now! This is my favorite tea room for sure. I bring my out of town friends here when they visit and we do some of the special teas here too. They are the BEST, don't bother going anywhere else!

Dear Mad Hatter Tea Room,
Words can not express my appreciation for the lovey time that you created for myself and guests and during our visit last Saturday. The tea was wonderful and the dainty delictable delights were over the moon good. I also have to comment on your lovely daughter, what a delightful lady she is, you must be so proud and I believe your son also checked us out and what a charming young man he is too. With all the hectic things in life, your tea room is a delightsome escape and I have already made arrangements to come back next week with a dear friend. I have told so many people about this treasure!! Also..the scones and cream were lovely!!!! Thank you again for a wonderful and relaxing day.

Wow!! What an amazing experience I had last week at the Mad Hatter. I took my mom who was visiting from Nebraska there with my 7 yr old daughter and we had the time of our lives. The tearoom is such a delight, well appropriated and whimsical. The owner was so gracious and accommodating when I made a request. The food presentation was amazing and delicious. My mom and I frequent tea rooms all over during travels and this has to be one of our favorites by far. It is so nice to be offered a choice of tea, we appreciated the decaf option! We sat in the garden room that had a lovely water fall and was so cute! They also have a delightful larger room it appeared and this sweet 'rabbit hole' for my daughter and I to check out at a future visit. I just had to say THANK YOU for allowing such a special experience and the wonderful memories with my mom and daughter!

after looking forward to taking my granddaughters to the MHTR, I was greatly disapointed. The owner, Liz, was very rude. I made the res.,but when I arrived they did not have it. They scrambled to find us a table. I won't even go into the details.I have posted the story on Yahoo and wrote a letter to our huge Minneapolis paper, that is how unnerving this whole experience was. The service was terrible, I had to chase down a server to get a refill on our lemonade, this is after they said 'oh, just put the pot on the end of the table and we'll refill it', after sitting there for 10 minutes and no server to be found, I had to go looking for service. The owner, Liz, made a phone call in front of myslef and my granddauthers to a party that was supposed to have the same time slot as ours, and in front of us blurts out, 'you'll have to come at 12:30, and when 'THESE PEOPLE are finished you can be served' They stuck us in a small room after they told me I and my grandkids were to sit in the bigger room, the room we were in had a water fall, no music, and Liz, the women who has no class, offered to turn off the water fall as I was about to pay my bill........she is a piece of work. The kicker to this story is, we went to an antique shop near the tea room, and after talking to the owner of the store, she said 'you are not the first one to complain about the tea room, there have been many.' If anoynoe wants to reach me for more accounts of this horrid experience, you have my e-mail. Save your money and time, go to other tea rooms.

My friends and I had tea at the Mad Hatter for my 40th birthday. The staff was absolutely delightful, the food was outstanding, and presentation was more than I could have expected. I would definitely reccommend The Mad Hatter to all of my family and friends, not only for a celebration, but also as a comforting place to relax and be pampered. I'll be back very soon!!

After reading all the excellent reviews of the Mad Hatter, I decided to call with a few questions prior to making reservations. I was very impressed by the selection of loose leaf tea they offered and by the wide variety of food I was told they serve and was becoming quite excited to book tea for a group of my friends. However, being pregnant, there are several dietary restrictions that my doctor has asked that I follow. After I inquired if they would be able to substitute other sandwiches in place of the ones my doctor had asked me to avoid, I was shocked by how rudely I was treated. I was told that there were many pregnant women in the tea room that very day eating the sandwiches I was unable to eat. I was questioned about why I couldn't eat those items if other pregnant women could. And the person I spoke with sounded skeptical that I was actually following medical advice! Regardless of what her personal feelings about my choices are, all she had to do was politely let me know that the tea room was unable to accommodate dietary restrictions and that they hoped I would join them after I could resume my normal diet. Had she done this, I would likely visit this tearoom with my friends after the birth of my child. However, I am so turned off by the rudeness with which I was treated (and my friends were all shocked when I told them what transpired) that we are unlikely to ever patronize this establishment. Fortunately, The Mad Hatter was the only tea room of the many I contacted with such a disrespectful attitude. While the quality of food and a wide tea selection are the most important criteria for us, we will not patronize places that do not treat people with common courtesy and respect.

The Mad Hatter Tea Room is FABULOUS! The food was wonderful and the service was great! The staff was so attentive to our needs and never let our teapot go empty. When we were finished with our lunch we decided to shop a little bit in the gift shop where I found some really unique gifts! I would definitely recommend this Tea Room to my friends!

I have been to the Mad Hatter several times and I have always found it delightful. My only quibble is that I would like whole milk or half & half for my tea instead of what looks like skim, but that is only a minor quibble! Both the chicken and the egg salad sandwiches on the luncheon tea menu are lovely and the tea is always delicious.

I have been to the Mad Hatter many times and have always had a great experience. The food and service are top notch. I bring friends there for special occasions and always try to stop in when I'm in Anoka. It's worth the 20 mile drive!

I was invited to a bridal shower at the Mad Hatter last month. I was so impressed by the food, ambiance, and service that I am thinking about booking a baby shower for my sister. They have a great gift shop too. I ended up buying some of the blackberry tea they were serving, and some cute birthday cards with teabags in them. I would definitely recommend a visit to this lovely place.

A Long Time Tea Lover
I have been to many tearooms in the US and Europe, and the Mad Hatter is truly one of the best I've been to. Their afternoon tea service is beautifully presented and the food is delicious. I would choose them over any tearoom in MN. A must visit!

Friends and I enjoy getting together at the Mad Hatter Tea Room as frequently as possible. It is relaxing and calming...it's our place of choice to sit back, visit and feel pampered. The food is always delicious (my all-time favorite chicken salad), the service is personal and friendly, the music very relaxing. I tell everyone I know about the Mad Hatter and most definitely recommend a visit if you are looking for a break in an otherwise busy, non-stop world. As soon as you sit down and take your fist sip of the delicious tea being served that day, you immediately feel yourself relax and slow down. Kudos to the Hatter!

A New Tea Lover
I recently had lunch at the Mad Hatter for the first time, and I loved every part of it! The menu is very simple, but everything was delicious. They have the best chicken salad recipe. The tearoom was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the soft piano music gave it just the right ambiance. I will definitely return in the future.

The tearoom itself is beautiful, I found the service to be a little cool, sort of stand-offish friendly. There were people of color in our group, we're not sure if this had anything to do with it or not; wondering though. Otherwise, I give it a decor and food a grade A.

what can I say but I LOVE THIS PLACE. When you think 'tea room' this is exactly what comes to mind. I just love the mother daughter here as well, very nice, smiling always a hello. Food and service is top notch. I go alone, with friends and with my 4 yr old who is always very welcome!

Only one kind of tea available at a time. Not steeped at the table so I'm not sure whether they had a vat boiling away in the back. The tea, however, was good enough and served in very nice china. Small tea room with some odd decorations, but nice, cosy, and friendly. The shop is somewhat limited in its selection, but worth a look just the same. Overall I would go again.
