At Sweet Shalom our celebration of afternoon tea is a delightful mix of European and American customs. For fine teas and comestibles, we invite you to join us in our cozy parlours where on Fridays and Saturdays each month there is a new journey into the world of tea, literature, history and culture. As our guests relax and chat our friendly costumed servers present each artfully garnished course on silver trays and antique china. Our homemade dishes are accompanied by freshly brewed premium loose leaf teas. A special program or entertainment is included at each seating.
The tea room began as a dream of long time friends Sara Velasquez and Chris Kruse. Years of raising a family and pursuing busy careers gave both women a need for times of peace and restoration in the midst of a hurried life style. They found their need met when they took the time to enjoy quiet moments over tea. Eventually, they became such tea enthusiasts that the idea of sharing the tea experience with others became a passion. Their hope was to minister to the community, through tea, in this historic treasure of a home. Soon their family members joined in the journey and became partners in the tea business. The main proprietors are now Sara Velasques, Chris Kruse and Ethan Kruse.
They believe afternoon teas reflect a serene and gracious tradition and that taking tea is a comforting ritual, an occasion of good cheer, and a time of sharing special delights. At Sweet Shalom, with a cup of fragrant tea and delectable sweets and savories, made by those who care, you are secure and safe from the hurried pace of the world.
The name “Sweet Shalom Tea Room” was inspired by the biblical word “shalom”. The definition includes peace, harmony, completeness, wholeness, wellness and perfection. We invite you then, to tea, with its promise of hours of good conversation, quiet contentment and shalom.

This tea room is permanently closed. They had an estate sale and closed back in September. I do not think they will be opening their doors again since they sold all their inventory. You can check out other tea rooms in the area.

Lovely victorian tearoom. I visit monthly. The theme changes each month - the food and decor will reflect the theme. Bottomless pots of Harney and Sons tea arrive at your table by the friendly servers. Fresh from the oven scones with spreads arrive first. (Their scones are the best - they offer a class on scone making.) The main course is served next - soup, salad, or other dish appropriate to the monthly theme. A tray or tier of tea treats follow, garnished with fresh flowers. A full size dessert concludes the food service. A program is usually presented, based on the monthly theme. Reservations are required.

Not only is the tea brewed to perfection, the food delicious and plentiful, the decorations beautiful, the servers dress in period costumes, but the whole atmosphere is one of refined elegance. I cannot help but feel the stresses of life simply melt away. I leave feeling refreshed and relaxed.

I visit Sweet Shalom Tea Room every month. Each visit is better than the next. The tea is well brewed, there is a nice selection, the food is made from scratch and delish! This tea room really lives up to its name. Shalom means peace and that is what you will experience there. My husbands enjoys attending with me. The portions are generous and my hubby never leaves hungry.
The decor is amazing and changes every month with the theme. I just attended the Literary Tea and enjoyed a delightful reading done by Sara and even took home a book from the book swap event. What fun!

Ohio - you are in for a treat with this lovely tearoom...this is a 'tearoom' not a restaurant...and if that's what you're looking for, go no farther! The food is made to perfection, artfully displayed and the tea is delicious and hot. We found this 'gem' on our vacation this last Spring...wishing it was not 12 hours from home...just lovely...Thanks Chris and Sarah for making our day beautiful!!

Since we discovered Sweet Shalom last year, we haven't missed one month's themed teas yet and we come from Cleveland! My husabnd and I are avid tea drinkers and we have had afternoon tea across the states, but Sweet Shalom is a true treasure! Everything is always PERFECT! It has turned out to be our favorite tearoom. Chris, Sara and the staff are so cordial, helpful and friendly, they make your teatime expericne very special. Some of the memebrs of our tea group are even now, traveling monthly to savor the sweetness of Sweet Shalom.

Sweet Shalom is one of the best tea rooms that I have been to. The menu of teas and food is fantastic. The service is excellent, and it is traditional high tea. They have discussions in the middle of the service, sometimes about proper tea preparation and other times about a specific theme that they are celebrating. It is a great environment and unlike most high teas, they serve enough food that you could get full without drinking a single sip of tea. You can try as many teas as you are able to drink and they are constantly refilling the pots. I highly recommend this tea room.

After dining at over 15 tea rooms across the country, Sweet Shalom is by far my favorite tea room experience. It truly is an experience, beyond good tea and amazing food. My mother and I make it the place to take friends for special occasions. Even my husband and brother in law enjoy it... food enough for the men!

I am still under the delightful spell of Sweet Shalom. I visited there on Saturday and my experience was unbelievable. My blood pressure must have dropped to zero, I was so relaxed by the time I left for home. The ambiance was peaceful, beautiful and warm.
The theme was Tea with love from Italy, and the foods were gourmet. Fresh, made from scratch in house and delectable. The program was a poetry reading by Sara, who beautifully read love poems. Everyone there seemed to have a delightful time and left with a smile on their face and a satisfied tummy.
I am planning to make a visit each month from now on as a little mini vacation for myself. Every month is different and somehow even better than the last.

This was my very first visit to a tea room and I was pleasantly surprised. I went with my very pregnant daughter in law, her sister and mom. The atmosphere, the tea service, the warm hospitality and the fantastic food made it a memorable event.

This tea room is by far the finest I have ever enjoyed! The loose leaf tea was brewed perfectly,the food was delectable and plentiful and the atmosphere warm and hospitable. I truly felt an incredible sense of peace as I visited with my friends. The servers were dressed in beautiful costumes that related to the theme of the month (Dicken's Olde English Tea) and the brief program of caroling put us all in the holiday spirit. I would highly recommend Sweet Shalom. I'm not sure what Susan was referring to regarding Bananas Foster. To my knowledge it was not even served in December.

The best tearoom in Ohio in my estimation.
It is easy to see that this place was carefully planned and lovingly executed.The teas offered are made right, kept warm, scones are perfect,the food is innovative, served at proper temperatures and everyone involved tries to make your experince the best one ever.
They offer something to suit any type of tearooom visitor and don't go over the edge in decor. It's worth a drive to take tea here and the special events have a menu themed to them. GO!

First let me say that the last review was written by a very rude person. As a tearoom owner myself, I have a problem with people who wait 3 months to write a review and then make remarks that should have been brought to the owners attention not put out on the internet for all to see. They are usually never pleased. While touring a tea room every month I trully hope they pass ours by.
Try to enjoy the great people who pass through your doors and forget about the ones like Susan (who likes your 'Victrian' decor) and her friend!!

While my friend and I enjoyed the food and Victrian decor there last December, we could not say it was the best of our experiences (we are currently touring tea rooms each month). The tea list featured whole leaf teas (a plus!), and we marveled at the three tier selection of savories and sweets. However, a server began a poetry session as waitresses were serving soup--some of us who received the soup felt inclined to stop eating, thus letting it grow cool, while other diners were not served this course until after the readings. The tables are close together, and while we managed to tune other conversations out, it was difficult to ignore the waitress who jammed in between our table and the next; as she was speaking to the other table's occupants, her bum was resting on the edge of our table. There was also an elaborate presentation of Bananas Foster, resulting in much too much food, and again, taking up our personal time to chat. We also felt that we were being rushed to leave. I think the two presentations were at least one too much.Lovely, but too much.

This is one of the most creative, fun and unique tea houses out there! They try and run events that add depth, culture, and a sense of history to their tea house that no others in our area offer! I loved their Dicken's Themed Christmas event and I hope that they do more costumed events in the future! Friendly staff, great tea, awesome location, great experaince! Watch these guys for their events, they are worth attending!

The total tea experience here is a work of art and love. The hospitality is unsurpassed, the food devine and the tea exceptional. There is a wonderful ambiance in the delightfully decorated Victorian farm house.
The presentations are fun and interesting and the costumed servers took us back to a kinder, genter time.
